Freedom Mobile’s reported $29-a-month plan with 60GB of data across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico was a targeted win-back offer—not a publicly guaranteed plan for anyone to sign up for. MobileSyrup reported it on January 23, 2026, based on an offer screenshot shared on Reddit. The offer was aimed at some former customers and reportedly required bringing your own phone. Availability may have changed since the report, so rely on a current offer sent to you—not the headline—before switching back.
What the reported offer included
According to MobileSyrup’s January 23, 2026 report, a screenshot of a Freedom win-back offer showed these terms:

These are reported terms, not a current public offer page. The report does not establish whether the $29 required Auto Pay or digital billing, whether taxes were included, what account type was eligible, or how long the price and bonus applied. Check the actual email, text or account offer and its linked terms before accepting.
Who could get it?
The offer was described as a win-back campaign, meaning Freedom was contacting at least some people who had left the carrier. One reported recipient said the offer arrived about a month after leaving and completing an exit survey. That does not mean every former customer received it: the evidence points to selective distribution, potentially through a personal email or promo code.

If you are a current Freedom customer, a new customer, or a former customer without an offer, do not assume you can activate the $29 rate. Earlier versions of similar campaigns were also reported as former-customer offers, sometimes with a personally issued code. You can check Freedom’s current plans, but a standard signup page should not be treated as proof that it will honor a targeted win-back deal.
If you received a code, check its expiry, eligible plan, activation channel, account-history conditions and whether it is single-use. A rejected code could be expired, tied to a different account, or incompatible with the activation path. Customer service may be able to clarify the terms, but there is no basis to assume it must extend the promotion to people who did not receive it.

Is $29 the amount you would actually pay?
The January report stated a $29 monthly price, but did not establish every condition needed to get or keep it. Before agreeing, ask for the total recurring price and confirm:
- Whether $29 is the base rate or a price after Auto Pay, digital billing or another discount.
- Whether taxes are extra and whether any other monthly charges apply.
- Whether a discount has an end date or can be lost if a payment method fails.
- Whether the price applies to your account type and line, and what happens if you change plans.
- Whether the waived connection fee is reflected on the order confirmation.
Earlier campaigns provide context, not proof of the January 2026 terms. In May 2025, similar reporting described a $35 regular price reduced to $29, with some customers reportedly able to reach $25 with Freedom Home Internet. Those conditions should not be carried over to this offer: see the May 2025 report and June 2025 coverage of a $25 version. Do not add home internet solely to chase a mobile discount; compare the bundle’s total cost with internet service you would otherwise choose.

How the 60GB and 5GB roaming amounts differ
The reported 60GB allowance was for use across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. It should be understood as one shared North American pool, not 60GB in each country. The report does not spell out what happens once high-speed data is used up, or confirm hotspot rules, network-management limits or any separate overage charges. Get those details in the plan’s service terms.
The additional 5GB of Roam Beyond data was reported as a one-time allowance, not 5GB that renews each month. Roam Beyond is separate from the plan’s Canada-U.S.-Mexico data. The available reporting does not establish which destinations the bonus covers, when it expires, whether it includes voice or texts, or what happens after it is consumed. Confirm those points before relying on it for travel outside North America. Similar offers have had different one-time roaming bonuses; for example, a November 2025 report described a 10GB version, which does not change the January offer’s reported 5GB amount.

“5G+” also does not guarantee a particular speed everywhere. Service depends on a compatible device and available coverage; check the areas where you live, work and travel. A plan that includes U.S. or Mexico use does not mean coverage or performance will be identical in every location or on every partner network.

Is the $29 price permanent?
Do not read “$29” as a guaranteed price forever unless the offer itself clearly says that and its terms explain the protection. MobileSyrup’s report relayed users’ interpretation that the rate would stay unchanged, but did not link to a public price guarantee for this specific offer. A price freeze, a temporary discount and a base-plan rate are different things: an offer may protect one amount while a discount, bonus or eligibility condition is separate.

Freedom’s terms of service reserve the company’s ability to change promotions and applicable terms. That does not prove that Freedom changed this offer; it does mean you should read the price-protection language in the agreement and ask what could change if you miss Auto Pay, move to another plan or change account details.
How to decide whether it suits you
- Potentially strong fit: You have a compatible phone, received the offer, use substantial data, and regularly travel in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. The combination could be useful if the full terms confirm the shared data and calling benefits you need.
- Less compelling for light data use: If you rarely use more than a few gigabytes, a lower-cost Canada-only plan may cost less overall. Compare actual monthly totals, not just data-per-dollar.
- Not ideal if you need phone financing: The reported promotion required BYOD. Check Freedom’s BYOD information and confirm your phone is unlocked and compatible before returning.
- Limited help for frequent international travel: The North American data is distinct from the one-time Roam Beyond bonus. Frequent trips elsewhere may call for a plan with recurring coverage in those destinations.
- Consider local coverage first: Check service at home, work and along your regular routes. A low price is poor value if coverage does not work where you need it.
Compare any alternative on the same basis: total monthly price after required discounts, taxes and activation fees; data that works in the places you visit; whether roaming is recurring or one-time; BYOD versus financing; price-guarantee terms; and coverage. Public Mobile, Koodo, Fido and Virgin Plus are options to check, but prices and promotions change. Use their official pages for current terms—Public Mobile, Koodo, Fido and Virgin Plus. January 2026 comparisons are historical, not a reliable guide to what those plans cost now.
Before switching back
- Confirm the offer is yours and still valid. Check the sender, redemption deadline, eligible account and required activation method. If you did not receive it, do not cancel another service in the hope of triggering eligibility.
- Get the full monthly price in writing. Verify any billing discount, tax treatment, fee waiver and price-protection period.
- Read the roaming and data terms. Confirm what counts against the 60GB pool, the destinations and expiry for the 5GB bonus, and what happens after either allowance is used.
- Check your phone and coverage. Confirm that the unlocked device works on Freedom’s network and that service is suitable in the places you use it.
- Protect your number and service continuity. If you want to bring back a number, confirm porting and account requirements before making changes. Avoid cancelling a line or initiating another port until you understand the process; switching does not guarantee that the offer will remain available.
- Keep the offer and order confirmation. Save the email or message, applicable terms and activation confirmation in case the billed price or bonus differs from what was promised.
Freedom’s reported offer fits a familiar retention strategy: a carrier has an incentive to make a targeted deal to people who have already left. MobileSyrup also noted that Bell was running a similar campaign at the time. That is evidence of competition for switchers, not proof of a broader churn trend or that the same offers remain available today.
