Only eligible Cash App users can borrow money through Cash App. If the feature is available on your account, open the app and go to Money → Borrow. Cash App advertises loans from $20 up to an individualized limit of as much as $500, but neither the feature nor the maximum amount is guaranteed. Review the finance charge, total repayment amount, due date, and automatic-payment terms before accepting.

Cash App says Borrow funds are deposited instantly into your Cash App balance. Availability, limits, fees, and repayment terms can vary by account, state, product version, and the loan agreement shown in your app.

Does Cash App let you borrow money?

Yes. Cash App Borrow is a closed-end loan product for eligible U.S. users. The lender and controlling terms are identified in the loan documents presented to you; Cash App’s current consumer page identifies Square Financial Services, Inc. for Borrow.

Borrow is different from several other Cash App features:

  • Sending money to or receiving money from another person: This is a peer-to-peer payment, not a Cash App loan.
  • Free Overdraft Coverage: Eligible Cash App Green users may receive limited coverage for qualifying Cash App Card purchases. It is not unrestricted cash and does not cover every transaction, an ATM withdrawal, or a cash withdrawal.
  • Direct deposit and early pay: Cash App may provide access to an incoming paycheck up to two days early. That is early access to earned wages, not borrowing.
  • Afterpay: Afterpay is separate pay-over-time financing for eligible purchases or transactions, not unrestricted cash for bills or rent.

Cash App’s terms describe Cash App Lending as including closed-end products such as Cash App Borrow and Afterpay.

How to borrow money from Cash App

The current public instructions use the Money tab. Menu labels can change by account or app version, so use the Borrow icon or loan-details screen if your layout differs.

  1. Open the official Cash App. Update it through the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store if an update is available.
  2. Tap Money.
  3. Tap Borrow. If you do not see Borrow, Cash App has not necessarily made an offer to your account.
  4. Review your available limit and choose an amount within that limit. The advertised minimum is $20.
  5. Read the loan disclosures. Confirm the amount borrowed, finance charge or flat fee, total repayment amount, due date, repayment schedule, automatic-payment authorization, and any late or overdue charges.
  6. Accept only if repayment is manageable. After acceptance, confirm that the funds arrived in your Cash App balance.
  7. Save the loan summary. A screenshot or downloaded copy can help you track the due date and total amount owed.

Cash App says the funds are deposited instantly into the Cash App balance. “Instant” funding does not necessarily mean an instant transfer to an external bank account.

Who is eligible for Cash App Borrow?

Eligibility is determined by Cash App and can change. Published factors include:

  • Being at least 18 years old.
  • Being the legal owner of the Cash App account.
  • Using a personal, unrestricted account in good standing.
  • Completing identity verification.
  • Living in a state where Borrow is offered.
  • Not being overdue on another Cash App Lending product.
  • Not using a Business Account, Sponsored Account, or Restricted Account.

Cash App says many users become eligible after depositing at least $300 per month in paychecks into Cash App or linking an external account that receives at least $500 per month in deposits. It also lists regular Cash App Card use and maintaining money in the Cash App balance as factors. These figures are not a guaranteed approval formula, and direct deposit does not automatically unlock Borrow.

Cash App’s main Borrow page currently says the product is unavailable in Colorado, Iowa, and Oregon. State availability can change, and the offer displayed in your app controls your actual access.

How much can you borrow?

Cash App advertises Borrow amounts starting at $20 and limits of up to $500. Your account may show a substantially smaller limit—or no offer at all.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cash App has separately described limits of up to $400 for first-time borrowers, with possible increases of up to $300. Its higher $500 figure includes a Cash App Green increase for qualifying, spend-active users. Cash App reported that, as of October 1, 2025, the average first-time-borrower limit for spend actives was $153. These figures should not be treated as promises about your account.

Eligible users may be able to take multiple Borrow loans up to their personal limit. This does not mean unlimited borrowing, and an overdue balance can prevent another loan.

How much does Cash App Borrow cost?

Cash App markets Borrow as having a flat fee rather than conventional interest. The important number is the specific total repayment amount shown before you accept. The loan summary and agreement should identify the finance charge and any applicable charges.

Do not assume that a fee quoted on another website applies to your loan. The amount can depend on the applicable agreement, state, product version, and repayment option. For example, a $100 loan with a $5 fee would require $105 before any late charges—but $5 is not a universal fee unless your own disclosure shows it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The current SFS agreement states that overdue interest may be 1.25% per week, non-compounding, on unpaid principal, and that a $5 outstanding-balance fee may apply after the stated grace period in applicable agreements. Older or different agreements use different language, so read the document attached to your loan.

A flat fee can be expensive when expressed as an annualized rate. For illustration, a $5 fee on a $100 loan lasting 30 days equals a 5% charge for that period; simple mathematical annualization would be about 60% before late charges. That is an illustration—not Cash App’s disclosed APR—and it excludes possible overdue charges.

How do you repay a Cash App loan?

Cash App’s public Borrow page lists these repayment approaches:

  • Pay as you receive cash: Make payments as money becomes available.
  • Weekly installments: Make scheduled prepayments during the loan period.
  • Pay the entire balance at once: Pay the amount due by the final due date.

