InScope raised a $14.5 million Series A announced on February 20, 2026, to automate repetitive financial-reporting work that still often moves through spreadsheets, Word documents, email, and manual review. The San Francisco startup, founded by accounting practitioners, is building an AI-assisted layer for drafting and reviewing financial statements—not a fully autonomous replacement for controllers, accountants, or auditors.
What InScope raised
Norwest led InScope’s Series A. Storm Ventures and existing investors Better Tomorrow Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners also participated, according to TechCrunch.
The company was founded in 2023 by Mary Antony, Kelsey Gootnick, and Jared Tibshraeny. The available financing coverage does not provide a detailed allocation of the new capital, so it would be premature to say the money is specifically earmarked for hiring, international expansion, sales, or product development.
Better Tomorrow Ventures and Lightspeed were already backers. A precise lifetime funding total is not necessary to understand this round and should not be inferred from unverified third-party database figures.

The reporting problem InScope is targeting
Financial reporting begins with accounting data, but producing a finished set of statements involves much more than exporting numbers from an ERP. A typical process may involve:
- Closing the books in an accounting or enterprise-resource-planning system.
- Assembling financial statements, schedules, and notes.
- Copying or linking information into spreadsheets and word-processing documents.
- Rolling a prior-period report forward and updating tables, labels, dates, and disclosures.
- Exchanging drafts among preparers, controllers, technical-accounting staff, auditors, and other reviewers.
- Checking calculations, cross-references, formatting, consistency, and approval evidence before issuance.
Antony has described the existing workflow as spreadsheets, Word documents, and email moving between people. That description does not apply identically to every accounting team, but it captures the category of work InScope is trying to streamline.
The difficulty is not simply that the work is repetitive. A single number may appear in several statements, schedules, notes, and filings. A broken link or inconsistent disclosure can create a problem even when the original ledger balance is correct. Teams also need version history, permissions, review evidence, and human sign-off.
What InScope does
InScope’s official product materials describe a shared workspace for preparing and reviewing financial reports. Its capabilities fall into two broad groups.
Drafting and preparation
- Auto-rollforward: Carries prior-year financial statements, footnotes, and disclosures into a new reporting period.
- Disclosure Assistant: Suggests disclosures based on the document, entity or client, and peer benchmarks.
- Smart Formatting: Inserts formatted tables intended for audit-compliant or SEC-ready reporting.
- Linking and syncing: Keeps source data and report content connected so changes can be traced through the workflow.
- Shared workspace: Gives preparers and reviewers one environment for working on the report.
Review and quality control
- Review Assistant: Scans for footing, cross-footing, and internal-consistency exceptions.
- External consistency checks: Looks for language that may conflict with earlier filings or peer disclosures.
- Version history and blacklines: Shows how a document changed between drafts.
- Audit trail: Records revisions, milestones, and review activity.
In plain terms, InScope is aimed at the work between a company’s closed books and its final financial statements: organizing source information, updating recurring documents, formatting output, and identifying issues for a person to review.

What InScope does not yet do
The financing report makes an important qualification: at the time of the February 2026 announcement, InScope was not yet fully automating the generation of income statements and balance sheets.
That means its current positioning is closer to an automation and review layer than to an autonomous accounting system. It may help prepare and check a report, but it does not independently resolve every accounting treatment, estimate, materiality question, unusual transaction, or disclosure judgment.

A tool can flag an inconsistency without proving that the underlying accounting is correct. Similarly, “audit-ready” is product and marketing language; it is not an auditor’s opinion or a guarantee that an auditor, regulator, lender, or filing authority will accept the output.
Founder experience is part of the investment case
Antony and Gootnick met while working at Flexport, where Gootnick was a controller and Antony was an assistant controller. They later worked at companies including Miro, Hopin, and Thrive Global. Their repeated exposure to document-heavy reporting processes led them to start InScope with Tibshraeny, who is identified as co-founder and CTO.
That background matters because financial reporting is a specialized market. A technically impressive AI system still has to handle accounting terminology, recurring templates, review controls, confidentiality, and the consequences of an incorrect output. Norwest investor Sean Jacobsohn said the founders’ firsthand experience with the buyer problem was a differentiator in a domain he characterized as unusually complex. That is an investor view, not independent evidence of product performance.

