To produce music with AI, start with a clear brief, generate a draft, revise its sections and arrangement, then export and mix the parts you need. A practical path is to use Suno for a vocal or instrumental song draft, Beat Shaper for editable beat parts and DAW exports, and a desktop DAW for any finishing work. Treat generated audio as a starting point: listen for awkward transitions, muddy layers and parts that do not serve the song, then revise or replace them.
Write A Brief Before You Generate
Decide what the track needs to do before opening a generator. Keep the brief concrete enough to guide a result, but leave room for the tool to interpret it. For example:
- Purpose: a short, energetic instrumental bed for a product video.
- Structure: a clear opening, a fuller middle, and a clean ending.
- Sound: punchy drums, warm bass, and a simple repeating melody.
- Constraints: no vocals, no abrupt ending, and space for spoken narration.
For a song with vocals, add the subject, point of view, emotional tone, and a rough verse-and-chorus structure. Avoid asking for a specific artist’s voice or copying a particular recording. Genre-specific controls and results vary, so check each product’s site for the styles and settings it supports.

Choose A Starting Point

These tools cover different stages; you do not need all of them. For the simplest route, make a draft in Suno and review its edits. For more control over individual beat parts, build or revise them in Beat Shaper and continue in a DAW. Neutron 5 and Ozone are desktop DAW tools for later mixing and mastering, not song generators.

Make And Review A First Draft
- Enter the brief. In Suno, describe the song, vocal or instrumental choice, lyrical idea if relevant, and the broad sound you want. In Beat Shaper, set the available genre, mood, energy, and syncopation controls to match the brief, then generate a beat.
- Generate more than one direction. Keep the brief consistent while changing one element at a time, such as the energy or whether the track has vocals. This makes it easier to hear which choice improved the result.
- Listen from beginning to end. Note the strongest musical idea, any section that drags, abrupt changes, cluttered moments, and whether the ending works for the intended use. Do not choose a draft on the strength of its opening alone.
- Keep a short revision list. Turn observations into specific requests, such as “make the opening shorter,” “leave more space under the narration,” or “replace the second section.” These are creative directions, not guarantees that a product supports a particular edit; check its current controls when a requested change is unavailable.
Revise The Arrangement And Parts
When You Started In Suno
Use the available editing, remixing, extension, or section-replacement options to work on the part that needs attention. If the song has one strong section and one weak one, focus revisions on the weak section rather than regenerating the whole track. Suno also supports stem export, which can help when you want to work with separated parts later. Stem separation is not included in its Free Plan, so check the current plan details before relying on it.
When You Started In Beat Shaper
Use its piano-roll editing and controls to adjust generated drums, basslines, synths, and loops. Listen to the parts together after each change: a bassline that works alone may compete with the melody, and a busy drum pattern may leave too little room for vocals. Beat Shaper runs in a web browser. Its Starter downloads are limited to MP3 and non-commercial use; Ableton Live project export and real-time MIDI require Producer. Check the vendor’s plan details for current export availability.

When A Part Needs More Work In A DAW
Export the parts in a format your DAW can use. Beat Shaper lists MIDI, WAV, MP3, stem, and DAW project export options, with some options dependent on plan. Suno supports stem export, subject to plan limits. If a needed format or workflow is not included in the available product information, confirm it with the vendor before building your process around it.

First balance the arrangement: lower parts that mask the lead, remove layers that do not add something useful, and check the track on headphones and speakers if available. Automated processing can suggest a starting point, but listen to the full mix and adjust anything that makes the song less clear.

Export A Version That Fits Its Use
Before exporting, decide whether you need a finished stereo file, editable MIDI, separate stems, or a project to continue in a DAW. Check the available export formats and plan limits first. Listen to the exported file from start to finish, including the first and last seconds, and confirm that it has the ending and balance you intended. If it will sit under speech or video, check it in that context as well.
