In December 2023, Fido introduced two Boxing Week 4G LTE plans: 30GB for $39 per month before discounts, or 60GB for $50. Each price fell by $5 with automatic payments, making the advertised totals $34 and $45 per month. The offers are historical—not confirmed current Fido plans—and financing a phone came with an important restriction.

These figures come from contemporary coverage of Fido’s December 11, 2023 promotion. MobileSyrup’s report said the $44 plan was discounted to $39 and upgraded from 20GB to 30GB. The 60GB plan was listed at $50 before the automatic-payment discount.
Why the headline prices were $34 and $45
The $34 and $45 prices were not the plans’ pre-discount monthly rates. Fido’s $5-per-month automatic-payment discount brought the 30GB plan from $39 to $34 and the 60GB plan from $50 to $45. A customer who did not qualify for or chose not to use autopay would not reach those advertised totals, based on the reported pricing.

For a fair budget comparison, separate the service price from other possible costs. The figures do not include a financed phone, taxes, or any upfront device payment. The report does not establish whether the autopay discount had additional payment-method conditions or what happened if autopay was cancelled or a payment failed; those details would have needed confirmation in the offer terms.

4G LTE, not a 5G offer
Both plans were described as 4G LTE plans, with service speeds capped at up to 150Mbps. That is a maximum cap, not a promise that a customer would consistently experience that speed. Actual performance can depend on factors such as location, network conditions, and device.
The data allowance alone therefore does not make these plans equivalent to a similarly priced 5G plan. For a customer who mostly uses Wi-Fi and needs enough data for everyday browsing, messaging, and streaming, 30GB or 60GB on 4G could have been adequate. Someone specifically seeking 5G access or higher potential speeds would have needed to weigh that preference separately.

The phone-financing catch
The service price did not automatically include a smartphone. According to the report, customers pairing either plan with a phone had to select Fido’s Entry plan financing option. That generally involved paying some of the phone cost upfront. Fido’s Plus plan could offer a phone for $0 down, but was not the financing option available with these offers.

“$0 down” does not mean a phone is free: device payments and other terms can still affect total cost. The report does not provide handset prices or enough detail to calculate an all-in monthly bill. Before comparing a financed-phone offer with a bring-your-own-device plan, add the monthly device payment and any upfront amount, taxes, or end-of-term obligation shown in the actual agreement. The 2023 financing restriction should not be assumed to describe Fido’s current rules.

Why the 60GB data description changed
The early promotion was initially presented as a 60GB offer, described in the report’s initial presentation as 50GB plus 10GB of bonus data. A December 26, 2023 update said it was later displayed as 40GB plus 20GB of bonus data, still totalling 60GB.
That change matters because a total allowance that includes bonus data may not have the same terms as an entirely standard allowance. The available report does not establish how long the bonus data lasted, whether it was permanent on the account, or what conditions applied. Customers considering a similar promotion should check the specific plan details rather than assume every gigabyte is permanent.

How it compared with Public Mobile
At the time, the report compared Fido’s $34-per-month, 30GB offer with a recently launched Public Mobile plan priced at $34 per month for 25GB with 5G. On the reported figures, Fido offered 5GB more data at the same autopay-adjusted price, but Public Mobile’s plan was identified as 5G while Fido’s was 4G LTE with a 150Mbps cap.
This is a historical comparison, not a statement of either carrier’s current pricing or terms. The available information does not establish comparable details for roaming, hotspot use, network-management policies, customer eligibility, or other plan features, so it would be misleading to rank the plans on those points.

Which offer made more sense?
The $34/30GB plan
The lower-data offer could have suited a customer who wanted a lower monthly service bill, used Wi-Fi often, already had a phone, and was comfortable with autopay and 4G LTE. Its main trade-offs were the $5 discount requirement for the $34 price, the 150Mbps speed cap, and the reported Entry-plan restriction for customers financing a phone.
The $45/60GB plan
The higher-data offer could have suited someone who regularly used more mobile data away from Wi-Fi and wanted a larger allowance without paying more than the reported $50 pre-autopay service price. It still required autopay to reach $45, remained a 4G LTE plan, and had the same reported financing limitation. Its 40GB-plus-20GB-bonus presentation also made checking the bonus terms especially important.
Was the offer still available?
These were early Boxing Week offers reported in December 2023. The historical coverage does not establish that the plans, prices, data allowances, or financing conditions remained available in 2026. For current Fido pricing and signup options, check Fido’s official plans page; do not rely on the old $34 or $45 figures as live offers.
