At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Hitachi presented HMAX by Hitachi as an AI portfolio for mobility, energy and industry, alongside three distinct relationships: a physical-AI collaboration involving NVIDIA, a rail-sector collaboration between Hitachi Rail and Google Cloud, and an OT/IoT-security alliance between Hitachi Cyber and Nozomi Networks. The announcements describe a strategy and demonstrations—not one three-way deal or a detailed launch of generally available products.

What Hitachi announced at CES 2026

In a January 8, 2026 announcement, Hitachi framed its CES presence around applying AI to social infrastructure: systems such as transport, energy and industrial operations. Its strategy combines operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), physical products, industrial expertise and AI capabilities, including perception, generative, agentic and physical AI. The company presented HMAX by Hitachi as the portfolio spanning mobility, energy and industry. Hitachi’s CES announcement describes the overall strategy and the three relationships.

The partners address different parts of that strategy. NVIDIA is associated with physical AI, robotics and simulation; Google Cloud’s work is specifically with Hitachi Rail on rail-sector transformation; and Nozomi Networks is working with Hitachi Cyber on OT/IoT monitoring and visibility.

How the three collaborations differ

Partner Hitachi entity Focus What Hitachi said
NVIDIA Hitachi, with participation in a CES Foundry session Physical AI, robotics, simulation and industrial applications Collaboration to accelerate real-world physical-AI applications, plus an NVIDIA-powered AI simulation demonstration.
Google Cloud Hitachi Rail, with GlobalLogic involved Rail-sector cloud AI, cybersecurity and digital engineering Collaboration intended to improve rail productivity, support more autonomous operations and improve energy efficiency.
Nozomi Networks Hitachi Systems Trusted Cyber Management, operating globally as Hitachi Cyber OT/IoT cybersecurity Strategic collaboration for monitoring and visibility in industrial and critical-infrastructure environments.

Hitachi announced or showcased these relationships under its broader CES strategy. It did not describe them as a single three-party partnership.

What HMAX means—and what it does not establish

HMAX is Hitachi’s branded AI and digital-solutions portfolio, not one standalone AI model or piece of hardware. Hitachi describes it as combining data from physical and digital assets, AI capabilities and operational expertise to support visibility, control, automation and optimization across infrastructure. The company said the portfolio had expanded beyond its original rail focus to include mobility, energy and industry.

The CES announcement presents HMAX as a suite and strategic architecture, but does not provide a complete product catalog, standardized pricing model or universal deployment blueprint. Buyers therefore need to identify the particular software, equipment, services, integrations and support included in any proposed HMAX-related engagement.

The NVIDIA collaboration: AI for physical systems

Hitachi and NVIDIA jointly presented a CES Foundry session titled “Pioneering AI Technologies for the Physical World.” Hitachi said the collaboration is intended to accelerate real-world physical-AI applications and support safe AI use in infrastructure and industrial settings. Hitachi named Deepu Talla, NVIDIA vice president and general manager of Robotics and Edge AI, and Arya Barirani, chief marketing officer of Hitachi America, as session presenters.

Hitachi also described an NVIDIA-powered simulation demonstration. Simulation can let teams test and validate AI behavior in complex physical environments before deployment, an important step where mistakes could affect equipment or people. It does not remove the need for real-world validation, safety controls or monitoring of edge cases.

The strategic fit is complementary: NVIDIA brings AI, robotics, edge-computing and simulation capabilities, while Hitachi brings industrial and infrastructure experience. The CES release does not identify a customer, deployment site, production system, performance benchmark or commercial launch date, so it does not establish an autonomous-operations rollout.

The Google Cloud collaboration: a rail-sector effort

Hitachi Rail announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to advance digital transformation in the rail sector. Hitachi said the work would use Google Cloud AI and cybersecurity technologies alongside GlobalLogic’s digital-engineering capabilities. GlobalLogic, part of Hitachi, is described as participating in leadership, execution, technical delivery and strategic alignment—not merely as an outside implementation vendor.

The stated aims include higher operational productivity, support for more autonomous rail operations and improved energy efficiency. The announcement does not specify which Google Cloud services or AI models are involved, nor does it name rail operators, routes or production systems. It is a sector-specific Hitachi Rail collaboration, not a definition of the full HMAX portfolio.

The Nozomi Networks alliance: visibility into OT and IoT

Hitachi Systems Trusted Cyber Management, which operates globally under the Hitachi Cyber brand, announced a strategic collaboration with Nozomi Networks for OT and IoT monitoring and visibility. The arrangement brings together Hitachi Cyber’s industrial and cybersecurity-services background with Nozomi Networks’ OT/IoT security technology, with energy, mobility, manufacturing and other critical-infrastructure settings among the target sectors.

