Yes—you can move crypto from Coinbase.com to Coinbase Wallet. The easiest route is usually to open Coinbase Wallet (or the current Base app experience), choose Receive, and select Receive from Coinbase. If that option is unavailable, copy the wallet’s address and use Coinbase.com’s Send flow.
Before confirming, match both the asset and the network. A transfer to the wrong address or an unsupported network may be permanent.
Coinbase and Coinbase Wallet are different products
Coinbase.com is a custodial exchange account. Coinbase holds the hosted balance on its platform while you use the account to buy, sell, and transfer crypto.

Coinbase Wallet is a self-custody wallet. After crypto arrives there, Coinbase no longer holds it. Control depends on the wallet’s recovery phrase or backup method, and you are responsible for protecting access, approving transactions, and maintaining a backup. Self-custody is not automatically safer; it removes the exchange’s custody but makes recovery your responsibility.

Some current Coinbase materials refer to the newer Base app or Base mode, while other screens and help pages still say Coinbase Wallet. Labels vary by app version, device, and region.
Before you transfer
- Install the official Coinbase Wallet or Base app, or set up the official browser extension.
- Back up the wallet and know how you will protect its recovery credentials.
- Confirm that the asset is supported in the wallet on the network you intend to use.
- Check that the Coinbase balance is available, not pending or on hold. Coinbase says held crypto cannot be transferred through the Wallet connection until it becomes available.
- Make sure the transfer amount plus any displayed fee fits within your available balance.
- Decide whether to send a small test amount first, particularly for a valuable balance, unfamiliar token, new network, or manually copied address.
Support is not universal. An asset available to trade on Coinbase.com may not be supported in Coinbase Wallet on the same network, and Wallet may support assets that Coinbase.com does not offer for trading. Check the live asset and network choices in both products immediately before sending. See Coinbase’s support and linking guidance.
Method 1: Transfer from inside Coinbase Wallet
This is generally the simplest method because it reduces manual address copying.

- Open Coinbase Wallet or the current Base app experience.
- Open Assets or Payments.
- Select Receive.
- Choose Receive from Coinbase.
- If shown, open the Transfer from Coinbase tab.
- Select the asset and the eligible Coinbase balance.
- Select Continue.
- Review the amount, asset, destination, network, and fee, then confirm and complete any security prompts.
Depending on the interface, equivalent labels may include Add crypto, Coinbase account, or Transfer from Coinbase. The option may not appear for every asset, account, region, or app version, and it may require linking or authorizing the Coinbase account. Method 2: Send to the wallet address manually
Get the receiving address
- Open Coinbase Wallet or Base.
- Select Receive.
- Choose the exact asset.
- Choose the network if the wallet offers more than one.
- Copy the displayed address or use the QR code. Keep this screen available for comparison.
The address and QR code are specific to the selected asset and network. Some assets also require a memo, destination tag, payment ID, or similar field. Copy every required field shown by the wallet; an address alone is not always sufficient.

Send from Coinbase.com
- Open Coinbase.com or the Coinbase mobile app.
- Select Send, Send/Receive, or Pay, depending on the interface.
- Select the same asset you selected in the wallet.
- Enter the amount.
- Paste the wallet address or scan its QR code.
- Select the same compatible network on both sides if Coinbase presents a network choice.
- Review the destination address, asset, network, amount, memo or tag if applicable, and displayed fee.
- Confirm the transfer and complete two-factor authentication or other security checks if prompted.
- Track the transaction status, then verify the balance in the wallet.
Coinbase describes transfers to external wallet addresses as on-chain transactions. Its general transfer instructions cover web and mobile flows.
Network selection: the critical safety check
Do not send based only on the coin’s name. Match the asset and network shown in Coinbase Wallet with the asset and network selected in Coinbase.com.

ETH can also be transferred through more than one supported network. An Ethereum-network deposit is not automatically interchangeable with a deposit on Base, Polygon, Solana, or another network. A cheaper or faster network is not safe unless the receiving wallet explicitly shows that network for the selected asset.
Coinbase’s multiple-network guidance warns that sending through an incorrect or unsupported network can result in permanent loss. A matching-looking address does not by itself prove that the transfer is compatible.
Before you click Send: verify the complete destination address, asset, network, amount, and any memo or destination tag.

Fees and arrival times
An external-wallet transfer is an on-chain transaction. Network fees compensate the blockchain’s validators, miners, or other processing mechanism. Coinbase may estimate and charge a network fee for a standalone send, and the amount can vary with the asset, network congestion, transaction size, and Coinbase’s calculation.

