Canvas, the 3D-measurement and modeling company led by former Moz CEO Sarah Bird, announced a $10 million Series A on Jan. 29, 2025. It has since rebranded as Twindo, expanding its pitch from turning mobile scans into design files to organizing spatial information for design, construction and property operations.
What happened in Canvas’s $10 million funding round?
Canvas announced the Series A on Jan. 29, 2025. GeekWire reported that Trilogy Equity Partners led the round, with participation from Foundry Group, Acquired Wisdom Fund, GC&H Investments and Frontier VC. Funding databases have characterized Trilogy and Foundry as co-leads, so the lead-investor description varies by source.
The announcement did not provide an itemized budget for the $10 million. It is reasonable to view the financing in the context of the company’s shift toward a software-focused business and its plans to develop the product and grow its market, but specific allocations—such as hiring, marketing or particular features—were not disclosed.

The core workflow starts with capturing an existing space, rather than drawing it from scratch. A user scans with a compatible iPhone or iPad using the company’s iOS app. The captured spatial data can then be reviewed, measured and organized, and converted into deliverables such as editable 3D CAD or BIM models, 2D floor plans and measurement reports. Teams can share project information through the web experience and use supported output formats in tools including SketchUp, Revit, Chief Architect, Archicad, Vectorworks, 2020 Design Live and AutoCAD. Twindo describes its Scan to CAD workflow and supported formats in its help center.

That makes the product more than a consumer 3D-scanning app: its commercial purpose is to help professionals document existing conditions and get usable files into design and construction workflows. It still depends on capturing real spaces, but the company’s emphasis is software, processing, collaboration and conversion—not selling specialized scanning hardware.
There is an important compatibility qualification: Twindo says its Scan to CAD service supports scans captured through its own iOS apps, not arbitrary data from third-party scanners. A firm that already owns a scanner should confirm compatibility before planning a workflow around conversion.
Why Sarah Bird’s appointment mattered
Bird became Canvas CEO in April 2024. She joined Moz in 2007 and served as its CEO for about seven years. She helped guide the SEO software company through its 2021 sale to iContact, a subsidiary of J2 Global, according to GeekWire’s reporting.

Bird is an experienced software-company operator, not the founder of Canvas. The company’s roots predate her appointment. Her leadership background is relevant to the financing because Canvas was positioning itself as a software-focused business with a new growth phase, rather than simply a hardware venture.
From Occipital to Canvas to Twindo
The business traces its origins to Occipital, founded in 2008. Its earlier work covered 3D sensing, virtual reality, hardware and related technologies. In 2022, it narrowed its focus and relaunched as Canvas, concentrating on scanning spaces and turning the results into professional models. Bird joined in 2024; the Series A followed in January 2025.
On Feb. 5, 2026, Canvas announced that it was becoming Twindo. The company said the name change reflected a broader “spatial intelligence” platform: not just a scan and a model, but a shared record that can bring together scans, plans, photos, files and field notes. It said existing customer projects and workflows would continue without a migration. Older articles and searches may still use Canvas, while current product pages use Twindo.

The company has also described features intended to extend the workflow beyond one person’s phone. Invite to Capture lets a customer ask a homeowner, subcontractor or field team member to capture a space remotely. Twindo says project information can sync between its mobile app and web experience, with photos, notes and PDFs kept alongside spatial assets. Its February 2026 product update also described frequent scanning-app releases.
Who might use it—and what does it cost?
The likely users include remodelers, interior designers, architects, design-build firms, construction professionals and teams responsible for facilities or properties. The original Canvas proposition focused on converting room scans into professional models; Twindo’s current positioning reaches further, toward maintaining a shared spatial reference across design, construction and operations.
Twindo’s public pricing page lists a Starter plan at $0 per month for up to two projects monthly and an Essentials plan at $29 per month for up to five. Those plan limits do not mean every deliverable is free: conversion is priced by area and output. The listed Starter rates are $0.18 per square foot for a 2D floor plan and $0.26 per square foot for a standard 3D CAD/BIM format. Essentials lists $0.14 and $0.22 per square foot, respectively. Formats are priced individually, so ordering multiple outputs can add up; commercial pricing for larger or more customized needs is not fully listed. The company’s help center says rush service adds 20% and does not guarantee a particular delivery time. Customers should confirm file structure and level of development before ordering, particularly when a project depends on a specific downstream application or standard.
Device and project requirements matter as much as the subscription price. The workflow centers on compatible iPhones and iPads with LiDAR capability, rather than Android-first capture or arbitrary third-party scan files. A poor or incomplete capture—because of clutter, occlusion, reflective surfaces or inaccessible areas—can also undermine the usefulness of the resulting model. Review the scan and delivered files before relying on them for construction decisions.
Mobile LiDAR capture may be a practical alternative to specialized hardware for some documentation jobs, but the available evidence does not establish it as a substitute for every surveying, industrial-scanning or high-precision application. A model should not be assumed to be a stamped survey, engineering document or legal record. Twindo promotes accuracy and other performance claims on its own site; those are company claims, not independent validation.
What the financing signals—and what it doesn’t
The Series A is a milestone in the company’s move from Occipital’s broader 3D-technology roots to a software business built around mobile capture and professional deliverables. The later Twindo rebrand suggests a wider ambition: to connect spatial data and project information over the life of a space, not just produce a model from one scan. That is the company’s stated product direction, not proof of market adoption or financial performance.
For a potential customer, the practical question is whether the capture device, output formats, project volume and required precision fit the job. For a reader following the financing, the essential update is that the $10 million announcement belonged to Canvas in January 2025, under Sarah Bird; the company now operates as Twindo.
