Short answer: iRobot’s bankruptcy did not shut down Roomba. The company filed for Chapter 11 on December 14, 2025, completed a court-supervised restructuring, and emerged on January 23, 2026, under the ownership of Shenzhen Picea Robotics. iRobot says existing products will continue to receive customer service, applicable software updates, and warranty coverage.
For owners, there is no need to replace a working Roomba solely because of the bankruptcy. The practical risks are longer-term: older models may eventually face limited parts, app, cloud, or repair support.
What happened to iRobot?
iRobot filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on December 14, 2025, under a prepackaged restructuring agreement. The plan was intended to keep the business operating rather than liquidate it. The SEC filing explains the bankruptcy and restructuring terms.
The sequence matters:
- Amazon and iRobot terminated their proposed acquisition in January 2024.
- iRobot later entered a restructuring support agreement with Picea, its secured lender and primary contract manufacturer.
- iRobot filed for Chapter 11 in December 2025.
- Picea acquired 100% of iRobot’s equity.
- iRobot emerged from Chapter 11 on January 23, 2026.
That means headlines saying iRobot “is filing” for bankruptcy are now outdated. The bankruptcy case has concluded, and iRobot continues to operate under new ownership. iRobot’s emergence announcement is available here.

Will an existing Roomba keep working?
Bankruptcy itself does not remotely disable a Roomba. A robot that currently cleans, charges, and connects should continue doing so. iRobot says there are no planned changes to app functionality and that existing products will continue to receive support.
There is an important distinction, however, between basic cleaning and cloud-dependent features. Depending on the model, remote control, schedules, maps, account management, voice assistants, diagnostics, and some smart-home integrations may rely on iRobot’s app or cloud services. iRobot has not announced a shutdown of those services, but no connected-device company can guarantee that every online feature will remain available indefinitely.
Which Roomba app should you use?
Do not automatically download the newest app. iRobot now has two relevant app paths:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Roomba Home: compatible with Roomba 100, 200, Plus 400, and Plus 500 series robots sold after March 2025.
- iRobot Home (Classic): used by other models, including many older 600–900, e, i, s, and j series products.
Compatibility can depend on both the exact series and when the robot was sold. Check the model name and the app currently associated with your robot on iRobot’s app-compatibility page before changing applications. A legacy Roomba should not be assumed to migrate to Roomba Home.
Are Roomba warranties still valid?
iRobot says warranty coverage for current products will continue. That is reassuring, but it is not an unconditional guarantee that every claim will be approved. Coverage still depends on the product, purchase date, location, proof of purchase, warranty terms, and the defect.

If your Roomba is under warranty:
- Save the receipt or order confirmation.
- Record the model and serial number.
- Photograph or document the problem.
- Contact official iRobot support and obtain an RMA or written case record before shipping the robot.
- Keep the defective unit until iRobot confirms what to do with it.
Do not assume a retailer’s return policy, credit-card benefit, or third-party repair service is the same as iRobot’s warranty. Read iRobot’s current company update and the warranty terms that applied to your purchase.
Will customer service and repairs continue?
iRobot says customer support resources remain available. Warranty repairs or replacements are intended to continue where the claim qualifies.

Paid repair availability is less certain. It can vary by model, country, inventory, and the type of failure. A newer robot may be easier to service than an older one, while a third-party technician may be the only practical option for a discontinued model. Third-party repairs can introduce compatibility, safety, performance, and warranty risks.
For a broken Roomba, check the official repair path and parts catalog before deciding whether replacement is cheaper. Do not assume every old model will remain economically repairable.
What about replacement parts and consumables?
iRobot continues to list accessories for current and older product families, including filters, brushes, refill kits, dirt-disposal bags, batteries, and home bases. The official accessories catalog is the best starting point.

- UP TO 75 DAYS HANDS-FREE CLEANING. Dirt and dust stay gone because it empties into the AutoEmpty dock with a bag that traps 99% of allergens as small as 0.7 microns- That means no mess or cloud of dust when you empty it- Just drop the used bag into the trash and put a new one in the base.
- DEVOURS DIRT WITH 70X MORE POWER-LIFTING SUCTION. 3-Stage Cleaning includes 70X more power-lifting suction*, a Multi-Surface brush, and Edge-Sweeping brush to devour dirt and dust bunnies and leave floors barefoot clean *As compared to Roomba 600 series robots
- SUPER-SMART MAPPING AND NAVIGATION. ClearView LiDAR quickly maps your home to maximize coverage and provide a precise clean while steering smoothly around obstacles and specialized sensors prevent falling down stairs.
- FULLY CUSTOM & TARGETED CLEANING. Schedule and target rooms based on your daily routine and adjust the number of cleaning passes and levels of suction power.
- EASY-TO-USE ROOMBA HOME APP. Simply tap to set a custom clean, get time estimates, check on the filter life, or create keep-out zones to avoid specific areas.
Consumables are generally the lower-risk purchases. Filters, bags, brushes, and cleaning supplies are often easier to source than proprietary docks, navigation components, batteries, or electronic boards. A product listing also does not guarantee that the item is currently in stock.