Do not rely on a generic dollar amount. Check the fee displayed immediately before confirmation. Coinbase says applicable fees are disclosed at transaction time; see its fee disclosures and explanation of network or miner fees. An integrated Coinbase-to-Wallet flow may show a different fee experience from a manually entered external address.
There is no universal arrival time. Completion depends on the blockchain, congestion, required confirmations, Coinbase processing or security review, and whether the transaction is queued, pending, broadcast, or confirmed. Use Coinbase’s transaction details page and, when available, the transaction ID or blockchain explorer link rather than assuming that a transfer should be instant.
What to do if the transfer is missing
- Confirm that the transfer was submitted, not merely prepared or cancelled.
- Check its status in Coinbase.
- Verify the asset and network selected.
- Compare the destination address character by character with the wallet address. At minimum, check the beginning and end; for a high-value transfer, compare the entire address on a trusted screen.
- Check whether the asset required a memo, tag, or other identifier.
- Look for a transaction hash or blockchain-explorer link. This helps distinguish a Coinbase-side delay from a blockchain-confirmation delay.
- In Wallet, switch to the correct network and refresh or reopen the app.
- If the token is supported but hidden, add it manually only through the wallet’s supported-token controls for that network.
- Contact Coinbase through its official support channels if the transaction remains pending or has not been broadcast.
If crypto was sent to the wrong address or through an unsupported network, recovery may be impossible. Coinbase warns that it may not be able to recover incorrectly sent assets. Do not pay anyone claiming they can unlock the funds in exchange for your recovery phrase or an upfront payment.
Common problems
“Receive from Coinbase” is missing
Update or reopen the official app, confirm the Coinbase account is linked or authorized, and check whether the asset and balance are eligible. If the integrated route remains unavailable, use the manual address method.

The balance is visible but cannot be sent
A recent bank deposit, purchase, account review, or other restriction may make funds visible while they remain unavailable for withdrawal. Check the available balance and account status. Do not assume the wallet is at fault.
The full balance cannot be transferred
The network fee may need to be deducted from the balance. Review Coinbase’s maximum sendable amount and displayed fee instead of entering the full visible balance manually.
The asset arrived but is not displayed
Confirm the wallet is viewing the correct network and that the token is supported there. If appropriate, add the token using the wallet’s own supported-token feature. Do not connect the wallet to an unverified “validation” or “synchronization” website.

Security checklist
- Never share your recovery phrase or private key—not with Coinbase support, a friend, a website, or anyone claiming to be helping.
- Download the wallet only from Coinbase’s official app or extension pages.
- Ignore direct messages, fake support accounts, claim links, and websites requesting wallet validation.
- Check the address and network on the final review screen. Clipboard malware and address-poisoning scams make visual verification important.
- Use a trusted, malware-free device where possible.
- Send a small test amount before a high-value transfer when practical. A test reduces risk but cannot make an irreversible mistake reversible.
- For substantial long-term holdings, consider whether a hardware wallet’s dedicated signing model is appropriate. It adds cost, setup work, and another recovery phrase to protect; it is not necessary for every small or short-term transfer.
- Remember that losing the recovery phrase or backup can mean losing access to the wallet.
After the crypto arrives
The asset is now controlled by the wallet’s self-custody credentials rather than Coinbase’s hosted account. If you plan to use a dapp, swap tokens, mint an NFT, or send the asset onward, you may need the network’s native gas token to pay transaction fees. The required token and amount depend on the network and action, so check the wallet’s transaction preview before approving anything.

Is Coinbase Wallet free?
The wallet software is generally presented as a free download, but blockchain transactions and some transfer routes can involve network or service fees. Check the amount shown before confirming.
Can I transfer crypto back from Coinbase Wallet to Coinbase?
Yes, if Coinbase.com supports deposits for that asset and network. Generate the deposit instructions in Coinbase.com first, then send from Wallet using the exact matching asset, network, and any required memo or tag.
Do I need ETH or another gas token after receiving crypto?
Possibly. Future swaps, dapp actions, or transfers may require the network’s native token for fees. The requirement depends on the network and transaction.
Is Coinbase Wallet safer than keeping crypto on Coinbase?
Neither is automatically safer. Coinbase custody reduces responsibility for private-key management, while Coinbase Wallet gives you control but makes you responsible for the recovery phrase, approvals, and transaction security.
