Fido raised the prices of three advertised plans by $1 a month in April 2026, according to MobileSyrup’s April 28 report. The change affected in-market pricing—plans available to new or upgrading customers—not necessarily every existing subscriber. It was notable because MobileSyrup said another Fido plan-price change had occurred earlier that same week, although the first change’s exact amount, date and affected plans have not been documented in the available coverage.
The three reported prices
MobileSyrup reported the following monthly prices, each including Fido’s $5 automatic-payment discount:
| Plan | Reported price | Data | Included roaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | $40/month | 20GB | Canada service |
| Mid-tier plan | $45/month | 60GB | Canada service |
| Roaming plan | $50/month | 60GB | Canada/U.S./Mexico for 12 months |
The report said the plans retained 5G access at speeds of up to 1Gbps, hotspot access, unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, unlimited international text messaging and voicemail. Those feature details and the roaming duration should be treated as the April snapshot, not a guarantee that the terms remain unchanged.

Fido’s current plans page confirms that the carrier advertises 5G, hotspot access, automatic-payment-discounted prices and selected U.S./Mexico options, but today’s page is not proof that every April price or feature was identical.

What “second increase in a week” actually tells us
The headline describes timing, not a fully documented cumulative increase. MobileSyrup reported that Fido had adjusted prices again only days earlier. The available report does not establish the first adjustment’s exact date, amount, plans or whether it was a true price increase rather than a promotion ending or a plan restructure.
That distinction matters. It is accurate to say the April $1 change followed another Fido adjustment in the same week. It is not accurate to calculate a total increase for every plan without archived pages, customer notices or a company statement. Fido’s public explanation for the changes was not located in the available material.

Will existing customers pay $1 more?
Not automatically. “In-market” pricing generally refers to plans Fido is offering to new customers or people changing plans. Existing subscribers may remain on grandfathered or promotional plans.

The advertised price is not the whole bill
- Automatic payments: The reported $40, $45 and $50 figures included a $5 monthly discount. Confirm the price without that discount if you do not use automatic payments.
- Taxes: They are added to the plan price.
- Phone financing: A financed device is extra. Fido says device payments generally run for 24 months; see its financing explanation.
- Setup charges: Fido’s current page warns that a $40 device setup charge may apply.
- Add-ons and roaming: Optional passes and usage outside the included terms can raise the total.
A $1 monthly increase equals $12 a year before tax. That is modest by itself, but repeated changes and the loss of promotional value can materially alter what you receive for the same budget.
The earlier $25 promotion needs a careful comparison
MobileSyrup contrasted the new lineup with a $25/80GB Canada/U.S./Mexico offer seen about a month earlier. That offer appears to have been limited-time. The later $50 plan also reportedly limited Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming to 12 months, so calling the change “double the price” is only fair when eligibility, data allowance, roaming period and other conditions are genuinely comparable. A discontinued promotion is not proof that all existing Fido customers received a formal increase.

| Carrier | What the April snapshot indicated | What to verify now |
|---|---|---|
| Koodo | Reportedly matched Fido’s $40/20GB, $45/60GB and $50/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico structure, with a $55/100GB option. | Current prices, discount conditions and roaming terms at Koodo. |
| Virgin Plus | Comparable plans were reported at about $1 less than Fido. | Whether the difference still exists and whether it requires automatic payments at Virgin Plus. |
| Freedom Mobile | Reportedly offered more data and Canada/U.S./Mexico usage at similar or lower prices. | Coverage at home, work and travel destinations, plus live terms at Freedom. |
| Public Mobile | Its indexed August 2026 plans showed $40 for 75GB, $45 for 125GB and $50 for 175GB with Canada/U.S./Mexico service. | Promotion expiry, app-based support and exact roaming rules at Public Mobile. |
Public Mobile therefore offered the clearest “more data for similar money” comparison in the available official material. That does not make it universally better: network experience, support model and device-financing arrangements still matter.

Should you stay, negotiate or switch?
- Stay put if your current grandfathered price is good, Fido coverage meets your needs and changing would trigger a device balance or remove a valuable benefit.
- Ask Fido first if your promotion is ending or your bill rose. Request available retention or migration offers, and obtain the terms in writing.
- Compare alternatives if you are on a month-to-month bring-your-own-device plan and prioritize data or North American roaming. Compare the price after all discounts, not just the headline number.
- Check the fine print for 5G access, high-speed data limits, hotspot treatment, roaming geography and duration, automatic-payment requirements, activation/setup fees and taxes.
- Calculate switching costs before porting your number. Include any remaining device-financing balance, SIM or eSIM setup, lost promotional credits and the possibility that coverage is weaker where you actually use the phone.
Bottom line
Fido’s April 2026 change was a $1 increase on three in-market plans—$40 for 20GB, $45 for 60GB and $50 for 60GB with 12 months of Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming—after another adjustment earlier that week. The increase is small in isolation, but it reinforces why customers should distinguish public new-customer pricing from their own bill and evaluate data, roaming, discounts and device obligations together. The exact first increase and Fido’s reason for either change remain unconfirmed.
