Entegris was selected for up to $75 million in proposed U.S. CHIPS Act incentives on June 26, 2024, for a planned semiconductor-supply-chain manufacturing center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The announcement was a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms—not proof that $75 million had already been paid. On December 5, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced a finalized award of up to $77 million, with payments tied to project milestones.
The facility is intended to make liquid-filtration products and FOUPs (front-opening unified pods), which protect and move semiconductor wafers inside chip factories. It is an upstream supplier facility, not a plant that fabricates finished chips.
What Entegris actually received
The funding changed status and amount over time:

“Up to” is important. It describes the maximum incentive authority, not an unrestricted cash payment made on the announcement date. CHIPS commercial-facility awards are generally released as a project meets construction, production, investment, or other contractual milestones. Entegris’ private spending is separate from federal disbursements.

Where the project is located
The planned manufacturing center is in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is an additional project within Entegris’ U.S. operations, not a claim that every Entegris product will be made at this site.
What the Colorado Springs facility will make
Liquid-filtration products
Semiconductor fabrication uses extremely pure chemicals and other process fluids. Filtration products remove particles and contaminants before those fluids reach sensitive manufacturing steps. Commerce identified liquid filtration as an initial product focus.
FOUPs for wafer handling
FOUPs—front-opening unified pods—are specialized sealed carriers that protect wafers while automated equipment moves them between process tools. They help limit contamination and physical damage during fabrication.

The preliminary project description also discussed possible later production of advanced liquid filters, purifiers, and fluid-handling solutions. Those are planned or potential phases, not evidence that every product line is operating.
Why a supplier facility matters to chip production
The project addresses the upstream side of the semiconductor supply chain. A modern fab needs more than lithography tools and cleanrooms: it also depends on filtration, chemical delivery, wafer carriers, specialty materials, and contamination-control products. A shortage or disruption in any of those inputs can constrain chip output even when fab capacity exists.
Commerce presented the Entegris investment as a way to strengthen U.S. production of critical inputs, support domestic expansion of leading-edge chip manufacturing, and improve supply-chain resilience. That policy rationale should not be confused with a claim that this one project has already eliminated overseas dependence.
Jobs: projections, not current totals
- Nearly 600 direct manufacturing jobs were projected over several years.
- Approximately 500 construction jobs by 2030 were projected.
These figures come from the project announcements and are forecasts. They should not be read as jobs already filled, permanent employment guarantees, or a verified current headcount.
Timeline and what remains unconfirmed
The project was initially targeted to begin initial commercial operations in 2025. That was a schedule target, not confirmation that production started on time. The available announcements do not establish, as of August 18, 2026, whether the building is complete, what production volume has been reached, how many people have been hired, or how much federal funding has actually been disbursed.
A current company filing or government update would be needed to confirm:
- Construction completion and commissioning
- The actual commercial start date
- Current production volumes and product mix
- Funds paid against milestones
- Employment achieved versus projected
- Whether later-phase purifier or fluid-handling production has begun
CHIPS funding versus a possible tax credit
Entegris also planned to seek the Treasury Department’s Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit. Eligible projects may receive a credit of up to 25% of qualified capital expenditures, subject to statutory and regulatory requirements.
This is a tax incentive, not the same as the Commerce Department’s direct CHIPS award. The “up to 25%” ceiling does not mean Entegris will receive that percentage of the entire project cost, and it should not be added to the $77 million as guaranteed cash.
Reported environmental goals
Tech Times reported that Entegris aimed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 42% from a 2020 baseline by 2030 and design the facility to recover and recycle about 80% of process water. These are company-reported goals or design intentions, not independently verified results or proof that the targets have been achieved.

Why the $75 million headline needs context
“Entegris secures $75 million” is understandable shorthand for the June 2024 news event, but it overstates the legal and financial certainty at that point. The official description was a preliminary, non-binding memorandum of terms for up to $75 million. The subsequent final announcement superseded that figure with an award of up to $77 million.
The most accurate current description is therefore: Entegris received a final CHIPS award of up to $77 million for a planned Colorado Springs semiconductor-materials and wafer-handling facility; the $75 million figure refers to the earlier proposed amount.
