Best current finds: Kobo’s U.S. storefront has ebooks listed for $0.99–$2.99, while its separate under-$3.99 promotion is advertised through August 31, 2026. For accessories, treat Apple’s $49–$59 cases and $39 MagSafe Charger as price benchmarks—not bargains—and shop third-party listings only after confirming the exact iPhone 17 model and key features. Prices and availability can change; check the live listing before checkout.
What counts as free—and what is just low-cost?
“Free ebook” can mean four different things: a $0 purchase, a title included with a paid subscription, a library loan, or a public-domain book. Those options differ in ownership, availability and device restrictions. A sample is not a full book, and a book labeled “Free with Kobo Plus” is subscription access, not a free purchase.
- Public domain: Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks offer free older works. These are dependable choices for classics, not new commercial releases.
- Library borrowing: Libby lets eligible library-card holders borrow ebooks. Selection, waitlists and loan periods depend on the participating library.
- Store promotions: Check the checkout price in your U.S. account. A deal may be regional, account-specific or already expired.
- Subscriptions: Kobo Plus, Kindle Unlimited and similar catalogs provide access while the subscription and title availability last. That is not the same as buying and keeping a book.
Cheap ebook deals to check
Kobo’s U.S. deals page showed multiple titles at $0.99, $1.99 and $2.99, including What I Talk About When I Talk About Running at $1.99 and The Reality Dysfunction at $2.99. Its monthly deals page advertised titles starting at $0.99, with examples from $1.99 to $3.99. The separate under-$3.99 promotion was listed through August 31, 2026.
These are a useful low-price pool, not proof that every title is discounted from a higher regular price. The pages rotate, and no regular prices are established here for those examples, so compare the current listing and edition before calling a title a major discount. Kobo’s page also shows some books as “Free with Kobo Plus”; check whether the purchase price itself is $0.00 if you want a book without a subscription.

Amazon, Apple Books and Google Play Books also have changing storefront prices. Search each store for the title you want and verify the final price, edition and any membership condition rather than relying on a general “free books” label. Amazon’s Kindle Store is broad, but Kindle purchases generally remain in Amazon’s ecosystem. The free Kindle app for iPhone supports reading Kindle books; purchase workflow can differ from reading in the app, so check Amazon’s current instructions.
Before buying or borrowing
- Confirm the storefront is set to the United States and check the price at checkout.
- Identify whether you are buying a title, borrowing it, or accessing it through a subscription.
- Do not assume a cheap or free ebook is an unrestricted EPUB. DRM, downloads, lending and device compatibility vary by store and title.
- On iPhone, Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books and Libby offer reading options, but each has its own account and content rules.
iPhone 17 accessories: spend less without buying the wrong fit
Apple’s U.S. accessory listings provide a useful baseline: iPhone 17 Clear and Silicone cases were listed at $49, an iPhone 17 Pro TechWoven case at $59, and a 1-meter MagSafe Charger at $39. Apple also listed a Beats USB-C cable at $18.99. These are not the lowest possible prices, but they help put a third-party “deal” in context. See Apple’s accessory catalog for current listings.

No individual third-party case or charger price can be responsibly called a deal without a verified live listing, seller, shipping terms and return policy. A reported “from about $14” price is not enough to identify a useful product. Instead, use these checks to judge an offer before buying.

For a case: match the exact phone first
Buy a case labeled for your exact device—not just “iPhone 17.” The iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17e and iPhone Air are distinct fit categories; dimensions, camera openings and button positions may differ. Check the listing’s model selector and return policy before ordering.

- Camera Control: Make sure the case is designed to preserve access to this control. Apple says its iPhone 17 cases use a sapphire-crystal and conductive-layer design for Camera Control. Do not assume an inexpensive third-party case handles it well; verify product-specific details.
- Magnetic accessories: If you use a magnetic mount, wallet or charger, look for clearly stated MagSafe or Qi2 compatibility. A case can fit physically yet have weak or absent magnetic alignment.
- Protection: Look for raised screen and camera edges, secure button covers and a clear description of impact protection. A low sticker price is poor value if the case is fragile or difficult to return.
Apple’s iPhone 17 Clear Case with MagSafe is an official comparison point: Apple lists it at $49 and says it supports Camera Control, MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi-certified charging. That does not make it a budget pick, but it illustrates the compatibility details a cheaper alternative should state plainly.
For charging: buy only what you need
If you already own a compatible USB-C power adapter, you may need only a cable. Check its length and charging specification; USB-C cables can differ substantially in data-transfer capability, and a cable advertised for charging does not necessarily provide the data speed you want. If buying a wall charger, check its output and whether the adapter is included. A high wattage on the box does not guarantee the phone will charge at that rate.

For magnetic wireless charging, seek a product with explicit MagSafe or Qi2 support rather than paying extra for a vague “magnetic” claim. Apple’s 1-meter MagSafe Charger was listed at $39, a useful benchmark for comparing a certified alternative. Include any required power adapter, shipping and taxes in the total.

- Subscription access presented as ownership: A title marked “Free with Kobo Plus” still depends on subscription access and catalog availability.
- Unclear case compatibility: Skip listings that do not name the exact iPhone model or explain Camera Control access.
- Unsubstantiated headline prices: “From $14” is not actionable without the exact product, seller, coupon terms, shipping and returns.
- Premium extras you will not use: A three-in-one dock or privacy protector can cost far more than a basic setup requires. Apple’s catalog listed a Belkin three-in-one dock at $149.95, for example.

- Free reading: Start with public-domain titles at Project Gutenberg or Standard Ebooks; use Libby if your library participates.
- A legitimately cheap current ebook: Browse Kobo’s U.S. deals and monthly pages, then confirm checkout price and subscription status.
- A budget case: Choose an exact-model case with raised edges, clear Camera Control compatibility and a return path; do not buy from price alone.
- Magnetic charging or mounting: Prefer explicitly MagSafe- or Qi2-compatible products and include the cost of any needed adapter.
- Lowest-cost charging upgrade: Reuse a compatible USB-C wall adapter if you already own one, and buy only the cable or charger you actually need.
