To change the hours customers see on Google Search and Maps, sign in to the Google Account connected to your Google Business Profile, open the profile, and select Edit profile → Hours. Choose the right setting—main hours for your normal weekly schedule, Special hours for short exceptions, More hours for services such as delivery, or a closure status—then save.
The distinction matters: Google recommends Special hours for closures of up to six consecutive days and Temporarily closed for closures of seven or more days, an off-season, or an unknown duration.
Before you begin
Google Business Profile—formerly Google My Business—is the tool businesses use to manage information displayed on Google Search and Maps, including hours, contact details, and location information. It can represent a storefront or a service-area business. Google’s overview of Business Profile explains how it works.

Sign in with the Google Account associated with the profile. The business generally needs to be claimed and verified before you can edit its information, though Google may apply verification requirements differently depending on the profile or account. Owners and managers can edit business information, including hours. A newly added owner or manager may face a seven-day restriction on certain management actions. You can usually find the profile by searching for the business name on Google Search or opening it in Google Maps while signed in. The screen layout and some labels can vary by device or whether you use Search or Maps, but the editing path is generally the same.
Choose the right kind of hours first

These settings do different jobs. In particular, changing main hours to handle a holiday can overwrite the regular weekly schedule. Use Special hours for a temporary exception instead. Google’s hours-editing guide describes the available options.
How to change regular weekly hours
- Sign in to the Google Account linked to the Business Profile.
- Find the business on Google Search or open it in Google Maps.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In the Business hours section, select the edit or pencil control next to Hours.
- Choose Open with main hours.
- Check each day the business is open and enter its opening and closing times.
- Select Save.
If the business does not have ordinary public hours, Google also provides Open with no main hours. That does not mean the business is closed; it means you are not publishing a conventional weekly schedule.

If a business closes and reopens on the same day, enter two periods rather than one range that implies it remains open throughout. For example, a restaurant open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. can set the first period, select Add hours, and enter the second period for Saturday. Save the change.

Show that the business is open 24 hours
For each day the business operates continuously, open that day’s time selector and choose 24 hours, then save. Use Google’s 24-hour option instead of manually entering 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
Set holiday or other short-term hours
Special hours let you keep the normal weekly schedule while showing a holiday, event, or other temporary exception. Google intends this setting for temporary changes or closures of six consecutive days or fewer.
- Open the profile and select Edit profile → Hours.
- Select the edit control next to Special hours.
- Choose a suggested date or select Add a date.
- Enter the unusual opening and closing times, or mark the date Closed. Select Add hours if you need more than one opening period.
- Select Save.
For a closure of seven or more consecutive days, use Temporarily closed instead. Special hours also require the profile to be set to Open with main hours; if they are not appearing, check that setting. See Google’s Special hours instructions.

Use More hours when a supported service has different operating times from the main business—for example, delivery, takeout, pickup, drive-through, or happy hour. These are service-specific hours, not a replacement for the main schedule.

- Open the profile and select Edit profile → Hours.
- Under Add more hours, choose the relevant service.
- Select applicable days, enter the service hours, and save.
Regular main hours need to be set before More hours will display. The service schedule should generally fit within the main business hours. The available categories may vary; consult Google’s More hours guidance.
Mark the business temporarily closed
Choose Temporarily closed if the business is shut for seven or more consecutive days, has closed for the off-season, or does not yet know when it will reopen. This is different from entering a one-day closure as Special hours.
- Open the profile and select Edit profile → Hours.
- Select the edit control next to the hours setting.
- Choose Temporarily closed, then save.
When the business reopens, choose Open with main hours, select its open days, enter the schedule, and save. Google says temporarily closed businesses can rank after open businesses for broad queries in some circumstances; that is not a universal ranking outcome. See Google’s closure guidance.
Mark the business permanently closed—or reopen it
Use Permanently closed only when the business has stopped operating at that location. Open Edit profile → Hours, select the hours edit control, choose Permanently closed, and save. The listing may remain visible on Search and Maps with a closed label.

If a profile was marked permanently closed by mistake and the same business is still operating at the same location, use the hours control to choose Open with main hours, enter the schedule, and save. But if the business permanently closed because it moved or changed names, Google says not to simply reopen the old profile; create and verify a new profile instead. Check Google’s reopening instructions.
Special cases to consider
- Seasonal business: Set the hours that apply during the operating season. During the off-season, mark the profile temporarily closed; set the regular hours again when the business reopens.
- Appointment-only or variable schedules: Do not force a conventional weekly schedule onto a business that does not operate that way. Google says some business types and operating models should not provide ordinary hours. Review its business-hours guidelines.
- Separate departments: If departments have different schedules and separate profiles, use the department’s profile for its hours and the main profile for the main business.
- Open past midnight: Overnight hours cross calendar days, so check how the time period is represented for both days. Special-hours entries that extend into the next day may need to be split between the first day and the following day, with the applicable hours entered explicitly for the following day.
Update hours for multiple locations
If you manage several profiles, use Business Profile Manager to select locations for bulk actions or upload a spreadsheet for structured changes. For one location, direct editing is usually simpler. Google’s bulk-upload instructions explain the spreadsheet process.
Take care with imports: Google warns that empty columns or headings without values can erase existing information in those fields. Review the sheet and the resulting profiles before relying on the new schedule.

If you cannot edit the hours
- Check the account. Search for the business name and city while signed in. Make sure you have selected the correct profile and the Google Account associated with it.
- Check ownership and access. If you are not an owner or manager, ask the profile owner to grant access.
- Claim or verify the profile. Follow Google’s prompts if the listing has not been claimed or verification is required.
- Consider a recent role change. A new owner or manager may have a seven-day restriction on some actions.
- Check whether ordinary hours make sense. Some appointment-based or variable-schedule businesses should use no main hours rather than a made-up schedule.
If the edit control is present but the change does not show, return to the profile and check whether the hours were saved correctly. Google can update profile information using multiple sources, including user reports and licensed content, so make sure the hours on your website and other major listings agree. If a vendor manages listings for you, retain direct owner or manager access to your Google profile so you can correct urgent changes yourself.

Confirm the update
- Reopen the profile’s Hours section and confirm the saved schedule.
- Check the public listing in both Google Search and Google Maps, on mobile and desktop if practical.
- For an upcoming holiday or event, confirm the Special hours label appears for the correct date.
- Check service-specific hours separately if you updated More hours.
- Make the same change to your website, phone greeting, social profiles, and other important directories.
Google’s documentation confirms that Business Profile hours appear on Search and Maps, but does not establish one publication time that applies to every edit. Do not assume a saved change has appeared everywhere until you have checked the customer-facing listing.
Do you need a paid tool?
Usually, no. Google Business Profile is available at no charge, and its own controls are enough to update one location’s main, special, service-specific, or closure hours. A paid listing-management service is more relevant when you manage many locations, need to synchronize data across directories, or need ongoing review, reporting, or local SEO workflows—not just to change Google hours.

Can a manager change business hours on Google?

Why are my Google business hours wrong?
