Yes—but Reddit Gold itself is not cash. Eligible users can earn payouts through Reddit’s Contributor Program when other users spend Gold to award their qualifying posts or comments. Reddit’s current published rate is $0.01 per Gold used for contributors with at least 5,000 karma, and $0.009 per Gold for those with 100–4,999 karma. Users must enroll, pass verification, meet the payout threshold and remain eligible; purchased Gold cannot simply be withdrawn.
Reddit’s rates and rules can change. The figures below reflect its published guidance as of August 18, 2026.

How Reddit turns awarded Gold into a possible payout
The process distinguishes four things that are easy to confuse:

- Gold used on an award: when another user awards eligible content, Reddit records the amount of Gold used. Gold is not transferred to the recipient as spendable currency.
- Potential earnings: Reddit applies the recipient’s applicable karma-tier rate to qualifying Gold used. Karma sets the rate tier; it is not itself a cash payment.
- Cash payout: an enrolled, eligible contributor may receive a payout after meeting Reddit’s minimum and completing payment and identity checks.
In short, the program uses Gold spent by other users on qualifying content as a measure for calculating a possible payout. It does not let you cash out Gold you bought or send Gold directly to another Redditor as money. See Reddit’s Gold rules and its Contributor Program overview.

Reddit Contributor Program rates
Reddit’s published payout table sets the nominal rate by total account karma:

“Top Contributor” is Reddit’s name for the 5,000-karma tier, not a claim that an account ranks among the site’s globally most popular users. The rate is per Gold used, not per award: awards can use different amounts of Gold.
These examples multiply Gold used by Reddit’s published nominal rates. They are gross illustrations, not guaranteed deposits; fees, refunds, chargebacks, content removals and eligibility decisions can change the final amount.

Reddit’s payout table and earnings guidance are the authority for current rates. Do not treat the rate as a fixed share of the price an awarder paid: Gold package prices differ by package and purchase platform.
Who can qualify?
There are general program conditions and a separate Contributor Program threshold. Reddit’s current guidance says participants must:

- Be at least 18, or meet the applicable minimum age in their country.
- Live in a country where Reddit supports payouts.
- Have a Reddit account in good standing and continue to meet eligibility rules when payment is due.
- Accept Reddit’s Earn Terms and Earn Policy and complete enrollment.
- Have qualifying contributions within the past year, at least 100 total karma and at least $10 in potential earnings to meet the Contributor enrollment threshold.
Moderators may participate under the same general requirements; moderator status does not provide a higher rate. The program is not available everywhere, and the supported-country list can change. Check Reddit’s live earning-money eligibility page before relying on availability in your country.
How to enroll
Reddit’s current interface instructions are:
- On mobile: while logged in, open the hamburger menu near the top-left of the home feed. Scroll to Resources and tap Earn.
- On desktop: click your avatar at the top-right, then choose Earn in the side drawer.
- Review the eligibility information. If Reddit says you are eligible, select Enroll Now or the enrollment banner.
- Complete identity verification and set up the payout connection.
Reddit says that if Earn does not appear in the side drawer, the account is not currently eligible to enroll. Interface labels can change, so use Reddit’s current enrollment instructions if the path differs.

Enrollment requires a verified email address and personal information such as legal name, date of birth and country of residence. Reddit uses Persona for identity verification and Stripe Connect for payouts. Depending on your situation, Stripe may request an address, a Social Security number or ITIN, government ID, and bank-account and routing details or a debit-card number. Reddit’s Contributor Terms also refer to tax forms such as W-9 and W-8BEN, or acceptable alternatives, depending on the recipient’s circumstances.
Provide information only through Reddit’s official enrollment flow. Keep records of payouts and consult a qualified tax professional about your own reporting obligations; tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and jurisdiction.
The $10 threshold is not the same as a $10 deposit
Reddit’s minimum payout is $10, alongside the 100-karma requirement. Earnings below the threshold roll over. Reddit also says it deducts a Stripe transaction fee of $2.25 plus 0.25% from each payout, with an additional 1% currency-conversion fee when payment is made in a currency other than U.S. dollars.

That fixed fee makes a small payout proportionally expensive. For example, a nominal $10 payout would lose at least $2.25 plus the percentage charge before any currency-conversion fee. At the Top Contributor rate, 1,000 qualifying Gold nominally equals $10 before deductions; do not assume that crossing the threshold means $10 will land in your account. Reddit’s payout guidance explains fees and threshold rules.
Which awards and content count?
Not every award or post qualifies. Reddit says free awards that were not purchased with Gold and legacy awards—including the old Silver, Gold and Platinum awards—do not count toward current eligibility criteria. Awards received before February 2025 may not appear in the awards list, although Reddit says they can still be included in earnings where applicable. A missing dashboard entry therefore does not necessarily prove that an older award was excluded from earnings.
Content restrictions also matter. Reddit excludes or restricts, among other categories, content in quarantined or NSFW communities, sexual or suggestive material, violent content, restricted drug, gambling or firearms content, advertisements, and content encouraging illegal or harmful behavior. The exact rules are in Reddit’s live earning guidance and Contributor Monetization Policy.
If content later violates Reddit’s rules or becomes ineligible, related earnings may be withheld or removed. Refunds and chargebacks can also reduce the amount. Users must have the necessary rights to their contributions; reposting copyrighted material or otherwise infringing someone else’s rights can create both policy and payout problems under the Contributor Terms.

Reddit says payouts arrive 30–45 days after the end of the month in which the threshold and eligibility requirements are satisfied. For example, earnings that qualify in March would generally be paid between April 30 and May 15. This is a processing window, not an immediate cash-out, and payment remains subject to verification and continued eligibility.

What can reduce or stop a payout?
- Fees and currency conversion: the fixed and percentage charges reduce the net payment.
- Refunds or chargebacks: reversed award transactions may reduce earnings.
- Ineligible or removed content: earnings tied to content that violates policy can be excluded or removed.
- Account or enrollment status: you must remain eligible at payout time and complete verification and payment setup.
- Manipulation or fraud: Reddit prohibits attempts to game the program, including self-awarding or other suspicious activity. Reddit says it uses screening and monitoring and can withhold payouts or remove users from the program.
Receiving an award does not guarantee a final payout. Reddit’s Earn Policy and program terms govern enforcement and payout decisions.
Is it worth pursuing?
The Contributor Program can provide incidental income to someone whose eligible posts or comments already attract awards. It is not a predictable wage: Gold depends on other users’ choices, the payout rate is modest, the minimum and fixed fee weigh heavily on small balances, and eligibility is conditional. High karma alone earns nothing; it only determines the rate applied to qualifying Gold.
It is also misleading to compare the recipient’s nominal payout directly with the awarder’s Gold purchase price as though every award had one fixed retail cost. Reddit lists different Gold package prices on web and mobile, while the payout calculation is based on Gold used, not the awarder’s receipt total. The practical takeaway is to treat earnings as uncertain supplementary income, not a reason to spam or post engagement bait.
Not the same as Reddit’s developer programs
The Contributor Program pays qualifying recipients based on awards and karma on posts and comments. Reddit’s separate Developer Program concerns Gold spent on digital goods inside developers’ apps, while Developer Funds are another route for eligible developers meeting Reddit’s criteria. Those programs are not ways to cash out ordinary Gold balances.
