Fido’s Boxing Day 2024 promotion advertised the iPhone 16 at $28.38 per month and the iPhone 15 at $22.80 per month, each over 24 months with $0 down. The reported deadline for those phone discounts was December 31, 2024. The promotion has expired and was not available in 2026.
These were carrier-financing offers—not outright unlocked-phone prices. The real cost also depended on the required Fido plan, taxes, credit approval, account eligibility and what happened if you cancelled before the 24-month term ended.

The prices and December 31 deadline were reported by MobileSyrup on December 26, 2024. The $5 monthly reduction from the earlier Boxing Day prices worked out to $120 over 24 months for either model.

The iPhone 16 deal was a particularly large reduction from an earlier December offer, when it had reportedly been listed at $48.38 per month. The iPhone 15 appeared in the Boxing Day update at $22.80 per month, compared with a reported regular promotional price of $27.80.

What the advertised price did—and did not—include
“$28.38 per month” meant $28.38 each month for 24 months through Fido’s Payment Program. It did not mean the iPhone 16 cost $28.38 in total, and “$0 down” did not mean the phone was free. It meant no upfront device down payment was required in the advertised offer.
Fido’s sample Device Financing Agreement describes monthly payments over 24 months, including a payment in month 24. The applicable 2024 agreement—not the headline alone—determined the total amount payable, ownership terms and any return or payoff obligations.
The reported figures of $1,161 for the iPhone 16 and $1,027 for the iPhone 15 were listed as full prices in contemporaneous coverage. They should not automatically be treated as the total of the promotional monthly payments: $28.38 × 24 equals $681.12, while $22.80 × 24 equals $547.20. These may be different pricing or financing fields. Before signing up, compare the agreement’s stated total device cost with the monthly payment schedule.

The advertised device charge was not the complete monthly bill. As reported on December 26, 2024, Fido was also advertising:

Those plan details were date-sensitive and could vary by account. The plan price may also have been higher without the automatic-payment discount. A useful calculation was:
Monthly bill = device payment + wireless plan + taxes + optional add-ons − stated credits.
For example, the headline iPhone 16 payment plus the advertised $34 plan produced $62.38 per month before taxes, add-ons or other account charges. That was not necessarily the price every customer saw or qualified for.
Who qualified?
The reports described these as Fido Payment Program prices, but they did not establish that every new or existing customer received identical terms. Eligibility could depend on:

- new activation versus an existing-customer upgrade;
- the selected plan;
- credit approval;
- account standing;
- device model, storage and inventory;
- province-specific taxes and terms; and
- whether the purchase was made online or in a store.
Customers should have checked the offer shown in their Fido account or checkout flow. Fido’s upgrade page notes that upgrades and device transactions are subject to Fido’s terms and FidoTRADE terms where applicable.
iPhone 15 versus iPhone 16
The iPhone 15 was the lower-cost option at $22.80 per month, or $547.20 in advertised device payments over 24 months. It made the most sense for someone who wanted an iPhone and did not need the newer model’s features.
The iPhone 16 cost $5.58 more per month than the iPhone 15, or $133.92 more across the advertised 24-month payment schedule. It was the newer generation, but the better choice depended on the model and storage offered, the plan required and how long the buyer expected to keep it. The monthly difference alone did not establish which phone was better value.

It could have been attractive if you already planned to stay with Fido for at least 24 months, qualified for the displayed price and wanted a lower upfront cost. The relevant comparison was the complete 24-month cost, not just the phone payment.

It could have been poor value if you were moving to Fido only to obtain the phone discount, needed a cheaper bring-your-own-device plan, expected to change carriers soon or wanted an unlocked phone with no carrier-linked financing. A more expensive required plan can outweigh a lower device payment.
Early cancellation matters
Do not assume you could cancel service and simply keep paying $28.38 per month. Depending on the applicable agreement and transaction structure, cancelling, upgrading or changing eligibility could make a remaining device balance or another contractual amount payable. Promotional credits could also stop, and taxes or account charges could remain.
Before switching carriers, ask Fido for the exact remaining device balance and cancellation consequences in writing. Fido’s current pages cannot prove what every 2024 customer’s agreement said.
Comparing Fido with Apple
Apple Canada says iPhones purchased directly from Apple are unlocked and can be used with a compatible carrier. That makes an Apple purchase easier to compare with a carrier offer: the phone cost is separated from the wireless plan, and you retain the ability to change carriers.

For a fair comparison, check:
- the phone’s total price and storage;
- the cost of the required Fido plan over 24 months;
- taxes, activation charges and add-ons;
- trade-in value or promotional credits;
- the financing term and ownership language;
- the amount payable if you leave early; and
- any retailer gift card or points incentive.
Apple’s current Canadian pricing is not a reconstruction of the 2024 deal. On August 18, 2026, Apple’s iPhone 16 buying page showed connected pricing from $999, or $41.62 per month for 24 months, while some unlocked configurations displayed higher prices, including $1,149 for a 128GB model. Current prices and configurations change, so use Apple Canada’s buying page for a present-day comparison.
Apple’s refurbished store was another carrier-independent option when the desired model, storage and price were available. Inventory changes quickly.
Other Fido Boxing Day offers
The same December 26, 2024 update also listed the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S24 at $15 per month, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 at $40 per month, an iPhone 16 with fourth-generation AirPods at $40.84 per month, and a Pixel 9 Pro with Pixel Buds Pro 2 at $37.46 per month. Those offers were secondary to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 discounts and were also historical promotions.
Retailer activations at stores such as Costco, Best Buy, Walmart or The Mobile Shop could include separate gift cards or points. Those incentives were not necessarily available through Fido’s direct channel, so they belonged in the comparison if you were shopping during the original promotion.
Before accepting a similar carrier offer
- Confirm the exact iPhone model, storage and colour.
- Confirm the device payment, term and total amount payable.
- Check whether the phone payment is a standard installment, a trade-in/return arrangement or another financing structure.
- Confirm the plan price both with and without autopay.
- Ask whether you own the phone after month 24 and whether any final payment or return condition applies.
- Request the exact early-cancellation payoff amount and save it.
- Add taxes, optional services and account fees to the calculation.
- Compare the 24-month total with Apple’s unlocked price and retailer incentives.
- Screenshot the offer and keep the financing agreement.
One further caution: the phone discount deadline and plan deadline were not necessarily the same. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 reductions were reported as ending December 31, 2024, while plan offers may have had different end dates. Later coverage contained an inconsistent year reference for a possible plan extension, so it should not be used as proof that the phone discounts continued beyond December 31.
Historical status
Fido’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Boxing Day 2024 prices were reported on December 26, 2024 and advertised through December 31, 2024. They are expired promotions, not current offers. For a current purchase, check Fido’s phone page and upgrade page, then compare the personalized result with an unlocked Apple or refurbished purchase.
