The unlocked Google Pixel 9 was reported at $636 on Amazon on April 18, 2025, down from a stated $799 reference price. That was about $163 off, or roughly 20%. But that price is historical: it has not been verified as a live offer, so check the current listing and checkout total before treating it as a deal.

The original deal report described $636 as the lowest price in months since Black Friday and also mentioned a certified-refurbished model at $569.97. That price-history description belongs to the report at the time; it is not evidence that either offer is still available. Google’s U.S. product page displays the Pixel 9 from $799, but that is a Google Store price signal, not confirmation of Amazon’s current price.
So the useful question is not simply whether the Pixel 9 once sold for $636, but whether a current listing offers the same price for a new, unlocked phone with a trustworthy seller and acceptable warranty and return terms.
What the Pixel 9 offers
The standard Pixel 9—not the Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL—has a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with a 60–120Hz refresh rate, Google’s Tensor G4 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. Its rear cameras are a 50MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and Macro Focus. Google lists up to 8x Super Res Zoom, which is not the same as a dedicated optical telephoto camera.

The phone also has a 4,700mAh typical-capacity battery, IP68 dust and water resistance, Wi-Fi 7, and dual-SIM support via a physical nano-SIM and eSIM. Google advertises 24-plus-hour battery life; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test result. Google says its 45W USB-C charger can charge the phone to up to 55% in about 30 minutes, but the charger is sold separately. The box includes a USB-C cable and SIM tool.
Google commits to seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. The Pixel 9 launched with Android 14. That long support commitment is a meaningful reason to consider an older model, though it does not guarantee that every future feature will arrive or work identically in every region.

These specifications, including the correct processor, are listed on Google’s Pixel 9 specifications page. One correction matters: the April 2025 deal coverage identified a Tensor G3, but Google’s official specifications say the Pixel 9 uses Tensor G4.
What “AI-powered” means on this phone
Pixel 9 AI is not one feature or a promise that everything happens offline. Google lists Gemini as the built-in assistant, Gemini Live, Gemini apps, Gemini Nano, Pixel Screenshots, Circle to Search, Live Translate, Call Assist, and photo tools such as Magic Editor. Magic Editor can support edits such as moving or removing objects and generative expansion or reframing.

Those capabilities combine on-device functions, cloud-connected Google services, and camera-editing tools. Availability and behavior may depend on software version, language, region, account, and Google’s service policies. Do not assume that every feature is permanently included, works without a connection, or is exclusive to this model. Google’s Pixel 9 product page describes the advertised features.
Before buying: verify the listing, not just the headline
Retail search results can group several configurations and conditions under the same phone name. Before placing an order, check the product page and final checkout screen for:

- Condition: Is it new, open-box, renewed, used, or certified refurbished? A lower price may apply only to a non-new device.
- Seller: Confirm who sells and ships the phone. Check the seller’s reputation and the listing’s return policy, especially for marketplace offers.
- Storage and color: Verify the exact capacity and finish you want. Do not assume the headline price applies to every configuration.
- Unlocked status: Confirm that the specific unit is unlocked rather than tied to a carrier or activation requirement. An unlocked phone still may not support every carrier’s bands or features; check the model and your carrier, particularly for an import or smaller provider.
- Warranty: Check whether Google’s normal manufacturer warranty applies and who handles support. Refurbished or marketplace listings may have different coverage.
- Discount conditions: Look for a coupon, membership requirement, trade-in, carrier activation, or other condition. Make sure the discount appears in the amount you will actually pay.
- Final cost: Compare the checkout total after tax and shipping, not just the pre-tax headline. Factor in a charger only if you do not already have a compatible USB-C charger.
Google says unlocked Pixel phones let buyers choose a compatible carrier or plan. That flexibility is useful, but it is not a guarantee of identical service on every network. Consult the official specifications and your carrier’s compatibility information.
Is $636 a good price for a Pixel 9?
At roughly one-fifth below the $799 reference price, $636 would be attractive for a new, unlocked Pixel 9 with a standard manufacturer-backed warranty if a newer Pixel is not available for only a modest premium. The strongest reasons to buy are Google’s camera processing, a smooth high-refresh-rate display, 12GB of RAM for the Pixel feature set, and the unusually long stated update commitment.

There are important trade-offs. The standard Pixel 9 has no dedicated telephoto camera; the Pixel 9 Pro adds a telephoto lens and 16GB of RAM. The Pixel 9 is also an older generation by 2026, so a newer model may offer better performance, modem efficiency, camera hardware, or battery life. Tensor G4 provides the hardware foundation for Google’s Pixel features, but buyers seeking the fastest gaming performance should compare real-world reviews of current alternatives rather than assume it matches the top chips from Qualcomm or Apple.
Compare the live price against a newer standard Pixel before buying. Consider a Pixel 9 Pro if optical zoom or more RAM matters, and compare Samsung Galaxy S-series or iPhone models if performance, zoom, customization, services, or ecosystem fit are priorities. Their current prices have not been established here, so make the comparison using prices available at the time you shop. A refurbished Pixel 9 may cost less, but weigh the savings against condition, warranty, and return protections.
Who should buy—and who should pass
Consider it at about $636 if the listing checks out as new and unlocked, you prioritize Google’s camera software and Android experience, you want long stated support, and you do not need optical telephoto zoom. Also make sure the final total remains compelling after tax, shipping, and any required membership.

Verdict
The Pixel 9’s reported $636 Amazon price was a meaningful historical discount, but it should not be presented as a current deal without checking the live listing. If you find it again at about $636 for a new, unlocked phone with trustworthy warranty and return coverage, it can be a strong camera-and-support-focused buy—provided a newer Pixel is not similarly priced and the missing telephoto camera is not a deal-breaker.
