Google first announced Gemini Enterprise on October 9, 2025, as a central place for employees to use AI with company information. The offering has since grown into two related products: the employee-facing Gemini Enterprise app and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, which gives technical teams tools to build and operate AI agents. For a business evaluating it, the key financial point is that the app has per-seat starting prices, while agent-platform usage can add separate consumption charges.
Gemini Enterprise is not simply a new name for the consumer Gemini chatbot or a Google Workspace add-on. It is Google Cloud’s enterprise AI offering: a workplace app for employees paired with a technical platform for creating, deploying, and governing AI agents. That distinction matters when estimating costs, planning a pilot, and deciding which teams would actually use the product.
Google introduced Gemini Enterprise on October 9, 2025. At Google Cloud Next on April 22, 2026, it expanded the portfolio and introduced the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform as an evolution of Vertex AI. Google’s original announcement and its April 2026 overview describe those as separate milestones, not one launch.

The app is the employee-facing entry point; the Agent Platform is the technical infrastructure. A company might license the app for staff, use the platform to build custom agents, or do both. Do not assume every platform feature or model is included in an app seat subscription.

What Google announced—and what changed later
The October 2025 announcement presented Gemini Enterprise as a “front door” for workplace AI: a single place to reach Google AI models, connect organizational information, and use or create agents. The aim was to move beyond isolated chat assistants toward tools that can retrieve relevant company context and carry out multi-step tasks.
In April 2026, Google broadened the proposition. The Gemini Enterprise app became a place to discover, create, share, and run agents, while the Agent Platform brought model selection, agent development, integrations, orchestration, operations, security, and governance into a developer-oriented environment. Google describes that platform as an evolution of Vertex AI—not evidence that Vertex AI has been shut down or that every existing customer must migrate. Check current Google Cloud documentation for the status of specific APIs, workflows, regions, and billing before planning a migration.
What employees and developers can do
Google describes the employee app as supporting enterprise search and analysis, generation of text and other content, access to prebuilt agents, and creation of custom agents through a no-code Agent Designer. Its examples include analyzing finance information for budgeting, consolidation, risk, and opportunity analysis. Those are intended use cases, not guarantees that the system will produce reliable forecasts or remove the need for financial review.

Google advertises connectors to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, HubSpot, Jira, Salesforce, SAP, and other business sources. A listed connector does not necessarily mean every feature works with every source, that the integration can make changes, or that it is available in every edition and region. Before relying on a connection, establish what it can read or write, how source permissions are applied, how often information is indexed, and what data-retention and residency rules apply.
For technical teams, the Agent Platform is intended to support agents built with Google’s Agent Development Kit as well as third-party agents. It adds a place to connect systems, deploy workloads, coordinate multi-step activity, and apply operational and governance controls. Google’s model catalog and availability can change; access through the developer platform should not be treated as proof that a model is included in every employee-app subscription.
Published prices and the cost beyond a seat
Google’s public Gemini Enterprise page showed these U.S.-dollar starting prices when the research was checked on August 18, 2026. Confirm current pricing, currency, taxes, and contract terms with Google before budgeting.

The public page groups Standard and Plus at the same visible starting-price signal; it does not establish a separate price for each. Google advertises a 30-day trial for Business and Standard/Plus. The official product page is the place to confirm current edition details and buying terms.
The seat price is not necessarily the total cost of an agent deployment. The Agent Platform has consumption-based charges for items such as compute, storage, model tokens, and operations. Google’s platform pricing page lists, for example, Agent Compute at $0.085 per vCPU-hour for certain runtime and gateway usage and Agent Storage at $0.30 per GiB-month for services including Memory Bank and Sessions. It also states that Agent Gateway billing became effective July 13, 2026; Semantic Governance Policy billing began August 1, 2026; and Memory Bank and Sessions billing are scheduled to begin September 1, 2026. Charges and dates are feature-specific and can change.
A realistic business budget may therefore need separate lines for app seats, model inference, agent runtime and storage, data indexing, API calls, connected-system charges, monitoring and security, and implementation. Ask whether the intended workflow needs the Agent Platform at all: a team using the app for search and drafting may have a different cost profile from a team running production agents that repeatedly call tools and models. Set budgets, quotas, alerts, and rate limits before broad rollout.

