On April 16, 2007, Eltek ASA said its Eltek Energy subsidiary had agreed to acquire Richardson, Texas-based Valere Power. The planned combination, branded Eltek Valere, was described as a more-than-$500 million supplier with over 1,300 employees, sales in 100 countries and operations in 25. Eltek also said it would become the world’s second-largest provider of DC power systems—a claim attributed to the announcement, not independently verified by the available market data.
What Eltek announced on April 16, 2007
Eltek Energy agreed to acquire Valere Power, a telecom-power company founded in 2001. The operating business was intended to use the name Eltek Valere and serve telecommunications and industrial customers.

The contemporary report uses the language of an acquisition, not an equal merger. It does not disclose the purchase price, whether consideration was cash or stock, financing terms, closing conditions or a precise legal completion date. The $500 million figure describes the proposed combined business; it is not a stated purchase price or audited post-closing result. The April 2007 announcement provides the transaction’s principal details.

Why Valere was attractive
Fast growth in the United States
Valere reported average annual sales growth of 77% from 2004 through 2006, 2006 revenue of $88 million and first-quarter 2007 revenue growth of 44% year over year. Its customers included Verizon and AT&T. Those references identify customers; they do not represent endorsements or establish that either company remained a customer after the acquisition.
#1 Best Overall
- This R48-2900U rectifier module delivers a consistent 48V DC output with a maximum 50A current rating, providing 2900W of total power for connected industrial and telecom equipment.
- The hot-swappable design allows for quick replacement without shutting down the connected power system, reducing downtime during maintenance or component swaps.
- Constructed with heat-resistant industrial-grade materials to support steady operation within standard telecom and industrial power supply operating temperature ranges.
- Compatible with rack-mounted communication systems, distributed power supply cabinets, and other industrial DC power applications that require 48V regulated input.
- Features built-in overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection circuitry to safeguard both the module and connected electronic devices from operational damage.
Compact, efficient power technology
Valere’s appeal was described in terms of smaller, more efficient AC/DC systems. In telecom sites, compact equipment can increase capacity in crowded rooms or racks, while lower power dissipation can reduce cooling requirements. The available 2007 report does not provide a Valere product datasheet or a standardized efficiency test, so later Eltek efficiency figures should not be assigned retroactively to Valere products.
What Eltek Energy contributed
Eltek Energy supplied DC power systems, installation-related services and other products for telecom and industrial applications. Its established international operations and broader portfolio complemented Valere’s U.S. growth and technology focus.
Rank #2
- Maximum AC voltage input: single 18V
- Board size: 50mm*25mm
- With red LED indicator
- AC Single to DC Single Single Power Supply
- Manufacturer's One-year After-sale Warranty.
- Geography: Eltek said the transaction would more than double its U.S. revenue and strengthen its position in India, while Valere supplied a substantial U.S. installed base.
- Portfolio: Eltek brought a wider range of systems and deployment capabilities rather than relying on a single compact-power product line.
- Customers: Valere added major U.S. telecom relationships; Eltek had multinational, regional and national infrastructure reach.
- Organization: Valere CEO Andy Marsh was designated CEO of the combined business, and Valere CFO Ken Vines was to continue as CFO. The three Valere co-founders were expected to remain.
What “DC power provider” means in telecom
Telecom networks generally use centralized DC plants to turn utility AC into regulated DC power for network equipment. A typical installation combines rectifiers, distribution panels, batteries, battery-disconnect equipment, controllers, alarms and remote monitoring. The batteries and control system keep critical equipment operating during utility interruptions and provide orderly expansion as load grows.

Its cited scalable systems are 48 VDC configurations ranging from 3,000 to 20,000 amps when cabled, with up to 48 configurable distribution positions in the specified configuration; those are current, model-dependent specifications, not proof of what Valere sold in 2007. - The unit includes standardized mounting hardware and electrical connection ports that align with common industrial power supply interface requirements for straightforward installation and setup.
Why density and efficiency mattered
Telecom operators were seeking more output from constrained facilities, lower conversion losses, simpler installation and better remote supervision. A smaller rectifier platform can free rack space and reduce heat, but efficiency comparisons are meaningful only when voltage, load, temperature and measurement method match.
A later Eltek retrospective says its Compact DC Power System launched in 2004 at a reported 92% efficiency and later used rectifiers reaching 96% peak efficiency. Those historical figures belong to the Eltek product history described in that retrospective, not automatically to Valere’s 2007 products. Read the retrospective.

How credible was the “second-largest” claim?
Eltek’s announcement said the combined company would be the world’s second-largest provider of DC power systems. The available contemporary coverage does not identify the market-sizing method, the largest competitor, the revenue comparison, shipment measure, installed-base calculation or an independent analyst ranking.

It may have been based on revenue, shipments, installed base or another measure, but the announcement does not say which. The evidence does support a significant increase in scale and geographic coverage; it does not independently prove a global rank.

What can—and cannot—be established about the aftermath
Evidence of the Eltek Valere identity
Product documents from 2008 and 2009 carry the Eltek Valere name, including Flatpack2 documentation and X-series rectifier documentation. This confirms the intended operating identity appeared in later product literature.
Today’s corporate context
Current Eltek materials describe Eltek as a Delta Group company or brand supplying power-conversion, battery-backup, distribution, monitoring and DC-power systems. That is successor context, not proof that the 2007 company, products, ownership or management remained unchanged in every respect. Eltek’s current overview explains the present identity.
Facts the announcement does not establish
- The acquisition price, consideration structure or exact closing date.
- Actual post-closing revenue, market share or a verified second-place ranking.
- Whether all announced employees, countries and operations were retained.
- How product lines were ultimately consolidated.
- Whether any planned separate U.S. or exchange listing was pursued.
Important identity and evidence cautions
“Eltek” can refer to different businesses. Do not confuse this Norwegian telecom-power history with Eltek Ltd., the separate Israeli printed-circuit-board manufacturer identified in SEC filings. Likewise, current Flatpack2, Smartpack or 380-VDC specifications should not be treated as specifications for Valere products in 2007 without contemporaneous documentation.
Bottom line
The acquisition joined a rapidly growing U.S. telecom-power supplier with an established international systems company. Its clearest, supportable significance was complementary geography, customers, technology and scale, culminating in the Eltek Valere identity. The “second-largest provider” description remains a statement made in the 2007 announcement, not an independently demonstrated market ranking.
