Short answer: the claim that Chatr offered “10GB of bonus data for 12 months” combines two different Quebec promotions reported in August 2024. The documented 10GB bonus was 10GB per month for 24 months on a reported $34/month 4G plan. The separate 12-month promotion was 5GB per month for 12 months on a reported $25/month plan. Chatr’s current public plan page does not display either historical offer, so do not assume the deal is still available without confirming the exact province, plan and eligibility.
The two promotions behind the headline
The “10GB for 12 months” wording is misleading. A report published August 8, 2024 described two separate Chatr offers for Quebec customers, not one nationwide promotion.

The August 2024 report is the source for those figures. It does not establish that Chatr currently offers 10GB for 12 months.
Monthly bonus data is not a one-time 10GB credit
“10GB per month for 24 months” means an eligible account receives an additional 10GB allocation during each monthly plan cycle for the promotional period. It is not a single 10GB balance that lasts two years, and it should not be described as 240GB available at once.

Likewise, the reported 5GB promotion supplied 5GB in each monthly cycle for 12 months. The plan’s ordinary data, the promotional data and any Auto-pay data are separate components of the monthly allowance. Unused data should not be treated as a growing annual bank: Chatr’s current plan information says unused data does not roll over.
Quebec mattered
The reported $34 and $25 offers were identified specifically as Quebec plans. They should not be presented as Canada-wide deals. Chatr’s regional offerings can differ materially; a separate Chatr plan page explicitly excludes Quebec while listing plans for Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Atlantic Canada and Manitoba.

Check the province selector and the full plan terms at Chatr’s official plans page before relying on a price or data amount. A plan shown in an old article may not appear for your address, province or activation channel.

Is the 10GB promotion still available on August 18, 2026?
The exact historical offer is not shown on the current public Chatr plan page located for this article. That page currently lists different monthly and annual options. This means the 10GB Quebec promotion should be described as historical or unconfirmed, not as an active nationwide deal. Chatr has not been shown here to have published an explicit expiry notice, so the safest conclusion is that availability must be verified directly at checkout or with support.

These are current listings observed on the official page, not confirmation that every plan is offered in every province. Do not confuse an annual allowance with a monthly one, or an Auto-pay addition with the historical 10GB promotion.

The public historical report does not confirm every qualification rule. Before switching or buying a SIM, ask Chatr to confirm:

- Is Auto-pay required for the main promotional data, or only for the extra Auto-pay bonus?
- When does the bonus begin: activation, the first successful payment, or the first monthly anniversary?
- Does changing plans, adding features or allowing the account to become inactive end the bonus?
- Can it be combined with another promotion?
For current Auto-pay bonuses, Chatr says an eligible bonus is added within 48 hours after the first successful payment taken on the monthly anniversary date. Existing customers can enroll through My Chatr. Chatr also says a failed payment or removal from Auto-pay can prevent the bonus, and that credits may be lost when an account becomes inactive or the plan changes.

Plan changes can cost more than expected
Chatr’s current terms warn that plan changes and added features must be completed by the day before the plan anniversary date. A change made too late can result in the current plan fee being charged as well as the new plan or feature fee. A plan change may also remove a promotional credit.
If a bonus does not appear after a qualifying payment, allow the stated 48-hour processing window for current Auto-pay bonuses, then contact Chatr support. Keep screenshots of the offer, plan name, price, province and promised duration.
What happens after the data is used?
Chatr’s current consumer page says unused data does not roll over. A Chatr dealer data-management page says that, for the relevant plan, data may continue after the high-speed allowance is exhausted at reduced speeds of up to 128 kilobits per second until the next anniversary date, compared with speeds of up to 150 Mbps before the allowance is used. Because that is a dealer source rather than the main consumer offer page, confirm the speed policy for the exact plan you select.

- Quebec customers who can see the promotion in their own checkout or obtain written confirmation from Chatr.
- Light or moderate data users who value prepaid service and do not need rollover.
- Customers comfortable keeping Auto-pay active and remaining on the qualifying plan.
Who should look elsewhere?
- Customers who need international roaming or broad Canada-U.S. coverage.
- Anyone who depends on rollover data.
- People unwilling to use recurring Auto-pay payments when a bonus requires it.
- Users who expect the promotional allowance to continue indefinitely after 12 or 24 months.
- Customers outside the eligible province when the offer is region restricted.
Verification checklist
- Set the correct province and confirm the plan’s exact name.
- Record the base data, promotional data and Auto-pay data separately.
- Confirm whether the bonus is monthly, one-time, 12 months or 24 months.
- Ask whether eligibility is limited to new activations, plan changes or a particular retailer.
- Confirm the bonus start date and the date it expires.
- Read the consequences of Auto-pay failure, inactivity and plan changes.
- Check whether unused data expires each cycle and what speed applies afterward.
- Save the confirmation before activating or changing service.
Bottom line: the well-documented Chatr 10GB offer was a Quebec promotion of 10GB per month for 24 months, while the separate 12-month offer was 5GB per month. Chatr’s current public lineup is different, so verify today’s provincial offer rather than relying on the “10GB for 12 months” headline.
