The headline was accurate when the HONOR Magic7 Lite launched in the UK on 15 January 2025: the 8GB/512GB phone cost £399, and eligible buyers could claim HONOR Earbuds Open advertised at £149. It was a limited-time promotion, not an ongoing part of the deal. The original retailer purchase windows ended in February 2025, so the Earbuds Open offer should not be treated as available now.
The phone’s lasting appeal is its large battery, generous storage and durability features—not high-end gaming or a versatile camera system. Here is what the launch deal involved, what the £149 figure did and did not mean, and what buyers should check today.

The phone was offered through EE, Virgin Media O2, Three, Vodafone, Argos, Very and Currys. Retailer participation and promotional dates were not identical. Launch coverage reported the retailer-specific windows and £399 configuration.

- Three: qualifying purchases from 15 January to 18 February 2025.
- O2: qualifying purchases from 15 January to 19 February 2025.
- EE and Vodafone: qualifying purchases from 15 January to 20 February 2025.
Those are purchase windows, not a guarantee that every buyer automatically received earbuds. Vodafone described the Earbuds Open as a gift customers could claim through HONOR after buying the phone. Buyers therefore needed an eligible retailer and purchase, and had to follow the applicable redemption terms. The exact claim deadline and documentation requirements should be checked in the promotion terms for the purchase in question; do not assume the purchase deadline and claim deadline were the same. Promotional stock could also be limited. Vodafone’s announcement confirms the claim-based offer and its 20 February purchase deadline.

Network deals need a separate cost check. A low upfront payment or monthly figure does not by itself tell you the total cost: include the handset payment, airtime over the minimum term, any annual price increases and any redemption conditions. Vodafone’s announcement, for example, described 0% APR financing alongside annual price-increase terms.
Was £149 a real saving?
HONOR and participating promotion coverage advertised the Earbuds Open at £149. That was a stated product value, not £149 in cash off the phone. The phone still cost £399, and the gift depended on qualifying for and completing the promotion claim.

Adding the advertised figures produces £548 of phone-and-earbuds value for a £399 purchase. Subtracting £149 gives an illustrative £250 “effective” phone cost only if you wanted the earbuds and genuinely valued them at their stated price. It was not the handset’s sale price, a cash rebate or proof that every buyer saved £149 compared with ordinary market prices. If you would not have bought open-style earbuds, their practical value to you could be much lower; resale value is also not assured.

Battery, display and storage were the clearest strengths
The phone has a 6,600mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 66W wired HONOR SuperCharge. HONOR quotes up to 48.4 hours of music playback and 25.8 hours of online video playback, but those are manufacturer figures under its stated conditions, not a promise of a particular number of days for every user. In its review, Tech Advisor reported two full days with moderate use and said lighter use could potentially stretch to three. Heavy gaming, navigation, mobile data and screen brightness can change endurance substantially. The phone does not support wireless charging, according to that review.

Its 6.78-inch AMOLED display has a 2700 × 1224 resolution and an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. That gives you a large, sharp screen with smoother scrolling than a standard 60Hz panel. HONOR also promotes eye-comfort and peak-brightness features; treat manufacturer brightness claims as specifications rather than independent measurements. The 512GB internal storage is generous at this price, but there is no microSD card expansion, so the built-in capacity is what you have.
The cameras and processor call for realistic expectations
The rear setup pairs a 108MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 5MP ultrawide camera; the front camera is 16MP. The main camera can produce capable results in good light, but the megapixel count does not make it a flagship camera. Tech Advisor criticised the ultrawide’s detail and colour consistency. If you frequently shoot landscapes or group scenes with the wider lens, that is a meaningful compromise.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor and 8GB RAM are suited to everyday tasks such as messaging, browsing, streaming and ordinary apps. They do not make this a performance-first phone: demanding games and heavy multitasking are better reasons to compare alternatives. The 5G support, large storage and main-camera OIS are useful features, but they do not cancel out the processor’s limits.

Durability and software
HONOR advertises SGS-certified five-star drop resistance, testing for drops of up to 2 metres, and IP64 dust and water resistance. These are not guarantees against damage in every fall. IP64 is protection against dust and splashes, not submersion; keep the phone out of water. A case can still make sense, and accidental damage may not be covered by a standard warranty. The Magic7 Lite launched with Android 14 and MagicOS 8.0. Features included Magic Capsule, Magic Portal and Parallel Space. Review coverage noted pre-installed apps and found some AI-branded functions limited or non-essential, so the experience may not suit people who prefer a particularly clean Android interface. Tech Advisor reported HONOR’s claim of five years of OS and security updates; support commitments can depend on the applicable market policy, so check HONOR’s current UK support information rather than assuming the launch review alone establishes the remaining update period.

Do not buy it on the assumption that the 2025 Earbuds Open promotion is still running. As checked in August 2026, HONOR UK’s buying page showed a different promotion: a free HONOR CHOICE Earbuds X7i while stocks last, alongside discounted pricing. The page displayed £299.99 after a £100 discount and a code-based price from £349.99, but its promotional messages were inconsistent. Check the selected model, colour, voucher eligibility, gift stock and final payable price at checkout. The X7i is a different earbuds model, not the original Earbuds Open. Check HONOR UK’s current Magic7 Lite offer and terms.
At a current price, judge the handset itself rather than carrying over the expired £149 valuation. It makes most sense if you prioritise battery endurance, a large smooth display and 512GB of storage, and are comfortable with MagicOS. Compare first if you want strong gaming performance, a better ultrawide camera, wireless charging, a compact phone or a cleaner interface.
For alternatives, the Google Pixel 8a, Samsung Galaxy A35 5G and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus are comparison candidates, not verified current-price recommendations. Compare the exact storage configuration, support, camera needs and total cost rather than assuming any one is cheaper or better today.
