Yes—Meta announced an optional AI auto-reply for Facebook Marketplace availability questions in March 2026. During listing creation, sellers can preview and edit a reply that uses information in the listing, such as its description, availability, pickup location and price. It can handle a repetitive first response; it is not a general-purpose chatbot that verifies inventory, negotiates a sale or completes a transaction.
What the Marketplace auto-reply does
When a buyer asks whether an item is still available, a seller who has enabled the feature can have Meta AI send a response based on the listing. Meta’s March 2026 announcement says sellers can enable, preview and edit the reply during listing creation. Meta’s example is essentially a confirmation followed by an invitation to ask another question; the wording may vary.

The setting is tied to that availability inquiry. Meta has not described it as a system that answers every buyer message, bargains over price, arranges a meetup, confirms payment or manages disputes. Think of it as automating the opening acknowledgment, not the sale.
How to find and review it
- Start creating a listing in Facebook Marketplace.
- Look for the Meta AI auto-reply option in the listing workflow.
- Preview the suggested message and edit it to match your actual terms.
- Enable it only if the listing details are accurate and you can keep the listing current.
Meta’s announcement does not document a single exact menu path for every phone, app version or account. If you do not see the option, update Facebook and check the standard listing-creation flow again later. Availability may vary by account, market, category or rollout; Meta has not established that every seller has it. Avoid installing an outside automation tool just because the native option is missing.

What information can it use—and what it cannot know
Meta says the reply can draw on the listing description, stated availability, pickup location and price. That makes the quality of the answer dependent on the quality and freshness of the listing. If the item has sold, the price changed in chat, or another buyer has a hold on it, an automated “yes” may mislead.
The announcement does not say the AI independently checks that the item is still in the seller’s possession. Treat its reply as generated from listing information, not proof that the seller just checked inventory. Update or deactivate the listing when the item is sold, held, repriced or unavailable.

Before enabling it: a seller checklist
- Check availability and price. Make sure both reflect the current situation, including any pending hold or agreement.
- Keep pickup details broad. A neighborhood or public meeting point is safer than exposing a home address in a listing or automatic message.
- Review condition and terms. Do not let a vague description imply that an item is flawless, complete or compatible if you have not verified that.
- Do not automate commitments. A first reply should not promise to hold an item, accept a deposit, confirm payment or agree to a negotiated price.
- Stay available for follow-up. Buyers still need a person to confirm timing, condition, payment and handoff.
A restrained reply might say: “Yes, it is currently available. The price is in the listing, and pickup is in [broad area]. Let me know when you’d like to discuss a time.” Keep any template factual and change it when circumstances change.

An automated availability confirmation can save time, but it does not show that the seller is actively reading messages or that the item is reserved for you. Ask a person to confirm the item, condition, final price, pickup arrangements and payment method before proceeding. Do not send money just because a reply says the item is available; be wary of requests to move immediately to another messaging service, and never share passwords, verification codes or sensitive personal information.

Review the seller profile, ratings and listing history where available, but treat those as context rather than guarantees. Meet in a safe public place when practical and follow local safety guidance. Meta also announced AI-generated seller-profile summaries that may include Facebook tenure, friends, listing history, item categories and ratings. Such summaries can offer clues, not proof that a seller is genuine or safe.
The wider Marketplace AI rollout
The auto-reply was one part of Meta’s March 2026 Marketplace announcement. Other announced tools include AI listing drafts from photos, suggested prices based on similar local listings, shipping improvements with prepaid labels and an order-tracking dashboard, and AI-generated seller-profile summaries. These are separate tools: a listing draft or price suggestion is not part of the availability responder.

Meta later announced Seller, a dedicated Marketplace seller app with AI listing creation, a unified seller inbox, inventory management and performance insights. Meta described it as available on the App Store for U.S. users aged 18 and older. Its announcement does not confirm that every Marketplace auto-reply function is available identically in that app.

Is the auto-reply worth using?
For a seller fielding many repetitive inquiries, it can reduce the time spent sending the same initial confirmation—provided the seller checks the wording and keeps listings current. For occasional sellers, a manual reply or a saved text snippet may be just as convenient and gives complete control.

Frequent sellers can look at Meta’s Seller app for broader inbox and inventory management. Third-party automation may offer bulk listing or more elaborate response features, but it can involve granting another service access to messages or listing data, as well as account, privacy and reliability risks. Check permissions, data handling, cancellation terms and applicable platform rules before using one; more automation is not automatically better.
The useful boundary is simple: let AI handle a narrow, factual acknowledgment if it saves you time, but personally confirm anything that affects money, availability, condition or the handoff.
