For U.S. shoppers, the clearest low-upfront-cost Galaxy A offers identified on August 16, 2026, were carrier promotions for the Galaxy A17 5G—not confirmed unlocked sale prices. Verizon’s indexed page listed it from $6.94 per month; an AT&T promotion sheet distributed through Walmart listed $0 for eligible new lines and $0.76 per month for eligible upgrades. Both require checking the plan, credit terms, fees, and lock conditions before comparing them with an unlocked phone. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP file lists the A17 128GB at $199.99 as an unlocked reference price, not a guaranteed current retail price.

Which Galaxy A deal should you choose?
For the lowest upfront cost: A17 carrier or prepaid offers
The A17 is the clearest candidate when minimizing what you pay at the counter matters most. But a small device payment—or a $0 device price—does not show what the required service costs. Take the offer only after confirming that the plan and line type suit you even without the phone promotion.

For an unlocked budget phone: compare the A17 with the A37
The A17 is the more defensible budget pick when its current unlocked price is near or below Samsung’s $199.99 reference for the 128GB version. Consider the A37 if the actual price difference feels worthwhile for the features and support you value. The available pricing evidence does not establish a live A37 price or a fixed price gap at which upgrading becomes worthwhile, so compare the same storage capacity at checkout.
For a higher-tier A-series phone: consider the A57
The A57 is the current higher-tier option among the three models highlighted on Samsung’s U.S. page. Its value depends on its live price relative to the A37 and to phones outside the A series. No verified current A57 price is established here, so do not assume an indexed listing or a category discount is its checkout price.

For an older A36 or A56: buy only at a meaningful clearance price
The March 2026 Samsung MSRP file marks the A26, A36, and A56 entries EOL. That label does not prove every store has stopped selling them or establish their software-support status. Treat an older model as a clearance candidate only when the discount is substantial and the seller confirms it is a new U.S. model with a full U.S. warranty. Compare its remaining suitability and seller terms with the newer A37 or A57 before paying.
Unlocked price versus carrier promotion
Unlocked: pay more upfront for flexibility
An unlocked purchase has no required carrier plan, makes switching networks simpler, and shows the device cost without waiting for monthly credits. It can also simplify resale and returns. The trade-off is a larger upfront payment, and retailer listings still need checking: “compatible with” a network does not necessarily mean factory unlocked, and an imported model may differ in warranty, network bands, or eSIM support.
Carrier financing: lower device payments, more conditions
Carrier financing can reduce the monthly device payment or offset it with bill credits, which can suit someone already committed to that carrier. Credits may be spread over 24–36 months; leaving early can stop future credits while leaving an unpaid device balance. Plan requirements, new-line rules, upgrade eligibility, taxes, activation or upgrade fees, and unlocking conditions all affect the real cost.
Verizon’s indexed page gives an A17 monthly-price signal, but the available information does not establish whether $6.94 is before or after credits or the full promotion terms. The AT&T sheet makes the distinction between eligible new lines and upgrades explicit. Neither headline amount should be treated as a complete total-cost comparison without its live offer terms.

Calculate the full cost before choosing
Total cost = device payments + required plan cost attributable to the promotion + taxes and fees + activation or upgrade fees − confirmed promotional credits − trade-in value.
For a fair comparison, use the same ownership period for both options. Include only the extra plan cost caused by the promotion: if you would keep the same service anyway, do not charge the entire plan to the phone, but do include any required plan upgrade or new line. Confirm the device payment before credits, credit amount and duration, required plan, new-line or upgrade eligibility, trade-in rules, and what happens if you cancel or change plans. Do not call a device “free” based only on a monthly credit.

Check retailer listings before you buy
Retailer search pages can combine different sellers, conditions, and lock statuses. Walmart’s Samsung listings, for example, include both unlocked inventory and carrier-locked listings, so the retailer name alone does not establish what you are buying. Walmart’s Samsung listings illustrate why each product page needs its own checks.
- Confirm that the listing identifies a U.S. model and states factory-unlocked or the precise carrier lock.
- Check the exact model number, storage capacity, and whether the device is new, refurbished, or open-box.
- Identify the actual seller, including any marketplace seller, and check its warranty and return-window terms.
- Verify network compatibility, eSIM support, and included accessories for that exact model rather than assuming every regional version is alike.
- Check stock and the final checkout price for your location; color or storage variants can have different availability.
Best Buy’s indexed pages list unlocked A17, A37, and A57 models, but the available search results do not establish reliable live prices for each. Check the exact listing, seller, and configuration rather than treating a “20% off or more” category page as proof of a discount on the model you want. Best Buy’s unlocked Samsung Galaxy A listings are a place to compare configurations, not a verified price quote.
Trade-ins, bundles, and advertised extras
A trade-in can improve the deal only if you qualify and its net value beats what you could get by selling the old phone yourself. Before counting it, confirm the eligible devices and condition rules, whether the value is immediate or credited later, the mailing deadline, and whether the offer is tied to carrier bill credits. Samsung says its trade-in promotions generally cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier, or retailer promotions unless the offer terms specifically allow it. Samsung’s U.S. phone-offer terms are the place to check stacking conditions for its promotions.

Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy A page also advertises six months of SiriusXM All Access with an A-series purchase. Treat that as a possible add-on, not a reduction in the phone’s price, and check eligibility and expiration terms before assigning it value.
How to decide if the deal is worth it
- Pick the model by need first. Choose among the A17, A37, and A57 based on the model and storage that suit you; then compare prices for that exact configuration.
- Set an unlocked benchmark. Use the live checkout price for a new U.S. unlocked phone. Samsung’s $199.99 A17 128GB figure is a March 2026 MSRP reference, not a promise of today’s retail price.
- Read the carrier offer from device payment through cancellation. Record plan and line eligibility, credit amount and duration, trade-in requirements, fees, remaining balance, and unlocking rules.
- Compare total cost over the same period. Add the incremental service cost and fees to the carrier offer, subtract only credits you qualify for, and compare with the unlocked phone plus the service you would otherwise choose.
- Check seller and stock at checkout. Confirm model region, lock status, condition, warranty, return terms, storage, and the price for your delivery location.
Samsung’s U.S. site and participating retailers may advertise additional promotions, but they can change, exclude configurations, or conflict with other offers. Check the specific terms before counting a discount, trade-in, or bundle benefit toward the purchase.
