The best way to announce an internship on LinkedIn is to create the formal job listing first, then share it with a concise LinkedIn post. The job listing provides structured details, search visibility, and an application process. The announcement post helps reach employees, students, alumni, and professional communities.

Use the listing as the source of truth and send applicants to one official application destination—either the LinkedIn job, your careers page, or your applicant-tracking system.

Choose the right LinkedIn format

“Internship announcement” can mean three different things:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Format Best for Limitation
Standard LinkedIn post Announcing an opening to followers, employees, students, alumni, and professional networks. It is not a structured job listing and may not appear in LinkedIn Jobs search.
LinkedIn job post Receiving applications, appearing in job search and recommendations, and adding qualifications or screening questions. It requires more preparation and may be subject to free-post limits.
#Hiring feature Signaling that you or your organization is recruiting and encouraging your network to share the opportunity. Availability and controls vary by account, country, device, and LinkedIn feature tests.

If you want applications rather than awareness alone, start with a formal LinkedIn job post. Then publish the announcement.

Prepare the internship details first

Candidates should not have to infer the basics from vague phrases such as “great opportunity” or “valuable exposure.” Prepare these details before posting:

  • Title: Use a specific title, such as “Marketing Intern — Summer 2027,” rather than simply “Intern.”
  • Team and function: Explain whether the role is in marketing, engineering, finance, design, data, operations, or another area.
  • Location: State whether it is remote, hybrid, or on-site, and identify the eligible country, state, or region.
  • Dates and duration: Include the start date, end date, and total length.
  • Hours: State expected weekly hours and any required time-zone overlap.
  • Pay: Clearly identify the wage, salary, stipend, reimbursement, or unpaid status.
  • Academic credit: Say whether credit is available, required, or unrelated to the position.
  • Responsibilities: List the projects and work the intern will actually perform.
  • Learning and supervision: Describe mentorship, training, tools, and the person or team supervising the intern.
  • Qualifications: Separate required skills from preferred skills and avoid unnecessary requirements.
  • Deadline and timeline: Include the application deadline and, if known, when interviews or decisions will occur.
  • Application route: Provide one official link or application email.
  • Work authorization: Explain relevant eligibility or visa-sponsorship requirements.
  • Accessibility and equal opportunity: Include appropriate contact and nondiscrimination information.

LinkedIn’s job-description guidance specifically emphasizes detailed descriptions and clear disclosure of internships, volunteer positions, and unpaid opportunities. LinkedIn’s rules do not replace labor, wage, discrimination, privacy, accessibility, immigration, or educational-credit requirements applicable to your location.

How to create a LinkedIn internship job post

On desktop

  1. At the top of LinkedIn, select Jobs.
  2. Select Post a job or Post a free job.
  3. Enter the internship title, workplace type, location, and employment details.
  4. Choose whether to use LinkedIn’s AI drafting option or write the description yourself.
  5. Add the responsibilities, qualifications, compensation, dates, hours, and application instructions.
  6. Add screening questions and rejection settings if they will help you manage applications.
  7. Choose whether applications should be collected on LinkedIn or through your careers page or ATS.
  8. Associate the listing with the correct company LinkedIn Page.
  9. Select Post without promoting or choose a paid promotion option.
  10. Review the published listing and test the application link.

LinkedIn job posts are created from an individual member account, using the poster’s real name, but they can be associated with an organization’s Page. See LinkedIn’s guidance on posting a job from a company account.

On mobile

  1. Tap Jobs.
  2. Tap Post a job.
  3. Enter the title and choose Write with AI or Write on my own.
  4. Add the job details, description, qualifications, application method, and settings.
  5. Review the listing and choose the free or promoted option.

Menu labels can differ because LinkedIn changes its interface and tests features. Recruiter, Recruiter Lite, job-slot, and enterprise users may see a different workflow.

Make the listing transparent and credible

Unpaid internships

If the internship is unpaid, say so prominently. Also state the hours, duration, training, supervision, responsibilities, academic-credit terms, and any reimbursement. Do not imply that “exposure” or a future job is compensation. Confirm that the arrangement complies with the law in every relevant jurisdiction before publishing.

Remote internships

“Remote” does not automatically mean worldwide. List eligible locations, required time-zone overlap, equipment expectations, and whether the employer can legally engage an intern where they live.

International applicants

State whether applicants need existing work authorization, whether visa sponsorship is available, and where the internship must be performed. This prevents candidates from investing time in an opportunity they cannot legally accept.

Multiple internship tracks

Create separate listings when tracks differ materially in function, pay, location, dates, qualifications, or application process. A single vague “we’re hiring interns” post can reduce search relevance and create confusion.

Write the announcement post

A strong announcement answers five questions quickly: What is the role? Who should apply? What are the conditions? What will the intern do? Where and by when should they apply?

  1. Open by stating that applications are available.
  2. Name the internship, company, and team.
  3. Identify the intended candidate—for example, a student, recent graduate, or career changer.
  4. Summarize location, dates, hours, and compensation.
  5. Explain the work and learning opportunity.
  6. Give one direct application link.
  7. Include the deadline and time zone when relevant.
  8. Ask relevant employees, alumni, or professional contacts to share it.
  9. Use a small number of specific hashtags.

Short announcement template

We’re hiring: [Internship Title] at [Company].

