Google reduced the official India MRPs of the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a and Pixel 7a on August 14, 2024, one day after unveiling the Pixel 9 series. The largest reduction was ₹7,000 on both Pixel 8 Pro storage options. These are historical MRPs—not current August 2026 prices or guaranteed checkout prices.
Pixel price cuts in India: old and revised MRPs
The following prices and reductions were reported on August 14, 2024. The report described them as the first official price cuts for these models since launch; that characterization is attributed to the report, rather than to an archived Google price announcement. The Pixel 8 Pro had the largest rupee reduction: ₹7,000 on either listed capacity. The Pixel 8 reduction depended on storage—₹4,000 for 128GB and ₹5,000 for 256GB—so “₹5,000 off the Pixel 8” does not apply to both versions. The Pixel 8a fell by ₹3,000, while the Pixel 7a fell by ₹2,000.
Why the prices changed
Google unveiled the Pixel 9 series at its Made by Google event on August 13, 2024; the reported MRP reductions followed the next day. The move gave the outgoing generation lower official list prices as its successor arrived. Google’s India specifications page identifies the Pixel 9 as a Tensor G4 phone with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Check Google’s Pixel 9 specifications. Current product pages reflect later availability and pricing, however, and should not be used to infer the Pixel 9’s August 2024 launch price.

What an MRP cut does—and does not—tell you
An official MRP reduction is different from a temporary retailer sale, a bank-card offer, an exchange bonus, a coupon or a discount on refurbished or imported stock. It lowers the published list price; it does not promise that a particular phone was in stock at that price or that it was the lowest price a buyer could get.
The August 2024 report said the phones were available through Flipkart for less than their standard MRP and expected additional discounts during that October’s Big Billion Days sale. That was an expectation at the time, not a guaranteed offer. Neither statement establishes current stock or pricing.

A checkout total can vary with seller, storage and colour availability, card eligibility, coupon terms, exchange valuation, delivery charges and EMI conditions. Before paying, compare the final amount—not just the crossed-out price—and verify the listing’s seller, condition, return terms, exact capacity and India-market warranty. Check whether a bank benefit is an instant discount or a later cashback, and treat exchange value separately from the phone’s price.

There is no universal winner: the right comparison is the final price for the exact variant against the features and support period you value. The following is a way to weigh the generations, not a claim that any 2024 MRP remains available today.

- Pixel 7a: Consider it if the lowest entry price is the priority and you want an affordable Pixel with Google’s camera software. It is older hardware, with fewer premium features and a shorter remaining support window than newer models.
- Pixel 8a: It may suit buyers who want a newer affordable model than the 7a and value its stated seven-year update eligibility. Google describes that period as beginning when the phone first became available from the Google Store in the US—not from the date an individual buys it. See Google’s Pixel 8a product information. The A-series price comes with less-premium camera hardware and materials than the flagship models.
- Pixel 8: Compare it with the 8a if their actual checkout prices are close. The Pixel 8 offers more premium hardware, including wireless charging, but the Pixel 9 brings a newer design and Tensor G4 platform. Whether the older flagship is better value depends on the price gap and which features matter to you.
- Pixel 8 Pro: Consider it if a telephoto camera, larger display and premium features matter more than having the latest generation. Its discounted historical MRP could have made it worth comparing with a base Pixel 9, but “Pro” alone does not make it the better buy: weigh the final price against the newer phone’s processor and longer remaining support runway.
- Pixel 9: It is the clearer fit if you want the newest generation, Tensor G4 and newer features, or if promotions make the price gap small. Google’s current India product page confirms the model’s presence in its catalogue but is not an archive of its 2024 price. View Google’s Pixel 9 page.
Availability and warranty matter with older stock
A published MRP does not establish that every storage size or colour was continuously available. Older models may be sold as clearance stock, and a low listing price can also reflect an import, an open-box device or a refurbished phone. Confirm that the listing is for a new Indian retail unit and establish who provides the warranty; do not assume an imported device has the same manufacturer support as an India-market model.
Google describes the Google Store as an authorised retailer and lists exchange and financing options, but its current catalogue is not evidence that discontinued or older variants are available there now. Google Store India information and the current phone catalogue can help confirm what Google offers at the time you check.

Bottom line for buyers
The August 2024 cuts made the outgoing Pixel range cheaper on paper, led by ₹7,000 off the Pixel 8 Pro. They are useful historical benchmarks, not live deals. If shopping now, compare verified, in-stock Indian listings and their final checkout totals with the price and support runway of newer Pixels; buy the older model only when its specific hardware advantages justify the savings.
