The Galaxy S24 FE’s US price leak was substantially right: it put the 128GB model at $649, about $20 above the Galaxy S23 FE’s $629.99 launch price. Samsung confirmed a US starting price of $649.99 on September 26, 2024. That was a modest increase, not a dramatic one—but it put the value-focused FE line closer to discounted flagship phones.
What the Galaxy S24 FE price leak said
Reports published on September 22–23, 2024, said the US Galaxy S24 FE would start at $649 for 128GB. SamMobile attributed the report to information from SmartPrix and leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer. The figure was a pre-launch report, not yet an official price; it was later borne out by Samsung’s announcement. SamMobile’s leak report and Android Authority’s contemporaneous coverage described the reported US price.
The $649 figure referred to the entry-level 128GB configuration. It should not be confused with the price of every storage option, or with a carrier’s promotional price, which may depend on a trade-in, plan, or installment agreement.

This is a comparison of the US 128GB launch prices. The $649 leak and Samsung’s $649.99 confirmed price are not meaningfully different claims: one rounded to the nearest dollar. Samsung’s announcement confirmed the $649.99 starting price, while its US MSRP listing showed $649.99 for 8GB/128GB and $709.99 for 8GB/256GB. Samsung confirmed the price on September 26, 2024
Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 FE on September 26, 2024, confirming the US starting price at $649.99. The phone was positioned as a way to get more of the Galaxy S24 experience at a lower price than the flagship models. Samsung’s global announcement said orders would begin October 3; announcement, ordering, and general availability are separate milestones, and carrier or retailer timing could vary.
What the extra $20 came with
The S24 FE brought a larger 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, compared with the S23 FE’s 6.4-inch display. Other headline specifications included Samsung’s Exynos 2400e processor in the US model, a 4,700mAh typical-capacity battery, and a rear camera system with a 50MP wide camera, 12MP ultrawide, and 8MP 3x telephoto camera. It also included Galaxy AI features and IP68 water and dust resistance. Samsung’s specification announcement lists the major hardware and support details.

Software support was a particularly meaningful part of the pitch for someone planning to keep a phone for years: Samsung promised seven generations of Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is more precise than saying simply “seven years of updates,” because operating-system upgrades and security updates are distinct commitments.

Those improvements help explain the broader positioning, but Samsung did not establish that any one feature caused the $20 increase. Nor does a longer feature list automatically make the phone a better value for every buyer. The more relevant question is whether the screen, camera, support period, and Samsung software are worth the price to you.

Trade-offs behind the higher price
- US chip choice: The US S24 FE used the Exynos 2400e. Chipsets vary across markets and can shape buyer expectations, but the processor name alone does not prove how the phone will perform in every game, workload, or battery-use pattern.
- 8GB of RAM: Both listed US storage configurations had 8GB, while higher-tier Galaxy S24 models offered more memory.
- Charging and size: Charging was relatively modest compared with some Android competitors, and the larger display came with a larger, heavier phone than the S23 FE. Check the specific charging specifications and whether the size suits you rather than assuming the larger model is an upgrade in every respect.
- Flagship overlap: At $649.99, the S24 FE was close enough to discounted flagship pricing that a sale on a Galaxy S24 or S24+ could change the comparison.
These are reasons to compare alternatives, not proof that the S24 FE was a poor phone. Buyers who prefer a compact device, prioritize fast charging or maximum gaming performance, or want more memory at the base price may find its launch MSRP harder to justify. People who value Samsung’s One UI, long support, a telephoto camera, IP68 protection, and a large screen may weigh the trade-offs differently.
Judge the offer, not just the MSRP
The $649.99 figure is the historical US launch MSRP, not a claim about what the phone costs now. At launch, Samsung trade-in credits, bundles, carrier deals, and temporary discounts could materially change the amount a buyer paid. Compare the actual total cost and conditions, not just the largest advertised savings.
- Compare the unlocked price with the carrier installment price.
- Check whether a trade-in credit requires a particular device, condition, or plan.
- Account for any required activation, service-plan term, or bundle purchase.
- Compare the 128GB model at $649.99 with the 256GB model at $709.99; the extra storage cost $60 at MSRP.
- Check whether a competing flagship is genuinely close in price after its own conditions, rather than comparing an unconditional MSRP with a conditional promotion.
The extra $60 for 256GB may be worth considering if you expect to keep the phone through much of its long support period and store plenty of photos, video, or apps locally. That is a personal storage trade-off, not a guarantee that the higher tier is the better deal.
Was the $20 increase worth it?
Numerically, the increase was small—about 3.2% over the S23 FE’s 128GB launch MSRP. Strategically, it mattered because it nudged the FE closer to flagship territory and made value comparisons more important. The larger display, updated processor, Galaxy AI, telephoto camera, and extended support strengthened the package, but they do not settle the value question by themselves.

At an uncompromised $649.99, the S24 FE made the most sense for buyers who specifically wanted Samsung’s software and feature mix and planned to keep the phone for years. It looked more compelling when a genuine sale, useful trade-in, or bundle reduced the effective cost. For buyers shopping today, compare current offers and the newer Galaxy S25 FE rather than treating a 2024 launch MSRP as today’s price; Samsung’s S25 FE buy page is one relevant point of comparison.
