New Boost Mobile customers cannot sign up for the former “free” iPhone 16 Pro Max offer as of August 18, 2026. Boost ended new enrollment in Infinite Access on June 30, 2026, and its separate Free Year of Service promotion expired November 21, 2025. The original headline described substantial credits tied to a paid service plan—not a no-strings-attached phone giveaway.
Where the “free iPhone” claim came from
Boost’s September 2024 iPhone 16 launch promoted two different ways to reduce costs:

The published plan description priced Infinite Access at $65 per month. It included unlimited talk, text and data subject to Boost’s data-management terms, plus a promotional phone credit. Later terms list credits ranging from $829.99 to $1,000, depending on the promotion and model. Credit approval was required, and a down payment could apply.

- Taxes were calculated on the phone’s entire pre-credit list price.
- Regulatory fees, surcharges, add-ons and other charges were separate from the $65 plan price.
- A phone priced above the applicable credit generated an additional device charge.
- The phone had to be activated on the qualifying Boost plan within 30 days or Boost could charge the full list price.
- After 12 consecutive active months, an eligible customer could request an annual upgrade, subject to returning or trading in the current device and the applicable terms.
- Boost’s terms say data speeds may be reduced to 512 kbps after 30GB of usage in a billing cycle.

Why the iPhone 16 Pro Max was not necessarily free
“Up to $1,000 off” is different from a free phone. If the selected configuration cost more than the credit, the customer owed the difference, while also paying tax on the full pre-credit price and continuing the $65 service plan.

This is an example, not a current quote: with a $1,000 credit and a $1,199.99 list price, the uncovered device amount would be about $199.99. Spread over 36 months, that is approximately $5.56 per month, in addition to the $65 plan, taxes, fees and any required down payment. Actual prices, storage tiers, credits and inventory depended on the offer and financing agreement. Check the checkout screen and contract rather than relying on an old headline.
What “free year of service” meant
The expired offer did not waive the iPhone price. Customers first bought an eligible phone outright, then received monthly service credits for up to 12 months. Activation, a qualifying plan, autopay with a valid credit card and continued good standing were required. Taxes, surcharges, add-ons and amounts exceeding the monthly credit were not necessarily covered. Canceling or failing the conditions could stop future credits; after the promotional period, normal service charges resumed. The archived Free Year of Service terms date the offer from August 27, 2024, through November 21, 2025.
What changed on June 30, 2026?
Boost stopped accepting new Infinite Access lines on June 30, 2026. Customers already enrolled generally keep their plan, credits and upgrade benefits if they continue meeting the terms. Customers who purchased through Apple had a separate July 14, 2026 cutoff identified in the terms. A historical landing page may still appear in search results, but the cutoff controls new-line eligibility.
Can an existing Infinite Access customer upgrade?
Possibly, but an upgrade is not a guarantee of an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Model, storage, color, inventory and any over-credit charge can vary, and the plan may offer the latest qualifying family rather than a specific older model.

- Open the Boost Mobile app and check Infinite Access or upgrade eligibility.
- Confirm that 12 qualifying monthly payments have posted and the account remains in good standing.
- Review the exact model, storage, tax, device credit and any additional charge shown.
- If proceeding, follow the app’s trade-in or return instructions and keep shipment tracking.
Ask Boost before changing plans; switching away can end grandfathered credits or upgrade rights.
What new customers can do instead
There is no current new-customer path to enroll in the old Pro Max Infinite Access offer. Check Boost’s current deals page for replacement promotions; its visible iPhone offer is for an iPhone 16e, not the historical Pro Max deal. Availability and pricing can change.

Buy an unlocked phone
Buying from Apple or another authorized seller avoids a discontinued Boost promotion and preserves carrier flexibility, but you pay the device cost upfront or through separate financing.
Compare carrier trade-in offers
Another carrier may offer bill credits requiring a trade-in, port-in or premium plan. Credits can stop if you cancel early, so compare the full obligation rather than the advertised monthly phone price.
Consider used or refurbished
Check battery health, activation lock, carrier lock, parts-and-service history, IMEI status, warranty and the seller’s return policy before buying.

- Exact iPhone model, storage tier and condition
- Full list price and promotional credit amount
- Sales tax calculation and upfront payment
- Monthly service price, financing term and activation fee
- Credit qualification, port-in or trade-in requirements
- Minimum service period and what happens if you cancel or change plans
- Unlock timing and restrictions
- Coverage at home, work and travel locations
- Data-management or deprioritization limits
- Whether the specific color and storage configuration is actually in stock

Verdict
The Boost headline was based on a real, time-limited 2024 promotion. Infinite Access could make some iPhone 16 models effectively free after credits, but a Pro Max could still require an additional device payment, full-price tax and a $65 monthly plan. New enrollment ended June 30, 2026, while the Free Year of Service offer ended November 21, 2025. Treat any current “free iPhone 16 Pro Max” claim as outdated unless a live checkout page supplies new written terms.
