Connect the domain to your website or email

- Another web host: Use the nameservers or DNS records supplied by that provider. The exact records and menu path depend on the host.
- Not ready to launch: Leave the domain parked or configure a redirect if that is what you need; you can connect it to a site later.
- Email already in use: Preserve or recreate the mail provider’s MX and other required DNS records before changing nameservers. A nameserver change can disrupt existing email if those records are not carried over.

Bluehost’s general pricing/help information describes a possible period of up to 30 days before redemption and lists a $99 redemption fee. Do not treat those terms as guaranteed for every .io registration: expiration handling depends on the extension’s terms and applicable registration rules. Check the terms for your specific domain and act promptly if it expires.
For a transfer into Bluehost, you generally need to unlock the domain at the current registrar, obtain its EPP or authorization code, and make sure contact information is current. Bluehost says its standard transfer process can take up to seven days; timing is not guaranteed, and extension rules apply. Review its transfer instructions before starting, and avoid changing DNS during a transfer if the registrar warns that changes may be unavailable.
Before you commit to the name
Domain availability is not trademark clearance. Search relevant trademark databases and existing businesses or products, check social handles, and consider common misspellings or confusion with established brands.