Security and compliance: features are not a blanket guarantee
Google lists centralized agent and policy controls, Model Armor for screening unsafe or malicious interactions, VPC Service Controls, customer-managed encryption keys, Access Transparency, data-residency controls, and support for HIPAA- and FedRAMP High-related workloads in relevant circumstances. It also describes sovereign data-boundary options for higher editions. These are vendor-stated capabilities, not an assurance that any deployment automatically complies with a law or contract.
Before using sensitive financial, health, or customer data, verify the exact edition, service scope, region, contract, logging and retention settings, identity controls, and connected services involved. Compliance boundaries may not extend automatically to every third-party system connected to the product.
Business case: where the economics may work
Gemini Enterprise may be worth evaluating when a company already relies on Google Cloud or Workspace, has information spread across multiple systems, and wants a governed way to let staff search that information or use agents. Potential uses include internal knowledge search, cross-system research, drafting, developer assistance, and controlled workflow support. For finance teams, it might help gather and summarize information used in budgeting or analysis; a human should still validate source data, assumptions, and consequential recommendations.

The financial case depends on measurable time saved or better service, not on the number of agents created. A pilot should select a narrow workflow, record its current labor and error costs, define success measures, and compare those results with all relevant licensing and consumption costs. Include time spent on integration, data cleanup, access reviews, agent testing, and ongoing oversight; these can be material even when they do not appear on the per-seat price card.

- Excess permissions: A connected agent should receive only the access it needs. A connector is not a reason to grant broad write privileges.
- Prompt injection: Malicious instructions embedded in documents or websites may try to manipulate an agent. Treat retrieved content as untrusted and test protections.
- Incorrect or stale information: Indexing delays, incomplete records, and model errors can produce confident but wrong answers. Require citations or source checks where appropriate.
- Unintended actions and retry loops: A mistaken tool choice or repeated attempt can alter records or increase usage. Require approval for consequential actions and define rollback and escalation procedures.
- Unmanaged agent sprawl: No-code creation can generate duplicates, unclear ownership, conflicting instructions, and untracked costs. Keep an inventory with named owners, approvals, review dates, and a retirement process.
- Unpredictable consumption: Long-running agents or frequent model and tool calls can create bills beyond seat fees. Test with realistic workloads and monitor usage from the start.

How to assess it against alternatives
Compare platforms by the systems your organization uses, connector behavior, identity and governance, available models, deployment needs, and the full cost—not by feature counts alone. Microsoft 365 Copilot may be a natural comparison for organizations centered on Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Entra ID. Amazon Bedrock is relevant for AWS-standardized teams seeking managed AI infrastructure and model choice. Salesforce Agentforce is worth evaluating where CRM and sales or service workflows dominate. OpenAI’s business products and API services may fit teams prioritizing general-purpose enterprise assistants or custom API-based applications. Each vendor has its own packaging and consumption model; obtain current quotes and assess the specific workflow rather than assuming the products are interchangeable.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify the workflow and the employees who need app seats; do not license broadly before demonstrating a use case.
- Confirm connector availability, permissions, read/write abilities, indexing behavior, and data residency for the exact systems involved.
- Decide whether the employee app alone is enough or whether development teams need Agent Platform capabilities.
- Model both recurring seat fees and usage charges, including compute, tokens, storage, APIs, and connected services.
- Set least-privilege access, human approval for high-impact actions, logging, testing, and a rollback path.
- Validate regional, contractual, and compliance requirements with Google for the precise deployment.
- Run a limited pilot with defined cost and outcome measures, then expand only if the measured value justifies the full operating expense.
Verdict
Google’s announcement has matured from a workplace AI front door into a broader app-and-platform strategy for enterprise agents. Gemini Enterprise is most plausible for organizations that want employee AI access and governed agents across Google Cloud, Workspace, and connected business data. Its headline seat prices are useful starting points, not a complete deployment estimate: production agent usage can add variable platform costs, and safe operation still requires integration work, permission discipline, human oversight, and cost controls.
