Carbonite’s consumer plans cost the equivalent of $8 to $13.50 per month at standard pricing, based on annual subscriptions of $95.99 to $161.99. The promotional first-year prices currently shown by Carbonite work out to about $6.33 to $8.08 per month, but the annual charge—not the monthly equivalent—is generally what you pay upfront. Plans are priced per computer, so a second computer usually means another subscription.
Prices and promotions below were listed by Carbonite in August 2026. Check the order summary before buying: offers, renewal rates, taxes and business-plan configurations can change.
Carbonite pricing at a glance
Carbonite markets its consumer backup plans with monthly-equivalent figures, but the plans are generally sold for an annual term. The table shows both the standard annual price and the current promotional annual price listed on Carbonite’s consumer backup page. Monthly figures are each annual total divided by 12; they do not mean that Carbonite will charge that amount monthly.

What each Carbonite personal plan includes
All three Safe plans are marketed with unlimited cloud backup for the covered computer. The meaningful differences are the types of sources and services included—not the number of computers. Carbonite’s comparison chart describes the tier features; check its current terms for supported devices and exclusions.
Carbonite Safe Basic: $95.99 a year standard
Basic is the entry plan for backing up files on one computer. It is suited to someone who wants routine cloud backup of documents and other eligible files, but does not need an external hard drive included in the plan. Basic does not include the higher-tier video-backup and Webroot antivirus features or Prime’s courier-recovery availability.
Carbonite Safe Plus: $131.99 a year standard
Plus adds backup for one external hard drive, automatic video backup and Webroot computer antivirus, alongside the computer backup. An external drive must be supported and connected as Carbonite requires; a drive that is disconnected cannot supply files for backup. Do not assume that a network-attached storage device or every removable drive is covered. Carbonite discusses external-drive coverage in its plan information.
Carbonite Safe Prime: $161.99 a year standard
Prime includes the Plus features and makes courier recovery available. That does not mean a physical recovery shipment is included at no extra cost: Carbonite says courier delivery is available for an additional fee. Prime is most relevant if that recovery option is worth the added annual cost to you.

“Unlimited” describes the backup-storage allowance for the covered plan; it does not mean unlimited computers, external drives, recovery shipments or every kind of storage and file. Carbonite is a backup service, not a general-purpose file-sync or collaboration drive. Files need to be locally available to the backup software: cloud-only placeholders, such as some OneDrive Files On-Demand items, may not be present for Carbonite to back up. Is Carbonite billed monthly or annually?
For the consumer plans, treat “per month” as an effective monthly cost unless the specific checkout page for your product and location explicitly says otherwise. For example, $95.99 divided by 12 is about $8.00 per month, but the subscription is generally for one year and the order summary shows the annual total. The promotional Basic rate works the same way: $75.99 for a year is about $6.33 per month, not necessarily a $6.33 monthly charge.
Before paying, confirm the term and total in the order summary. That is especially important when the marketing page emphasizes a monthly-equivalent discount.
Promotional price versus renewal price
The currently listed introductory annual prices are substantially below the standard rates, particularly for Plus and Prime. Unless the checkout terms say otherwise, do not budget on the assumption that the first-year offer will continue when the plan renews.

The difference is an illustration using the listed standard price, not a promise of a particular renewal charge. Carbonite’s product terms describe automatic renewal and allow fees to change before a renewal term, subject to applicable notice requirements. Review the renewal amount and renewal date in your account or order details before purchasing.
How much does Carbonite cost for multiple computers?
Carbonite’s support documentation says each computer requires its own Safe subscription. That makes the planning calculation simple: multiply the plan’s annual price by the number of computers. These examples use standard pricing and do not imply a household bundle or multi-computer discount.

Can a longer subscription lower the price?
Carbonite’s comparison chart lists two- and three-year totals that reduce the effective annual cost. The trade-off is a larger upfront payment and a longer commitment, with less flexibility if your needs or the service’s pricing changes.

