Short answer: Yes. Freedom Mobile ran a Canadian promotion tied to in-store iPhone 16 pre-orders, but the Apple Watch Series 10 was not an unconditional giveaway. The reported offer covered a qualifying 42mm cellular watch through 24 monthly bill credits, a required watch line, an eligible wireless plan, financing and activation fees. The reported redemption deadline was October 31, 2024, so treat it as expired unless Freedom confirms a new version.
What the promotion included
MobileSyrup reported on September 13, 2024, that Freedom offered an aluminum 42mm Apple Watch Series 10 with cellular connectivity to customers who pre-ordered an iPhone 16-series model in a Freedom store. Reported colours were Jet Black, Rose Gold and Aluminum, subject to stock. The offer did not establish eligibility for the 46mm size, GPS-only models, stainless-steel or titanium cases, or other upgrades. Read the original MobileSyrup report.
Eligibility checklist
- Pre-order an iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
- Complete the transaction in store; the reported offer was not an online pre-order benefit.
- Take the qualifying wireless plan reported for the promotion: Canada/U.S./Mexico 100GB 5G with 30GB of Roam Beyond, priced at $65 per month after the stated discounts.
- Add Freedom’s separate $10-per-month Apple Watch line.
- Finance the watch through Freedom within 30 days.
- Keep the required service and financing in good standing to receive the full credit schedule.
- Meet the reported October 31, 2024 deadline, while supplies lasted.
The available report does not fully establish whether every existing-customer upgrade qualified, or whether the offer was restricted to particular activation types. A store should provide the written terms before you sign.
How “free” worked
Freedom reportedly financed the watch and applied a $28 monthly account credit for 24 months. That is $672 in credits. MobileSyrup described the qualifying watch as worth approximately $679, so the promotion effectively offset nearly all of the device financing, but it should not be described as a guaranteed $0 checkout price without the original carrier contract.

You still had to pay for service, taxes and connection charges. The cited fees were $45 for the phone and $45 for the watch, or $90 before tax. Credits could also stop if you cancelled, changed to an ineligible plan or otherwise broke the promotion’s conditions; any unpaid device balance could remain due.
The monthly cost—and a problem with the published figures
The reported plan price included a $5 autopay discount, a further $5 monthly discount for 18 months and the $10 watch line. However, the same coverage presents two different service-only calculations: $65 per month for 18 months and $75 for the final six, but elsewhere $75 for 18 months and $80 for six. Those numbers may reflect different treatment of the discounts or whether the watch line was included.

Do not rely on either total without seeing the quote on your account. Ask the store to break out the base plan, autopay discount, temporary discount, Apple Watch line, phone financing, watch financing, taxes and connection fees.

MyTab versus TradeUp
Under the reported MyTab examples, you would own the phone after the two-year financing term, assuming all payments were made. TradeUp can advertise a lower monthly device price, but it generally requires returning the phone in qualifying condition or paying the remaining amount at the end of the term. Freedom’s support material treats MyTab and TradeUp as separate programs, and changing to an ineligible plan can affect promotional savings. See Freedom’s MyTab and TradeUp terms.
What happens if you cancel or change plans?
- Cancel early: future watch credits can end, while remaining phone or watch financing may still be payable.
- Downgrade: moving to a non-qualifying plan can remove promotional credits or device savings.
- Cancel the watch line: the $10 service and associated promotion may no longer qualify.
- Miss the 30-day financing window: the watch credit may not be activated.
- Choose the wrong configuration: a GPS-only, 46mm or premium-case watch may not be covered.
- TradeUp: return or payoff obligations are separate from the watch promotion.
Financing remains subject to Freedom’s credit and approval requirements, and credits may not appear on the first bill. Confirm billing timing in writing.

Was it still available?
The reported deadline was October 31, 2024, while supplies lasted. MobileSyrup’s archive later carried headlines about possible Freedom revivals in March and May 2025, but the available information does not show that those versions had the same terms. Do not merge them with the 2024 offer.
Freedom’s Apple storefront pages crawled in 2026 show current iPhone 16 listings and newer Apple Watch models such as Series 11, not the original Series 10 giveaway. Check the current Freedom Apple device catalogue and obtain written terms before assuming a similar deal is active.

Who would have benefited?
The promotion made sense mainly for someone who already wanted an iPhone 16, wanted cellular Apple Watch service, could stay with Freedom for 24 months and valued the qualifying Canada/U.S./Mexico coverage. It was a weaker fit if you wanted the lowest possible monthly bill, did not need a watch line, might switch carriers early, wanted a 46mm or premium watch, or preferred an online purchase.
For any similar carrier offer, compare the complete 24-month cost:
(qualifying phone plan × 24) + (watch line × 24) + phone financing + taxes and fees − watch credits actually received
Then compare that total with buying an unlocked iPhone or Apple Watch directly. The “free watch” headline is only one part of the commitment.
