Google announced three web-payment features on August 12, 2025: reward details for supported cards in Chrome autofill, more buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) choices at checkout, and a test that helps people compare and start international transfers from Google Wallet online or Google Search. They are not one universal Google Pay rollout. Each feature has different product, provider, country and timing limits.
The announcement is the latest status this article can establish; it does not prove worldwide availability in 2026. Treat “coming soon” and “testing” as launch language unless the option appears in your own Chrome, Wallet or Search experience.

1. Chrome can show card rewards at checkout
When you reach an online checkout in Chrome, the autofill menu can show saved payment cards. For supported cards, Google said Chrome would add relevant reward or benefit details, covering more than 100 U.S. credit cards. You can compare the displayed information and select the card that appears most useful for that purchase.

This is a reminder tool, not a financial optimizer. A displayed percentage or benefit may depend on merchant-category coding, enrollment or activation, rotating categories, spending caps, redemption value and issuer terms. Annual fees, foreign-transaction fees and your own valuation of points can change which card is actually best. A merchant’s processor may also classify a purchase differently than expected, and some saved cards may show no reward information.
Google previously offered a narrower Chrome card-benefit experience for selected American Express and Capital One cardholders, illustrating that coverage has expanded incrementally rather than becoming universal (Google’s earlier explanation).

2. Chrome adds more buy-now-pay-later choices
Google named Affirm and Zip as the initial BNPL providers available through Chrome autofill in the U.S. Klarna, Afterpay and additional providers were described as coming later. The aim is to reduce steps: instead of leaving checkout to find a financing service or retyping details, an eligible option can appear in the browser’s payment flow.
Chrome support does not make every merchant accept every provider. The merchant, cart, product category, location, device and your provider account all matter. You may still be redirected for identity or eligibility checks, and approval can be for less than the full order.

BNPL is financing, not a free discount. Read the provider’s total repayment amount, interest or fees, due dates and late-payment consequences before confirming. Returns and refunds can require coordination between the merchant and provider, and a payment plan may remain scheduled until the refund is processed. Google’s announcement gives no universal APR or fee figure; terms are provider- and transaction-specific. See Affirm, Zip, Klarna and Afterpay for current terms.
3. Google is testing simpler international money transfers
Google said it was testing an experience in Google Wallet online and Google Search. A user could search for a currency exchange rate or open Wallet, review fee and exchange-rate information from Ria Money Transfer, Xe and Wise, and then send money through a selected provider.

The initial corridors were transfers from the U.S. to India, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines. Google identified Stripe as processing the funding transaction. That does not make Google the remittance provider: the named provider controls the transfer, identity checks, final quote, delivery time, cancellation rules, supported currencies and recipient payout method.
Compare the amount the recipient will actually receive, not just the advertised fee. An exchange-rate spread can outweigh a low headline charge, and rates can change between a Search result and confirmation. A corridor may be unsupported, a quote may expire, or compliance review may delay delivery. Check the final provider checkout at Ria, Xe or Wise.

Google did not specify a minimum Chrome version, an exact settings path, feature fees or a global rollout percentage. The relevant surfaces are Chrome autofill for the first two features, and Wallet online/Search for transfers—not a new checkout button that every merchant must integrate. Merchants may still need their own provider integrations.
Before you use any of these features
- Cards: Confirm the reward’s category, activation, cap and redemption rules; compare the real value for you.
- BNPL: Make sure the repayment schedule fits your budget and understand interest, fees, late-payment and refund rules.
- Transfers: Verify corridor, currency, payout method and identity requirements, then compare total recipient amount and delivery time.
- Availability: If an option is missing, check merchant support, location, cart eligibility and account status rather than assuming Chrome is broken.
The practical takeaway
Google is moving payment assistance into the browser and Search: more context when choosing a card, easier access to financing and a simpler way to discover remittance providers. The financial relationship remains with the card issuer, BNPL company or money-transfer service. Uneven availability—and the difference between an announcement and a completed rollout—is the key caveat.
