Freedom Mobile did report $40/100GB and $50/150GB offers in March 2026. But those figures should be treated as a dated plan announcement—not Freedom’s current headline pricing. On August 18, 2026, Freedom’s public offers included $35/10GB, $40/70GB and $45/125GB BYOD plans, plus separate student and multi-line promotions.

What Freedom reportedly changed in March
A March 20, 2026 report from MobileSyrup said Freedom Mobile was promoting:

The report positioned the plans alongside competing Public Mobile offers and referenced Canada-U.S.-Mexico calling, texting and data, unlimited Canadian talk and text, unlimited Roam Beyond talk and text, a $5 Digital Discount and BYOD credits.

However, the original MobileSyrup page now returns a 404 error. That means the March report confirms the headline price-and-data combinations, but its complete historical fine print cannot now be independently checked. In particular, readers should not assume from the headline alone whether the data was Canada-only, Canada-U.S.-Mexico data, base data plus bonus data, or subject to a specific device or eligibility condition.

What the advertised prices really mean
The $5 Digital Discount is conditional
The advertised prices generally include Freedom’s $5 Digital Discount. Eligibility requires an eligible plan, enrollment in Auto Pay, a valid Auto Pay method and redemption of the “Digital Discount” promo code in a store or through My Account.

For postpaid service, Freedom says customers should complete the requirements on the activation date so the discount appears on the first or next bill. A customer can lose the discount for a month if they become ineligible. Do not treat the discounted figure as an unconditional price.
Taxes are extra. A postpaid connection fee of up to $45 may apply, although a particular online promotion may waive it. Device financing, TradeUp and MyTab charges are separate from the wireless plan price.
“Unlimited” does not mean unlimited full-speed data
Freedom’s unlimited plans continue to provide data after the included full-speed allowance is used, but at sharply reduced speeds. Depending on the plan, the full-speed allowance can range from 25GB to 250GB.

- On the Freedom network, post-allotment speeds may be up to 256 Kbps download and 128 Kbps upload.
- On Nationwide, U.S. and Mexico partner networks, the stated maximums can be 128 Kbps download and 64 Kbps upload.
At those speeds, messaging, email, basic browsing and low-quality audio may remain possible. Video streaming, hotspot use, large downloads and peer-to-peer transfers can become impractical. Freedom sends usage notifications at 70% and 100% of the full-speed allowance, and a full-speed data add-on may be available through My Account. See Freedom’s unlimited-data policy.
Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Roam Beyond are separate questions
A larger domestic data allowance is not automatically better for someone who travels. When comparing a plan, identify:
- Whether the full-speed data works only in Canada or also in the U.S. and Mexico.
- Whether U.S. and Mexico access is part of the regular allowance or a separate feature.
- How much Roam Beyond data is included.
- Which destinations Roam Beyond supports and whether the allowance recurs monthly.
- What happens after the roaming allowance is used.
Do not describe the March 100GB or 150GB figures as Canada-U.S.-Mexico full-speed data unless the applicable historical terms confirm it. The unavailable original article does not provide enough evidence to settle that detail.

Who qualifies for the current offers?
BYOD customers
The $35, $40 and $45 headline offers are presented as BYOD plans. A customer bringing a compatible phone should still confirm device, SIM, coverage and plan eligibility at checkout. A subsidized phone or MyTab arrangement can change the monthly economics.
Students
The $45/175GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico offer includes 10GB of Roam Beyond data, but it is not a general public plan. Freedom’s terms require a new line, an eligible post-secondary institution, proof of enrollment, an eligible student email address and a new one-line account. New lines added to existing accounts are excluded from this student offer.

Households with three or more lines
The $30/100GB promotion is potentially significant for families, but it applies to qualifying accounts with at least three lines and to new BYOD lines. It should not be compared with ordinary single-line pricing.

Existing Freedom customers
Changing to a current in-market plan can remove bonus data attached to an older plan. Before accepting a migration, check whether the existing account has grandfathered pricing, permanent or temporary bonus data, better U.S. or Mexico terms, included international roaming, promotional credits or a device-financing obligation.

Do not switch solely because a newer plan displays more Canadian data. First download or screenshot the current Critical Information Summary, then compare it with the new plan line by line.
- Confirm the price before and after the Digital Discount.
- Check the full-speed data bucket and where it applies.
- Record all included U.S., Mexico and Roam Beyond data.
- Check whether bonus data disappears after the change.
- Review MyTab, TradeUp and device-savings obligations.
- Confirm whether the new plan requires BYOD, a new line or multiple lines.
- Check coverage at home, work and regular travel destinations.
Freedom’s Price Freeze Promise applies to the wireless rate-plan price itself, but not necessarily to taxes, levies, add-ons, device financing, one-time passes, pay-per-use charges or other fees. Plan-change details are available in Freedom’s support guidance.
Coverage and 5G+ considerations
Freedom describes coast-to-coast Canadian service using Freedom and Nationwide partner networks. Those networks are not identical, and local indoor coverage, congestion, device bands and roaming locations can materially affect service. Check the official coverage map for the addresses and routes that matter to you.
On July 24, 2026, Freedom announced that all plans would receive access to 5G+ at no additional cost where the customer has a compatible device and SIM and is in a 5G+ coverage area. Freedom also announced network expansion affecting more than 500,000 additional Canadians. That announcement improves the access terms, but it does not guarantee a particular speed everywhere. Advertised peak speeds are theoretical rather than guaranteed everyday performance. Read the 5G+ announcement and current offer terms together.
Other billing limits to check
- Taxes are added to the advertised monthly price.
- Connection fees may apply.
- MyTab and TradeUp payments or obligations are separate from the plan.
- Roaming data has distinct caps and restrictions.
- Freedom’s data-cap policy describes a maximum chargeable roaming-data amount of $100 per line/account structure before data access is restricted, while other data-cap treatment depends on the service and roaming context.
Who benefits most from each offer?
- Single-line BYOD user: Compare the current $40/70GB and $45/125GB plans based on full-speed data, coverage and roaming—not the outdated March headline.
- Eligible student: The $45/175GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico plan may be more useful if travel is frequent, but verify the student requirements and 18-month credit.
- Three-or-more-line household: Investigate the $30/100GB offer, remembering that it is a new-BYOD-line promotion and not a single-line price.
- Existing Freedom customer: Keep the older plan unless the new offer clearly improves total value after accounting for lost bonus data, roaming benefits and device obligations.
The practical comparison is not simply “more gigabytes for less money.” It is the after-discount monthly cost, full-speed allowance, geographic coverage, roaming, eligibility, device obligations and the value of any benefits attached to an existing plan.