We’re looking for a [student/recent graduate/field] to join our [team] from [start date] through [end date]. This is a [paid/unpaid], [part-time/full-time], [remote/hybrid/on-site] internship based in [location].

You’ll work on:
• [Project or responsibility]
• [Project or responsibility]
• [Project or responsibility]

You’ll learn about [skills or business area] while working with [team or supervisor].

Apply by [deadline]: [official application link]

Please share this with someone who may be a good fit.

#[InternshipField] #[Industry] #Internship

This is a clarity model, not a guaranteed-performing formula. The job title, accurate details, relevant audience, and application experience matter more than adding a long list of hashtags.

Student-focused example

Applications are open for our paid Data Analytics Intern position in Bengaluru, running from June 1 through August 31, 2027. This is a full-time, hybrid internship for students or recent graduates with coursework in statistics, economics, computer science, or a related field.

The intern will build dashboard reports, clean customer data, and present findings with guidance from our analytics team. Apply by April 15 through our careers page: [link].

Careers-page announcement

Our Summer 2027 Product Design Internship is now open. This paid, 12-week hybrid role is based in [location] and includes portfolio-building work, weekly mentorship, and collaboration with product managers and engineers.

See the full requirements and apply by [date] on our official careers page: [link]. Please do not send personal documents in the comments.

Where should the post send applicants?

Use a LinkedIn job link when the role is listed there and you want LinkedIn discovery or application management. Use the company careers page or ATS when applicants must upload portfolios, complete assessments, submit legal or demographic forms, or move through multiple application stages.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not scatter candidates across several competing links. Choose one primary destination, make sure it works on mobile, and use a tracking parameter or dedicated URL if you need to compare traffic from the company Page, employees, universities, or other channels.

Use the company Page and employee networks

  • Confirm that the company Page has the correct logo, description, website, and current information.
  • Associate the job with the correct Page so the organization identity and Page link appear accurately.
  • Publish from the company Page, hiring manager profile, or both when appropriate.
  • Ask employees to share the original post instead of creating many inconsistent copies.
  • Invite team members to add authentic context about the work, mentorship, and team.
  • Share with relevant alumni, university career offices, professional associations, and industry groups.

LinkedIn’s Page guidance recommends keeping company information current and posting updates regularly. Do not imply that a university endorses the role unless it has authorized that relationship.

Hashtags, tagging, and #Hiring

Choose a few specific hashtags, such as #MarketingIntern, #SoftwareEngineering, #DataScience, #Internship, or #StudentJobs. Add a location hashtag only when it helps candidates find the role. Tag the company Page and relevant collaborators only when the tags are accurate and welcome; do not tag dozens of students or universities without permission.

The #Hiring feature can help an eligible member create or share a job and may add a #Hiring frame to their profile. It is a hiring signal and sharing mechanism, not a guarantee of viral reach or qualified applicants. Some accounts may not have every control.

Free versus promoted LinkedIn jobs

Start organically when the company already has a relevant audience and the listing is easy to find. Consider promotion when the internship is geographically narrow, difficult to fill, highly competitive, time-sensitive, or generating too few qualified applicants after the listing and targeting have been improved.

LinkedIn’s current guidance says free-job behavior varies by account and market. A free post may be paused after 14 days and, if not promoted, may automatically close after 30 days. Free application limits typically range from 10 to 30 applications, and a member may have only one active free job at a time, subject to additional limits. Check the listing’s actual status rather than promising candidates a fixed duration.

Promoted jobs use either a daily average budget or a total budget. LinkedIn says pricing depends on demand and charges are based on clicks in the country where the job is posted; there is no universal fixed price. Measure clicks, completed applications, qualified applicants, and cost per qualified applicant—not impressions alone. Close the listing when the position is filled.

A promoted job cannot simply be converted back into a free job. LinkedIn says the employer may need to close it and create a new free listing if eligible. See the guidance on promoted-job budgets, promotion costs, and promoted-job management.

Troubleshoot common problems

The job appears closed or disappears

  1. Open Manage job posts.
  2. Check whether the listing is paused, closed, expired, or at its application limit.
  3. Confirm the Page association and application URL.
  4. Check whether the free-post pause or closure window has been reached.
  5. Reopen, promote, or recreate the listing only after identifying the cause.
  6. Update every announcement if the application URL changes.

Closed jobs are removed from search results. A direct shared URL may therefore stop working as an application route.

There are too few applicants

First improve the title, location, compensation disclosure, qualifications, and application process. Ask relevant employees, alumni, and university contacts to share the original listing. Promote only after confirming that the opportunity itself is clear and accessible.

There are too many irrelevant applicants

Make the title and location more precise, distinguish required from preferred qualifications, explain the actual work, and add reasonable screening questions. Do not add arbitrary barriers that are unrelated to performance.

The hiring manager cannot use #Hiring

Eligibility can depend on current employment, Page permissions, account type, device, country, or feature availability. Publish the formal job listing and announcement without relying on the feature, and confirm that the poster’s profile and Page association are accurate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A duplicate repost is blocked

LinkedIn says a free job with the same title and company as a previous post may be ineligible for free reposting within seven days. Edit the existing listing where possible, close it when hiring ends, and do not change the title solely to evade platform limits.
