Yes, Energizer-branded EnergyBook laptops became real products—but “starting at $199” was the price announced in January 2025, not a verified current U.S. retail price. The line later entered European distribution, and its catalog spans basic Windows laptops as well as more capable Ryzen 5 models. The Energizer name is licensed: Avenir Telecom manages the product line, rather than Energizer itself making the computers.
Who is behind the EnergyBook laptops?
Energizer is the consumer-facing brand, while Avenir Telecom manages the licensed product line. Avenir describes its arrangement as an exclusive worldwide Energizer brand license and says the license was expanded into computing, tools, and electrical equipment in February 2024. It also reports that it worked with partner factories on specifications, production approval, and product qualification. In other words, this is a licensed-brand expansion—not evidence that Energizer has become a laptop manufacturer. Avenir Telecom’s 2024–25 report and its subsequent half-year report describe that arrangement and rollout.
What was announced in January 2025?
On January 21, 2025, following CES, reporting on Avenir Telecom’s announcement introduced the EnergyBook Classic range as inexpensive Windows laptops for students, casual users, and people who need basic productivity. The initial announcement described roughly 15-inch and 17-inch options and a planned starting price of $199. It did not provide a complete specification sheet, establish which exact configuration would cost $199, or give a firm retail launch date. Contemporary launch coverage is the source for that original price and announcement framing.
Did the laptops actually go on sale?
Yes, at least in Europe. Avenir’s corporate reporting says the first 15- and 17-inch references entered progressive commercialization in summer 2025, primarily through Amazon in Europe. The company also reported that EnergyBook models reached Amazon Prime Day product rankings. That ranking is Avenir’s own sales-related report; it is not independent evidence of product quality, market share, or broad commercial success. These reports establish a European rollout, but they do not establish current U.S. availability or a current universal price.

What configurations does the catalog show?
Avenir’s professional catalog lists multiple models and regional variants. The specifications below come from those listings; a catalog entry does not by itself confirm that a particular configuration is currently in stock at a consumer retailer.

What does the $199 price buy?
The defensible wording is that the range was announced to start at $199. The launch report did not identify the exact model attached to that figure or clarify whether it was a U.S. suggested price, a price before taxes or shipping, or a price that would remain available after launch. Avenir’s later reports confirm European commercialization but do not establish a current, universal retail price. Do not treat a U.S.-localized professional catalog page as proof that a U.S. consumer listing is available at $199.

If a live listing does appear near that price, check the exact model number and configuration. A 4GB RAM/128GB storage version is likely to be the least expensive candidate, but the available evidence does not confirm that it was the specific model promised at $199.
Are the specifications enough for everyday use?
The Classic models are best understood as basic-use Windows laptops, not performance systems. Their listed hardware should be suitable in principle for browsing, email, documents, streaming, video calls, and light schoolwork. That does not amount to an independent performance test.

- 4GB RAM and 128GB storage: a tight combination for Windows 11, several open applications, and a growing collection of files. It is most appropriate for light use and careful storage management.
- 8GB RAM and 256GB storage: a more practical starting point for ordinary multitasking, though still an entry-level specification.
- Celeron J4125, Celeron N4020, and Intel 6500Y listings: low-power, entry-level platforms. The catalog does not support treating the Classic models as suitable for demanding editing, modern gaming, 3D work, or heavy multitasking.
- 17.3-inch screen: more workspace, but less portability. Its listed 1,600 × 900 resolution is below Full HD.
- Ryzen 5 Pro models: the stronger specification on paper, particularly in the 16GB/512GB version, but a different product tier from the advertised entry-price story.
The product descriptions do not establish RAM or storage upgradeability, display brightness or color coverage, webcam quality, sustained performance, fan noise, or repairability. Buyers should not assume those qualities from the brand or the listed processor alone.
Battery life: treat the advertised numbers cautiously
Avenir advertises up to 8.5 hours on some listings, including a 15.6-inch P6500Y model. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result. There is also an inconsistency on the 17.3-inch J4125 page: its marketing copy says up to 8.5 hours, while the structured specification lists autonomy of up to five hours. The page does not explain the difference, so neither figure should be treated as a verified real-world runtime. Battery capacity and Energizer branding are not substitutes for independent testing.

Who might consider an EnergyBook?
A Classic EnergyBook could be worth considering if the actual delivered price is very low and the intended workload is limited to everyday browsing, documents, email, streaming, or light schoolwork. The 8GB/256GB version is likely a more sensible starting point than 4GB/128GB if the price difference is modest. The 17.3-inch model may suit someone who values a larger screen and mostly works at a desk.

- Seller and stock: confirm who is selling the laptop and that the item is actually in stock, not just present in a catalog.
- Exact configuration: verify the processor, RAM, storage, Windows edition, and screen resolution on the checkout listing.
- Keyboard and region: confirm QWERTY or AZERTY, plus the correct charger plug and regional compatibility.
- Returns and warranty: identify the warranty provider, return window, and where service is handled. Avenir’s professional catalog alone does not establish the terms for a particular retail purchase.
- Condition and support: check whether the machine is new, refurbished, or imported, and whether replacement parts or service are available in your country.
- Delivered price: include taxes, shipping, and any import costs. Compare that amount with alternatives carrying a clearly stated warranty.
The practical takeaway: EnergyBook is a genuine laptop line, but the $199 headline is a launch-era starting-price claim—not a promise that a suitable model is available today at that price. Judge a specific listing by its configuration, total cost, seller, and support terms.
