Meta’s November 13, 2025 Facebook Marketplace update was a mix of social-shopping features, AI-assisted tools, partner listings and a clearer checkout for shipped orders—not a fully AI-powered overhaul. Some features were described as tests or staged rollouts, so availability can vary. In March 2026, Meta announced a separate set of seller-focused AI tools.
What Meta announced for Marketplace
The November update brought together four kinds of changes: social discovery, collaborative shopping, AI-assisted research and commerce infrastructure. Meta described reactions and comments, shared Collections, partner inventory from eBay and Poshmark, and changes to shipped-order checkout alongside two explicitly AI-related buyer features: suggested questions for seller chats and vehicle information summaries.
That distinction matters. AI suggestions may help a buyer ask a better question, but they do not authenticate an item, inspect a car, or guarantee a safe transaction. Meta’s November 13, 2025 announcement used different rollout language for different features, including “testing” and “beginning to test.” It does not establish that every feature is available to every account, device, category or country.
Collections make saved listings shareable
Marketplace users can save listings into Collections, choose whether a collection is public or private, and invite friends. Meta says users can share updates through Feed, Messenger, WhatsApp and other Meta surfaces. That could help a couple compare furniture, a household plan an apartment setup, or friends collect gift ideas in one place.

A Collection is an organizing and sharing tool, not a shopping cart, reservation or promise that a seller will hold an item. A saved listing can change or disappear, and another buyer may purchase it first. Check the listing and seller directly before making plans or sending money.
Collaborative buying is a test, not a group-purchase service
Meta described testing a feature that lets a buyer invite a friend into a chat with the seller. The group can ask questions, get a second opinion, discuss price or coordinate pickup. This may be useful for bulky purchases or when someone wants another person to help assess a listing.
It does not mean Meta splits payment, guarantees a group purchase, verifies the invited friend, or adds transaction protection. If the feature is not visible in your account, the announcement does not provide a workaround; availability is not universal.

Reactions and comments add social signals—not proof
Reactions and comments let people respond directly to listings. Meta says these interactions may help others assess an item and discover listings, while likes can inform Marketplace personalization.
Comments can surface useful details, but they are public social signals: a reaction is not evidence that an item is genuine, fairly priced, safe or still available. Popularity can be manipulated, and a heavily liked listing can still be misleading or fraudulent. Consider what your comments, reactions and shared collections reveal about your interests or purchase plans.
Meta AI suggested questions: prompts for a conversation
When a buyer starts a seller chat, a “Suggested questions to ask” control may appear. Meta says its AI uses information in the listing and conversation to suggest questions. The suggestions can help get a conversation started, but they are not an inspection, appraisal, fraud check, warranty or substitute for checking the item yourself.

Use the prompts as a starting point, then ask the questions that matter for the specific purchase:

- Furniture: What are the exact dimensions? Is there damage, smoke exposure or missing hardware? Does it need assembly, and is delivery available?
- Electronics: How long does the battery last? Has the device been repaired? Are accessories included? Is it locked to an account or carrier? Can the seller provide proof of purchase?
- Clothing: What are the garment’s measurements? Are there stains or alterations? For a high-value item, what evidence supports its authenticity?
- Vehicles: What is the VIN, title status and mileage? Has the car been in an accident? Are maintenance records available? Will the seller allow an independent inspection?
If an AI suggestion misses your concern, ask it anyway. A seller who avoids direct questions, pressures you to pay quickly or refuses reasonable inspection deserves more scrutiny, not less.
AI vehicle insights are not a vehicle inspection
Meta said it was beginning to test AI-powered vehicle information that could include engine options, safety ratings, transmission, seating, cargo capacity, reviews and price insights. The company did not specify a complete data-source list, geographic coverage, valuation method or accuracy rate in the announcement.

Treat any summary as reference material, not confirmation that the seller’s particular car matches the description or is worth the suggested price. Before buying, verify the VIN, mileage, title and lien status, accident and service history, and recall status. Arrange an independent inspection and check applicable taxes, registration requirements and seller obligations where you live. A specialist vehicle marketplace or dealer may be a better fit if you need documented history, financing, a warranty or a more structured purchase process.

Meta said eBay inventory was being integrated into Marketplace, followed by Poshmark listings. Partner items can appear in the Marketplace feed with an identifying icon; the product-details page shows listing and seller information. When you choose to buy, checkout sends you to the partner’s website.
In practical terms, Facebook can be the discovery surface while eBay or Poshmark handles the transaction. Check the destination URL and seller identity before entering payment details, and review the partner’s current payment, shipping, return and dispute rules. Do not assume that a listing preview in Facebook gives you the same protections as completing a purchase on the partner platform.

Meta said more than 200 million fashion items were listed on Marketplace in the United States and described fashion as its second-largest category after home decor. That is Meta’s figure for listings—not an independently audited count of unique items, active sellers or completed sales.
Shipped-order checkout: clearer totals and updates
For shipped purchases, Meta announced upfront totals that include shipping and tax, along with notifications as an order’s status changes. This is a checkout improvement for eligible shipped transactions, not a universal redesign of every Marketplace purchase.
The announcement does not say that every listing can be shipped, that all sellers qualify, or that local pickup receives the same protections. Tax treatment and shipping choices can vary, and a displayed total may change if the destination or order details change. Review the final amount and terms before paying.
What changed in March 2026: seller-focused AI
On March 12, 2026, Meta announced a separate group of Marketplace AI capabilities aimed at sellers: help creating listings, summaries of seller profiles, offers of shipping on listings and AI-assisted replies to initial buyer messages. The Meta Marketplace announcements archive records that follow-up, but the available announcement information does not provide a complete feature-by-feature rollout map. Treat these tools as announced or rolling out, not as features every seller has.
Faster listing creation and replies may reduce effort, but an AI-generated response can sound polished while failing to answer the buyer’s actual question. Buyers should check the substance of the reply and ask again when key details are missing. Sellers should review generated descriptions and messages for accuracy before relying on them.
How to use the changes without mistaking convenience for protection
- Check who is selling and where you will pay. Distinguish an individual Marketplace seller from an eBay or Poshmark partner listing, and confirm the final checkout destination.
- Inspect local-pickup items before paying. Meet in a public, well-lit place when practical, examine the item and keep communication and payment records. Avoid deposits for ordinary listings.
- Use protected payment routes for shipped purchases. Confirm the destination domain and read the platform’s current payment, return and dispute policies. Do not move a transaction to an unprotected payment method because a seller asks.
- Apply more independent checks to high-value goods. Cars, electronics, luxury goods and collectibles may require a specialist inspection, title or history checks, proof of authenticity, or other documentation that an AI summary cannot provide.
- Share selectively. Public comments, reactions and shared collections can disclose interest or intent. Choose the collection’s privacy setting with that in mind.
Features marked as tests can change, disappear or vary by user. If a tool is absent, the announcement does not imply that something is wrong with your account. Meta also has not established that these features reduce fraud or make every Marketplace transaction safer.