You may also be able to make manual prepayments. Under Cash App’s autopay terms, optional weekly prepayments do not eliminate the final due-date obligation. You may skip an optional scheduled prepayment, but you cannot skip the final payment due on the due date.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Autopay can be disabled through the loan-details screen when that control is available. Disabling autopay does not cancel the loan, remove the balance, or change the final due date.

What happens if you miss repayment?

On the due date, Cash App may attempt to collect from your Cash App balance. If necessary, it may also attempt to charge the linked debit card. If the available funds are insufficient, partial payments may be processed.

After the due date, collection attempts may continue against money entering your Cash App balance. Depending on the applicable agreement, overdue interest, outstanding-balance fees, account restrictions, or credit-reporting consequences may apply. You may also lose eligibility for additional Cash App Lending products while the balance is overdue.

Cash App’s public product page says Borrow does not check your credit score or report ordinary Borrow activity to credit bureaus. However, the loan documents contain default and credit-reporting provisions. The safest interpretation is that ordinary activity may not involve a conventional credit check or routine reporting, but the signed loan agreement controls if the loan becomes delinquent or defaults.

An empty Cash App balance does not erase the obligation. The agreement may authorize attempts against a linked debit card and, in some circumstances, future funds entering the Cash App balance.

Why is Borrow missing from Cash App?

If you cannot find Money → Borrow, possible explanations include:

  • Your account has not received an offer.
  • Borrow is not available in your state.
  • Identity verification is incomplete.
  • Your account is sponsored, restricted, a business account, or otherwise not eligible.
  • Your account is not in good standing.
  • You have an overdue Cash App Lending balance.
  • Cash App changed or withdrew the offer, or is reevaluating the account.
  • The app interface changed.

Try these steps:

  1. Confirm that you use a personal, unrestricted account.
  2. Complete any identity-verification request inside Cash App.
  3. Check for account restrictions, payment problems, and Cash App notifications.
  4. Review the Money tab again and update the app through the official app store.
  5. Contact Cash App Support through the app or official Cash App support channels.

Do not pay anyone to activate Borrow. Cash App should not require an upfront “processing fee” to unlock a loan. Never share your sign-in code, PIN, password, or full account credentials; do not install remote-access software at someone else’s request. A phone number in a search result, PDF, video description, or social-media post is not proof that the person is affiliated with Cash App.

Cash App Borrow alternatives

Alternative What it does Important limitation
Free Overdraft Coverage May cover up to $200 for qualifying Cash App Card purchase transactions for eligible Cash App Green users. It is not cash, an ATM withdrawal, or general ACH coverage.
Direct deposit and early pay May provide access to an earned paycheck up to two days early. You need an eligible payroll arrangement; it is not a loan.
Afterpay Splits eligible purchases or transactions into payments. It is not unrestricted money for rent, utilities, food, or debt repayment.
Employer-linked wage access May provide access to wages already earned. Availability and fees depend on your employer and provider.
Credit-union small-dollar loan May offer formal disclosures and a longer repayment period. Approval, membership, pricing, and availability vary.
Payment arrangement or assistance A utility, medical provider, landlord, nonprofit, or emergency-assistance program may reduce the need to borrow. Eligibility and timing vary, but this can be preferable when repayment is uncertain.

Is Cash App Borrow a good idea?

Borrow may fit a small, one-time gap when you have a reliable near-term source of repayment, understand the total cost, and can tolerate automatic withdrawals from your Cash App balance or linked debit card.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It may be a poor fit when your income is uncertain, the loan would cover a recurring shortfall, automatic collection could cause rent or food payments to fail, you need more than the displayed limit, or you are already relying on another expensive loan. Compare the total repayment amount—not just the advertised flat fee—with the cost of a late bill, overdraft, or other available option.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone borrow from Cash App?

No. Borrow is offered only to eligible users, and eligibility depends on account status, verification, activity, deposits, location, and other factors.

Can I borrow $200 or $500?

Only if that amount is within the personal limit displayed in your Cash App account. Cash App advertises limits up to $500, but many users receive less.

Does Cash App check credit?

Cash App says its ordinary Borrow process does not check your credit score. Review your loan agreement for the applicable credit provisions, particularly if you become delinquent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How fast do I get the money?

Cash App says approved funds are deposited instantly into the Cash App balance after acceptance. External-bank transfers can follow different timing.

Can I borrow without direct deposit?

Possibly. Cash App lists paycheck deposits and linked-account deposits as eligibility factors, not a universal requirement. There is no guarantee that another activity will produce an offer.

Why did my Borrow limit change?

Limits are individualized and can change as Cash App evaluates account history, deposits, card use, repayment history, account status, and other factors. A higher advertised maximum is not a promised increase for every user.

Can I borrow from another Cash App user?

A person can send you money through Cash App, but that transfer is not a formal Cash App Borrow loan. Any repayment arrangement is private and is not covered by Borrow’s disclosures. Never pay an alleged lender an upfront fee.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if I cannot repay?

Check the agreement and due date, make any payment you can through the app, and contact official Cash App Support promptly. Avoid taking another costly loan merely to cover the first one; collection attempts, fees, restrictions, or reporting consequences may apply under your agreement.

Is Cash App Borrow available in my state?

Cash App’s main Borrow page currently lists Colorado, Iowa, and Oregon as unavailable states. Availability can change, so the offer shown in your app and the current official terms control.