These totals reflect the listed multi-year discounts—5% for two years and 10% for three years—divided by the full term to calculate monthly equivalents. Confirm that the term and price appear in your checkout before relying on them.
Carbonite small-business pricing
Carbonite Safe Pro is a separate product family for business endpoint and server backup, not simply a personal plan with more computers. The business pricing page showed Core at $287.99 per year, or about $24.00 per month equivalent, for up to 25 computers. Its plan configurations distinguish server coverage: Power includes one server plus up to 25 computers, while Ultimate includes unlimited servers plus up to 25 computers.
Do not infer that Power and Ultimate have the same final price merely because the pricing interface displays a similar monthly-equivalent headline. Carbonite’s business page requires plan configuration, and the amount in the order summary is the figure to verify. The comparison materials list storage tiers of 250 GB for Core and 500 GB for Power and Ultimate, with additional storage listed at $99 per 100 GB per year. Check the business pricing page and business backup details for current configurations and add-ons.

- Taxes: The listed plan price is not necessarily the checkout total; taxes are calculated separately.
- Additional computers: Each computer generally needs its own Safe subscription, so the cost can rise quickly for a household or small team.
- External drives: One external hard drive is included with Plus and Prime, subject to device and connection requirements. Files on a disconnected drive are not available to back up.
- Courier recovery: Prime makes courier recovery available, but physical delivery may carry an additional fee.
- Business storage: Additional storage is listed at $99 per 100 GB per year for Safe Pro plans; confirm the amount for the selected configuration.
- Renewal: A promotion may end after the initial term, and renewal rates can change. Check the renewal terms and account notices.
- Compatibility: Carbonite’s comparison materials may show legacy minimum operating-system references, while its support guidance refers to current Windows and Mac systems. Do not treat an old version listed in a comparison table as a guarantee of present-day support. Verify your exact operating system in current support documentation before buying.
Is Carbonite worth the price?
Carbonite’s clearest value proposition is unlimited backup for one computer, with a straightforward annual price. It can make sense if you have one main computer, substantial data and a preference for a fixed subscription rather than tracking a storage allowance. Plus or Prime may be worthwhile when you specifically need the included external-drive, video-backup or antivirus features; do not upgrade simply because a promotional discount looks large.

It is less compelling if you need to protect several computers under one low-cost household account, want a true month-to-month commitment, or need a general cloud-storage and collaboration service. “Unlimited” does not remove the per-computer subscription requirement, and the service should not be treated as a file-sync replacement.
Compare the models carefully. IDrive’s current pricing page lists capacity-based options, including a 5 TB Personal plan shown at $11.99 per month on its monthly display, and its Personal plan supports multiple computers under one user. That can be attractive for several devices if the storage cap fits your needs; Carbonite may suit someone who values unlimited backup for one computer instead. Compare the current terms at IDrive’s pricing page. Backblaze is another computer-backup service readers may compare, but confirm its current price, device limits and billing terms directly with the vendor before choosing; no current Backblaze price is stated here.
How to avoid an unexpected renewal
- Before checkout, note the annual term, amount due now, renewal date and stated renewal price or terms.
- Check your Carbonite account’s renewal settings and turn off automatic renewal if you do not want another term charged automatically. Carbonite’s automatic-renewal guidance explains the account process.
- Save a reminder before the renewal date. If you disable automatic renewal but still want continuous backup, renew manually before coverage expires.
- Before cancelling or allowing a plan to expire, restore or independently copy any files you need to keep. Carbonite says backed-up data is removed after expiration according to its applicable policy.
Cancellation does not generally mean a refund for unused time in the current term. Carbonite describes a refund process for renewal purchases requested within 30 days, but that is not a guaranteed refund; review the conditions and contact support. Its support page says data removal occurs after 30 or 60 days of expiration depending on product or situation, so do not rely on continued access after a plan ends. Read the current refund and cancellation information before acting.