Customer traction and vendor claims
TechCrunch reported that InScope’s customer count increased fivefold over the preceding 12 months and identified CohnReznick as a customer. The publication described CohnReznick as a top-15 national accounting firm. Customer-count growth should not be confused with revenue growth, retention, or profitability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInScope’s website also reports substantial efficiency gains, including:
- 60% faster first drafts.
- 70% less review time.
- Up to 80% of manual financial-reporting tasks eliminated on one page.
- 60% less repetitive manual labor on its accounting-and-advisory page.
These figures are vendor-reported marketing claims. They are not presented in the available sources with an independently validated sample size, baseline workflow, error rate, or methodology. The financing coverage also includes a founder- or investor-reported claim of up to 20% time savings for formatting and related work. Buyers should ask whether any claimed savings apply to preparers, reviewers, or both, and how the results were measured.
How InScope compares with established platforms
| Platform | Primary focus | Likely strength | How it differs from InScope |
|---|---|---|---|
| InScope | Financial-statement drafting and review | AI-assisted rollforwards, formatting, disclosure support, and consistency checks | Narrower, workflow-specific focus; public materials emphasize preparation and review rather than a complete close or filing suite |
| Workiva | Connected reporting, SEC reporting, governance, risk, compliance, and collaboration | Broad enterprise reporting, data lineage, and filing workflows | Workiva is broader and particularly relevant to public companies with extensive SEC and compliance requirements |
| FloQast | Financial close, compliance, reporting, consolidation, intercompany, and accounting operations | Broader close-management and accounting workflow coverage | FloQast may be a better fit when the primary need is close management rather than statement drafting and review |
| Donnelley Financial Solutions | Financial reporting and filing services and software | Established reporting, compliance, and support capabilities | A young AI-focused startup must compete with mature providers, not just outdated software |
These products overlap, but they are not interchangeable in every deployment. A public company already using Workiva may need SEC reporting, data lineage, governance, and broader compliance controls that a specialized statement-preparation tool does not replace. A company using FloQast may be seeking close and consolidation workflows rather than a new drafting workspace.
FloQast says its pricing is customized and not charged per user. InScope’s official site directs prospective customers to request a demo rather than publishing financial-reporting prices. Enterprise pricing is therefore not directly comparable from the available public information.

Who might use InScope?
InScope is most relevant to:
- Corporate accounting teams and controllers with recurring reporting cycles.
- Technical-accounting and SEC-reporting groups.
- Accounting and audit firms preparing statements for multiple clients.
- Teams that spend significant time updating templates, reconciling repeated disclosures, and coordinating reviews.
An accounting firm may value repeatability across engagements, client separation, review evidence, and capacity during busy season. A corporate controller may care more about ERP and consolidation integrations, permissions, source-to-output traceability, and compatibility with existing close and filing systems.
It may be a poor fit for a very small business with simple, infrequent reporting, or for a team looking for bookkeeping, payroll, tax filing, an ERP replacement, or a complete close-management platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What a serious buyer should test
A demo alone is not enough for a high-stakes reporting workflow. A prospective customer should evaluate:
- Reporting scope: private-company statements, public-company filings, annual reports, quarterly reports, or recurring internal packages.
- Source systems: ERP, general-ledger, consolidation, spreadsheet, and close-system integrations.
- Controls: footing and cross-footing checks, blacklines, approval gates, role-based permissions, and exportable audit evidence.
- Disclosure support: whether the product drafts, suggests, or merely stores disclosures, and what evidence supports each suggestion.
- Human oversight: how users approve, override, and document AI-generated output.
- Implementation: template conversion, historical-document migration, training, and support during close or busy season.
- Security: data retention, model-training policy, access controls, audit logs, and regional hosting.
- Commercial terms: whether pricing is based on users, entities, engagements, or enterprise access, and whether implementation or premium integration fees apply.
The best evaluation would use the customer’s own reporting template, sample disclosures, source-system exports, review workflow, and approval controls. That exposes problems that a polished demonstration may not reveal.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The adoption challenge
Financial reporting is a difficult AI market because it combines structured numbers with narrative language and professional judgment. Customers also have little tolerance for unexplained changes. A useful system must show where a number came from, why a disclosure was suggested, what changed between drafts, and who approved the final version.
Best Value
- Brand New in box; The product ships with all relevant accessories
- Dedicated keys allow easy access to common financial and statistics functions
- Easy-to-use design provides business, finance and statistical calculations fast
- Specially designed to meet the mathematical needs
Messy source data is another limitation. Automation cannot reliably correct an incorrectly mapped chart of accounts, an incomplete close, or an accounting conclusion that has not been made. For highly judgment-heavy reporting, the main bottleneck may be interpretation rather than formatting or reconciliation.
Accounting firms face additional requirements: client isolation, consistent templates, multi-office permissions, and evidence that reviewers performed their work. Public companies may need to integrate any specialized tool with broader SEC-reporting and compliance systems.
What the funding could enable
The new capital could plausibly support product development, enterprise integrations, sales, implementation, or expansion into adjacent accounting workflows. Those are reasonable possibilities for a startup at this stage, but the available reporting does not confirm a specific use-of-proceeds plan.
The strategic question is whether InScope can expand from bounded tasks—such as formatting, rollforwards, and consistency checks—into more trusted accounting workflows without weakening traceability or human control.
Bottom line
InScope’s opportunity is credible because it starts with a specific and costly part of financial reporting: the repetitive work that follows the close and precedes final issuance. Its $14.5 million Series A gives the company more capacity to develop that workflow, but the funding does not prove that its AI claims are independently validated or that it can replace established reporting platforms.
For accounting firms and reporting teams, the relevant question is not whether InScope replaces accountants. It is whether the product can reduce document and review work while preserving source links, controls, audit trails, and professional judgment. That is a narrower claim than fully autonomous financial reporting—and a more credible one.