For example, iRobot has listed legacy-compatible Home Bases, but availability can change; one U.S. listing showed a replacement base unavailable when checked. Unverified batteries from unknown sellers deserve particular caution because incorrect or poor-quality lithium-ion batteries can create safety and performance problems.
Third-party parts may cost less, but verify fit, filtration, battery specifications, and seller quality. If your Roomba is working well, buying a reasonable supply of ordinary consumables is sensible. Panic-buying expensive proprietary parts is not.
Will software updates continue?
iRobot says it plans to continue software updates where applicable. That wording matters. It does not promise new features, equal update frequency, security updates, third-party integration support, or indefinite compatibility with every older model.
Install available updates while your model is supported, but review release notes and privacy settings before accepting major app or firmware changes. Keep your account credentials and Wi-Fi information available, and test scheduling, mapping, remote control, and charging after an update.

- SMARTER NAVIGATION, FEWER WORRIES. ClearView Pro LiDAR maps your home precisely and cleans efficiently day or night, while built‑in cliff sensors help prevent falls near stairs and ledges.
Is Roomba owner data safe after the ownership change?
iRobot says there are no planned changes affecting data security and remains committed to protecting customer information. That statement does not establish that data has been misused, exposed, or redirected to another country. Ownership by a Shenzhen-based company, by itself, is not evidence of any such event.
It also cannot guarantee that privacy policies, app permissions, cloud architecture, or data practices will never change. The sensible response is a routine privacy review, not panic:
- Read the current iRobot company update and applicable privacy policy.
- Use a unique account password and enable available security controls.
- Remove old users, homes, and connected services.
- Disable integrations and permissions you do not need.
- If selling the robot, remove it from your account and follow the manufacturer’s reset procedure.
- Keep the account until warranty, order, and support records are no longer needed.
What happens to current orders, subscriptions, and trade-ins?
iRobot says current orders are expected to be delivered. Save order confirmations and review the terms that applied when you bought the product.
Subscriptions, financing agreements, extended warranties, and membership products may have separate contractual terms. A retailer’s return policy is also different from the manufacturer’s warranty.

Should you keep, repair, sell, or replace your Roomba?
| Your situation | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| The robot works reliably and the app connects | Keep using it. No immediate action is required. |
| It is under warranty | Document the issue and open an official support case before attempting repair. |
| It needs filters, bags, or brushes | Buy compatible consumables from official or reputable sellers. |
| The battery, dock, or navigation system is failing | Compare official parts and repair costs with the price of a new robot. |
| The model depends on an obsolete app or connectivity standard | Replacement may make financial sense even if the vacuum still runs. |
| You are considering selling solely because of the bankruptcy | There is no evidence that immediate sale is necessary. |
A change in ownership alone is a poor reason to sell a working Roomba at a discount. Replace it when repair costs approach the price of a newer model, parts are unavailable, connectivity is becoming impractical, or you specifically want newer navigation, mopping, automation, warranty coverage, or app support.
If you sell, disclose the exact model, included dock, battery condition, app compatibility, and whether the device has been removed from your account.
Is it safe to buy a Roomba now?
Buying a Roomba can still make sense, but buy for the product—not because a bankruptcy headline creates artificial urgency. iRobot continues to sell current models directly. U.S. direct-store prices observed in 2026 ranged from about $199.99 for a basic Roomba 105 Combo Robot to about $1,299.99 for a Roomba Max 705 Combo with AutoWash Dock. These are time-sensitive listings, not permanent prices; promotions, stock, taxes, shipping, and retailer prices vary. Check current products here.
Before purchasing, verify:
- Which app the exact model uses.
- Whether filters, bags, batteries, and dock components are available.
- The warranty and return policy for the seller.
- The total ownership cost, including consumables and cleaning solution.
- Whether the robot’s cloud-dependent features match your privacy and reliability expectations.
Newer models are the better choice for buyers who want the longest probable software and parts runway. Clearance or discontinued models may be cheaper, but they carry greater long-term app and repair risk.
What Roomba owners should do now
- Identify the exact model and serial number.
- Confirm whether it uses Roomba Home or iRobot Home (Classic).
- Save purchase, warranty, and support records.
- Test charging, mapping, scheduling, remote control, and integrations.
- Review account security and privacy settings.
- Replace ordinary consumables when needed, without panic-buying.
- Open an official support case before extensive third-party repair.
- If shopping for a replacement, compare the full ownership cost rather than only the sticker price.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: iRobot’s bankruptcy became a completed restructuring, not a Roomba shutdown. A working robot does not need to be replaced immediately, and iRobot says app functionality, customer service, applicable software updates, and warranty coverage will continue. The main financial risk is longer-term uncertainty—especially for legacy models, proprietary parts, and cloud-dependent features—so keep records, verify app compatibility, and replace only when your Roomba’s condition or support costs justify it.
