Huawei’s 1TB SSD is real, but the $32 price was not a confirmed worldwide launch price. The figure came from a South Korean retail listing for the 1TB Huawei eKitStor Xtreme 200E, reported on December 30, 2024. It represented roughly 47,500 South Korean won converted into U.S. dollars at the time—not a current U.S. retail price.
For buyers outside South Korea, the real cost could include shipping, taxes, payment fees, import complications, and weaker warranty support. As of September 2026, the available evidence does not establish a current authorized U.S. price or broad global distribution.
What Huawei actually launched
The product behind the headline is the eKitStor Xtreme 200E, an internal M.2 2280 NVMe solid-state drive. Huawei’s official datasheet identifies it as a PCIe 4.0 x4 drive using the NVMe 2.0 protocol.

Where the $32 figure came from
Coverage from Tom’s Hardware and GadgetVoize described a South Korean listing priced at 47,500 won. That amount converted to approximately $32 in the December 2024 coverage.
A currency conversion is not the same thing as the price a U.S. buyer pays. An imported drive may add:
- International shipping
- Import taxes or customs charges
- Currency-conversion and payment fees
- Marketplace commissions
- Return-shipping costs
- Potentially limited warranty service
The listing may also have been promotional, temporary, tied to local supply, or affected by a retailer error. It should therefore be described as a historical South Korean price, not as Huawei’s current worldwide MSRP.

The sequential figures are manufacturer ratings, not independent benchmark results. They indicate potential peak performance under specified conditions; they do not guarantee that the drive will maintain those speeds during long, uninterrupted writes.

Why could it be so inexpensive?
The strongest evidence-based explanation is the drive’s budget-oriented design. Korean listings identify the 200E as using QLC NAND, while Huawei describes it as a DRAM-less design. The listings also mention host memory buffer, or HMB, support.
QLC NAND stores four bits per memory cell. That can help reduce the cost per gigabyte, but QLC drives generally offer less write endurance and can experience lower sustained-write performance than comparable TLC models after their dynamic SLC cache is exhausted.
Regional promotions, Korean supply-chain economics, Huawei’s consumer-storage strategy, and currency effects may also have influenced the listing. Claims that geopolitical restrictions or sanctions directly caused the $32 price should be treated as speculation rather than established fact.

The 200E’s rated endurance is 400 TBW, meaning the warranty specification allows up to 400 terabytes written before the TBW limit applies. That is not a prediction that the drive will fail at exactly 400TB, nor does QLC mean the drive is automatically unreliable.

It may be adequate for:
- Gaming and game-library storage
- Office work and web use
- Media playback
- Everyday desktop applications
- Read-heavy laptop or desktop use
A locally supported TLC SSD is usually the safer choice for:
- Frequent large video or photo scratch-disk writes
- Databases, servers, NAS devices, or surveillance recording
- Heavy content-production workloads
- Systems that require clear domestic warranty support
There are no verified independent sustained-write measurements for this specific drive in the supplied evidence. Do not assume that its 6,500 MB/s peak write rating continues indefinitely during a very large transfer.
Do not confuse the 200E with the Xtreme 201
Some coverage appears to mix the 200E with Huawei’s newer eKitStor Xtreme 201. They are separate products.

The faster 7,400 MB/s read and 6,700 MB/s write figures belong to Huawei’s Xtreme 201 documentation. They should not be attributed to the 200E.

Is it suitable for a laptop, desktop, or PS5?
The 200E’s M.2 2280 format and PCIe 4.0 x4 interface make it potentially suitable for compatible desktops and laptops. Before buying, check the host device’s physical clearance, supported PCIe generation, BIOS behavior, and any manufacturer warranty restrictions.
Korean product listings identify the drive as PS5-compatible, but the bare drive does not include a heatsink. A PS5 installation requires an appropriate heatsink and sufficient physical clearance. Verify the console’s storage requirements and the drive’s read-performance specification before purchase.

That is the unresolved part of the story. A South Korean listing does not establish that the drive is stocked, officially supported, or warrantied in the United States. Imported marketplace listings should not automatically be treated as equivalent to official U.S. distribution.

- The seller’s identity and reputation.
- Whether the drive is new, used, or pulled from another system.
- Where it ships from.
- Whether the serial number can be verified.
- The warranty region and who handles claims.
- The return window and cost of return shipping.
- The total landed price after shipping, taxes, and fees.
For a storage device, a slightly higher local price can be financially sensible if it provides easier returns, verified authenticity, and meaningful warranty coverage.

Should you buy the Huawei 200E?
The 200E could make sense as inexpensive, read-heavy storage if you can obtain it from a reputable seller and accept QLC endurance, possible sustained-write slowdowns, and uncertain regional support.
It is a poor fit if you need heavy-write endurance, professional reliability, a bundled PS5 heatsink, or straightforward U.S. after-sales service. In those cases, compare locally sold PCIe 4.0 TLC drives from established vendors. Look beyond sequential speed and compare NAND type, TBW rating, warranty region, controller and firmware support, return policy, and independent reviews.
Do not buy solely because a headline says “$32.” Confirm the actual checkout total and the support you will receive if the drive fails.