Industrial networks cannot always be monitored or changed like ordinary office IT: equipment may be safety-critical, operate for long lifecycles or be difficult to take offline. Knowing which devices and connections are present is a foundation for finding anomalies, understanding exposure and responding to incidents. Monitoring and visibility are not, by themselves, proof of complete protection or successful incident response.

The CES release does not name a product bundle, price, managed-service tier, customer case study or deployment timetable for the alliance.

What Hitachi showed at CES

Hitachi listed its booth as #8529 in the North Hall. The exhibits were organized around HMAX Mobility, HMAX Energy and HMAX Industry, and also included software-defined vehicle infrastructure, an NVIDIA-powered precision-through-AI simulation demonstration, and Hitachi R&D demonstrations involving frontline workers, logistics and decarbonization. These were CES demonstrations; the announcement does not establish that each exhibit is a commercially deployed system.

Hitachi also described capabilities elsewhere in its exhibition, including battery-sector inspection, roll-press machinery, dry-clean-room and robotic-automation capabilities, and biopharmaceutical process applications. Those examples belong to the wider exhibition and should not be treated as deliverables of the NVIDIA, Google Cloud or Nozomi relationships.

Where the announced approach could apply

Mobility

The broad mobility and rail goals point to possible applications such as predictive maintenance, network optimization, energy management, operator assistance and infrastructure monitoring, as well as gradual progress toward more autonomous operations. Hitachi stated transformation objectives, not quantified results for these use cases.

Energy

AI and connected-asset monitoring could support operational visibility, maintenance planning, facility optimization and cyber-risk management. Hitachi did not announce a specific AI-managed grid or autonomous power plant at CES.

Manufacturing and industry

Potential applications include inspection, process optimization, robotics, simulation, production quality and OT/IT integration. Simulation may help test proposed system behavior, but production outcomes depend on site data, equipment integration and operational validation.

Cybersecurity

The Hitachi Cyber–Nozomi alliance most directly addresses OT asset and network visibility, anomaly monitoring and industrial cyber-risk management. The announcement establishes monitoring and visibility as its focus; it does not provide evidence of improved security efficacy or disclose incident-response results.

What the announcement does not tell buyers

Hitachi’s CES release does not disclose contract values, named customer deployments, quantified commercial revenue, public pricing, detailed product SKUs, performance benchmarks or firm general-availability dates for the announced collaborations. It also does not establish exclusivity, safety certification, production autonomy or a specific return on investment. A collaboration announcement and a trade-show demonstration are not equivalent to a purchasable product or a deployed customer system.

For enterprise buyers, the next step is to establish the exact scope and evidence for the proposed solution. Useful questions include:

  • Deployment scope: Is the project for one plant, rail corridor, fleet, utility asset or a wider enterprise?
  • Integration: How will it connect to existing SCADA, PLC, MES, ERP, EAM, fleet-management and security systems?
  • Architecture: Which workloads need edge, private-environment or public-cloud processing, and what latency or data-residency constraints apply?
  • Safety and authority: Is AI advisory, subject to human approval or permitted to act automatically? Who is accountable for errors?
  • Security operations: How are credentials, firmware, remote access, network segmentation and third-party connections handled? Could monitoring affect fragile OT equipment?
  • Data and models: Who owns operational data and derived models, and how are model drift, false positives, retraining and rollback managed?
  • Lifecycle and maturity: Is the offer a production service, pilot, demonstration or consulting-led integration project, and can the supplier support infrastructure with long operating lives?

Why the strategy matters—and what remains to be proven

Hitachi is positioning itself between frontier AI capabilities and physical infrastructure. That is a different proposition from putting a general-purpose chatbot into an office workflow: decisions may touch train operations, energy assets, industrial production, worker safety, maintenance and connected operational equipment.

Combining AI infrastructure, industrial data and domain-specific engineering could help address complex operational problems. But infrastructure projects also carry burdens that ordinary enterprise software may not: legacy integration, safety validation, cybersecurity, human oversight, regulatory obligations and long asset lifecycles. Cloud scale can offer access to managed services, while some operators may need local processing, isolation or predictable latency. Broader portfolios may simplify coordination but still require substantial systems integration, and a Hitachi-led stack may bring both clearer accountability and greater ecosystem dependence.

The practical test will be whether specific deployments can show reliable performance, safe operating boundaries, sound security, integration with existing systems and measurable benefits. The CES announcement states strategic goals, but gives no CES-specific ROI, accuracy, uptime or emissions figures.
