Short answer: Costco Mobility did offer 100GB bring-your-own-device (BYOD) plans from Virgin Plus and Fido for an effective $39 per month during Black Friday 2024. The promotion was reported on November 29, 2024, and required activation through Costco Mobility. The current public Costco pages reviewed do not show that same $39/100GB offer, so treat it as a historical promotion unless a warehouse representative confirms it in writing.
MobileSyrup reported the original offer; Costco Mobility’s current promotions page now advertises different terms.

The report established the headline price and data allowance, but it did not prove that $39 was a permanent base price. It also did not settle the exact eligibility rules, setup charges, first-bill amount, or what happened after 100GB. Your signed service agreement—not an in-store sign or an old article—controls those details.
Costco Mobility is the retailer, not the carrier
Costco Mobility kiosks are operated by WIRELESS etc., a division of Glentel, inside Canadian Costco warehouses. Virgin Plus and Fido provide the underlying wireless service and bill you directly. Costco’s channel may arrange activation, offer warehouse-only incentives, and help with devices or accessories, but Costco is not replacing the carrier contract.

Costco says availability can vary by warehouse and change without notice. Bring a valid membership card and ask whether membership is required for the specific activation, as well as whether the Costco benefit is a plan discount, Shop Card, accessory, or fee waiver.
Virgin Plus versus Fido
Both brands were listed at the same historical headline price, but they are not identical services. Virgin Plus is associated with Bell’s network, while Fido is associated with Rogers’ network. Coverage and performance depend on your location, device, plan terms and network conditions; neither is universally better.

The standard-definition observation is an attributed detail from the 2024 report, not a universal rule for every Virgin Plus plan today. Ask about 5G access, hotspot use, video quality, roaming, and the post-cap policy for the exact plan being offered.

What BYOD actually requires
BYOD means the $39 service price did not include a new financed phone. Before activating, confirm that your handset:
- Is unlocked and not tied to an unpaid device-financing agreement;
- Supports the carrier’s Canadian LTE and 5G bands;
- Supports VoLTE and other required network features; and
- Does not need to be purchased or financed to qualify for the promotion.
Adding a financed phone changes the monthly economics. Device payments, protection, and device-specific credits are separate from the historical BYOD price.
Is the $39/100GB deal still available?
The current public Costco pages reviewed do not display the old promotion. Costco’s promotions page currently advertises 50GB for $34 per month on BYOD, subject to conditions and in-store details. The public catalogue shows Virgin Plus and Fido 20GB BYOD listings at $45 per month, rather than 100GB for $39.

That does not prove that no warehouse has a local or targeted replacement. The accurate conclusion is: the $39/100GB offer should be treated as expired or unverified unless Costco Mobility confirms it for your province, warehouse and activation date.
Questions to ask before signing
- Is the $39 price active today, and what is the regular price before credits?
- Do credits expire, and is automatic payment required?
- Is eligibility limited to new activations, port-ins, add-a-lines, or particular customers?
- Is the plan BYOD-only?
- What setup, connection, SIM or activation fees apply?
- Are taxes extra, and what will the first invoice include?
- Is 5G included? Is hotspot use included at full speed?
- What happens after the 100GB high-speed allowance: throttling, suspension, overage or an add-on?
- Is video streaming restricted to standard definition?
- What Canadian, U.S. and international roaming charges apply?
- What happens to credits if you change plans, cancel, or miss an automatic payment?
- Are there Costco Shop Cards or other incentives, and when are they delivered?
- Can you receive the complete terms and pricing in writing?
Why the first bill may be higher than $39
A headline monthly price is not necessarily the first amount charged. The first invoice can include taxes, a partial month, the next month billed in advance, setup or connection fees, delayed credits, optional add-ons, and roaming or long-distance charges.
For perspective, a current Costco-listed Rogers 100GB BYOD example shows $50 per month after a $10 automatic-payment discount and an $80 setup service fee. That page is not evidence that the same fee applied to the 2024 Virgin Plus or Fido offer; it illustrates why you must inspect the exact plan disclosure. See the Rogers listing for the example.

Who would have benefited?
The promotion was potentially strong for a heavy Canadian-data user who already owned a compatible phone, had dependable Bell or Rogers coverage, and did not need included U.S. or international roaming. At $39 for 100GB, the headline data cost was about $0.39 per included gigabyte before tax, although that calculation says nothing about network quality or plan restrictions.
It could be a poor fit if you use less than 20–30GB monthly, need Canada-U.S. roaming, want a new phone financed, require unrestricted high-resolution streaming, need smartwatch or tablet support, depend on a weak Bell or Rogers network, prefer prepaid service, or would lose a valuable grandfathered, multi-line or home-internet discount.
Alternatives to check
Costco’s catalogue includes Lucky Mobile, Chatr, Virgin Plus, Fido, Bell, Rogers and SaskTel. The catalogue has shown lower-data examples such as 35GB Chatr for $29 per month and 20GB Lucky Mobile for $19, but prices and conditions can change. A cheaper plan may be better if your usage is moderate; a Canada-U.S. plan may be better if you travel frequently.

Compare the total cost, coverage at home and work, roaming, hotspot rules, video treatment, device financing, credit duration and first-bill fees—not just the data number.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Costco’s Virgin Plus and Fido 100GB BYOD offer at $39 per month was a genuine Black Friday 2024 promotion, not a current price you should assume is still available. The public Costco pages reviewed now show different offers. If a kiosk advertises the deal again, verify the base price, credits, fees, eligibility, data-cap treatment and roaming terms in writing before switching.
