Sign in to Coursera, open your profile menu, choose Settings, then find and complete the account or personal-data deletion option. Before confirming, download any certificates you need and cancel any active subscription separately: Coursera documents account deletion and subscription cancellation as different processes, and does not promise that deleting an account cancels every subscription.
Before deleting your Coursera account
Deletion removes important learning records, so save what you need and check billing first. Coursera’s Privacy Notice, last updated May 11, 2026, says deletion removes your learner profile, course history, and certificates or certifications. Those credentials will no longer be accessible, verifiable, or reissued through Coursera.
- Save certificates and certifications. Download copies and, if useful, save credential URLs, IDs, or screenshots. A saved PDF does not preserve Coursera’s ability to verify or reissue the credential after deletion.
- Save your own course materials. Copy notes and download project files, submitted work, or peer-review material you want to keep.
- Check subscriptions and purchases. Look in My Purchases for Coursera Plus, course, or Specialization subscriptions. Cancel recurring plans separately and submit any refund request before deleting.
- Verify the account. If you have signed in with Google, Apple, Facebook, or an organization, make sure the account you are about to delete is the one containing your learning records.
Coursera’s [Privacy Notice](https://www.coursera.org/about/privacy) describes the data affected by deletion. Its [Terms of Use](https://www.coursera.org/about/terms), effective January 1, 2026, set out separate cancellation and refund rules.
How to delete your Coursera account
- Sign in to the Coursera account you want to remove.
- Open the profile dropdown in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll to the account or privacy area and select the account or personal-data deletion option.
- Review the on-screen information, then complete the confirmation process if you are ready to proceed.
Coursera confirms the Settings route in its [Privacy Notice](https://www.coursera.org/about/privacy), but the exact control label may vary by interface or account. Do not assume that a particular button name or confirmation prompt will appear for everyone.

What deletion removes—and what it may not
Coursera says deletion removes the learner profile and course history, as well as certificates and certifications associated with the account. Expect related progress, enrollments, achievements, and account history to become unavailable. Coursera does not promise that a new account created with the same email address will restore those records.
For learners, deletion is effectively permanent: Coursera says deleted credentials cannot be accessed, verified, or reissued through its platform. That does not mean every trace disappears instantly. Coursera says it may retain limited personal data for lawful or legitimate purposes, and residual information may remain in databases, access logs, or other records. Its Privacy Notice does not give a universal deletion timetable.

Account deletion is not subscription cancellation
If your goal is to stop future charges, cancel the subscription rather than relying on account deletion. Coursera’s [Terms of Use](https://www.coursera.org/about/terms) direct learners to My Purchases or Coursera Support to cancel. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled; cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, with access normally continuing until then. Coursera does not state a blanket guarantee that deleting an account cancels every subscription.
Cancellation does not automatically issue a refund. Eligibility depends on the product, purchase channel, timing, and applicable terms. For example, Coursera’s Terms state a 14-day refund period for Coursera Plus Annual, subject to the policy’s conditions. Certain one-time course and Specialization purchases have a seven-day or pre-certificate refund window, whichever comes first, also subject to product terms. Purchases through third-party marketplaces follow that marketplace’s refund process. Coursera says applicable refunds may take 7–10 business days to process.

Coursera says deletion may be disabled for some learners, particularly those enrolled in degree programs, for-credit certificate programs, or similar offerings. Institution-linked or organization-managed accounts may also involve records controlled by a program provider. Contact the sponsoring institution where relevant, as well as Coursera, rather than assuming you can remove every associated record through the account settings.
- Sign out and sign back in, checking that you used the account and sign-in method where your learning records are stored.
- Try Coursera in a desktop or mobile web browser, then open Settings from the profile menu and scroll through the page.
- Check whether your enrollment is part of a degree, for-credit program, employer, university, or other organization.
- Contact [Coursera Learner Support](https://www.coursera.org/about/contact). For a privacy-related deletion request, email [email protected].
The browser and account checks are practical troubleshooting steps, not requirements Coursera lists in its policy. If your goal is only to stop promotional or course emails, update your communication preferences instead; Coursera’s [contact page](https://www.coursera.org/about/contact) links to help for checking and changing email preferences. Deleting the app from your device is also separate from deleting your Coursera account.
