Bluehost eCommerce Premium is most useful when a WooCommerce store needs several of its bundled commerce tools—not simply because the store needs “more hosting.” It combines WordPress and WooCommerce hosting with features such as gift cards, bookings, product filters, wishlists and marketplace inventory management. A basic store may be better served by the cheaper Essentials plan; a business with demanding traffic or custom infrastructure needs should compare specialist hosting or a hosted platform.
There is an important pricing caveat: Bluehost’s U.S. pages show Premium at $21.99 per month on a 36-month term, but disagree on its renewal price. Check the total, term and renewal amount in checkout before buying.
What Bluehost eCommerce Premium is
eCommerce Premium is a WordPress hosting plan configured for WooCommerce. Bluehost says WordPress and WooCommerce are pre-installed, and its plan bundles hosting, security and site-management features with a collection of store extensions. It is not a turnkey hosted storefront in the same sense as Shopify: you operate a WordPress site and remain responsible for products, store settings, content, policies, taxes, fulfillment and many day-to-day decisions. Bluehost’s eCommerce plan page describes its WordPress-based offering.

Bluehost eCommerce Premium pricing
The U.S. eCommerce landing page currently displays Premium at $21.99 per month for a 36-month term, with renewal at $30.99 per month. Essentials is displayed at $14.99 per month for 36 months, renewing at $21.99 per month. However, Bluehost’s separate WooCommerce pricing page lists Premium renewal at $38.99 per month and Essentials renewal at $32.99 per month. These published renewal prices conflict, so neither should be assumed to apply to every checkout.
At the displayed introductory Premium rate, the 36-month hosting commitment is $791.64 ($21.99 × 36), before taxes or other charges. At $30.99 per month, a year at the landing-page renewal signal would be $371.88; at $38.99, it would be $467.88. These are calculations from the displayed rates, not a quote for your checkout. Prices, promotions, terms and taxes may vary by location and purchase flow. The landing page also shows a limited-time $75 Amazon gift card offer for Premium and $50 for Essentials; verify eligibility and terms rather than counting a promotion as a guaranteed discount.
Before paying, confirm the upfront total, initial term, renewal rate, included extension licenses and any taxes in the checkout summary. Also budget for the domain after its first year, payment-provider fees, paid themes or extensions, email marketing, SMS, shipping services, developer help, and any extra backup or security services you choose. Migration, redesign and a later move to another host can add one-time costs.
What is included?
Bluehost’s comparison page lists the following hosting and site features for both Essentials and Premium. Inclusion does not mean every feature is unlimited or that the plan replaces a separate disaster-recovery or security strategy.
| Area | Listed on both plans | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Site and storage | Up to 100 websites; 100 GB NVMe storage; AI site-creation tools; free domain for the first year; site migration tool | “Up to 100 websites” is not a promise that 100 busy stores will perform well on one account. Check domain renewal terms and migration scope. |
| Delivery and updates | Free Cloudflare CDN with Argo Routing; managed WordPress updates | A CDN can help deliver static files, but dynamic cart, checkout and account requests still depend on the site and hosting resources. Test caching carefully. |
| Security and recovery | Free SSL, malware scanning, malware detection and removal, web application firewall, DDoS protection, daily backups, first-year domain privacy | Confirm backup retention and restoration options. Security tools reduce risk, but do not guarantee a secure site or replace off-site backups and strong account practices. |
| Support and SEO | 24/7 chat and phone support; Yoast SEO Free | Do not assume hosting support includes custom WooCommerce development or resolution of every third-party plugin conflict. |
Both plans also list secure payment processing, WooCommerce auto-installation, subscriptions, memberships, the free version of Sensei LMS for paid courses, WooCommerce email templates and social-login functionality. A bundled or installed tool is not necessarily fully configured for your business, and payment processing is not the same as free transaction processing. Check the relevant service’s tier, licensing, geographic availability and fees.
What Premium adds over Essentials
Bluehost’s comparison marks these tools unavailable on Essentials and included on Premium:
- WooCommerce Affiliates and Advanced Reviews
- WooCommerce Wishlist and Ajax Product Filter
- Customize My Account Page and a store/business locator
- SMS integration through a partner such as Twilio
- Shippo
- Booking and Appointment for WooCommerce
- WooCommerce Gift Cards
- One-click checkout and WonderCart
- Catalog Mode, Product Addons and Product Comparison
- Marketplace Inventory Management
These are the strongest reasons to consider the upgrade. Compare the extensions you actually need with what Premium includes, then check their licensing, usage and support terms. Bundling may cost less than purchasing equivalent tools individually, but a large plugin set can also mean more updates, compatibility checks and troubleshooting. “Included” should not be read as “free forever” unless the applicable plan terms explicitly say so.
Who should choose Premium?
Premium can make sense if your store will use several of its additional functions from the outset or if their bundled availability simplifies your setup. Examples include:
- A membership or subscription business that also needs advanced merchandising tools.
- An appointment-based business that needs booking functionality alongside its store.
- A seller offering gift cards, product add-ons, comparisons or filtered catalog browsing.
- A retailer that can make practical use of marketplace inventory management.
- A store that wants these features in WordPress and accepts responsibility for maintaining a WooCommerce site.
Essentials is likely enough for a small or new store selling standard products with ordinary checkout and shipping, especially if you do not need bookings, gift cards, advanced reviews, filters, subscriptions or the other Premium-only tools. Start with the lower tier when your requirements are basic; upgrade when a specific feature justifies the extra cost. Before upgrading, compare Premium’s price difference with the cost and maintenance burden of buying only the extensions you need separately.
What Premium does not solve
Hosting and plugins do not run the whole business for you. You still need to set product prices, maintain accurate inventory, arrange fulfillment, respond to customers, create privacy and returns policies, and understand the tax rules that apply to your sales. A payment option does not automatically provide tax registration or calculation, and a shipping-label tool does not decide your delivery rates, customs or returns policy.
Bluehost describes payment processing as included, but the payment provider may charge transaction, fixed, currency-conversion, dispute or payout fees. Bluehost’s pricing page also contains a general 2–3% per-transaction statement; do not treat that as a universal Bluehost charge. Rates and payment methods depend on the gateway, merchant eligibility, country, card and transaction details. Confirm that a gateway supports your region and, if needed, recurring payments and tokenization. Check how it handles refunds, chargebacks, digital wallets and payment data.
Likewise, SSL, malware tools, a firewall and DDoS protection are useful controls, not a complete security guarantee. Use strong authentication, limit administrator access, vet extensions, keep the site patched and retain backups you can restore. Ask Bluehost what its malware remediation covers and how backups are retained and restored before relying on them as your only recovery plan.

Performance and growth: assess the workload
Bluehost advertises managed updates, CDN and caching features, global data centers and a 99.99% uptime claim on its WooCommerce pricing page. Those are provider claims, not independent performance measurements or a guarantee that a particular store will meet its speed or availability needs.
WooCommerce performance depends on more than the plan label: hosting resources, database queries, theme and plugin quality, image sizes, third-party integrations, traffic peaks and simultaneous checkout activity all matter. Cart, checkout and account pages are dynamic; caching them improperly can show the wrong customer data or break orders. A CDN may help with static images and files, but it does not remove every database or checkout bottleneck.
For a growing store, assess product and variation counts, concurrent shoppers, subscription renewals, booking volume, inventory synchronization, database and media growth, geographic customer distribution, traffic spikes, and your need for staging and rollback. Ask for workload-relevant performance information before treating any plan as adequate for a high-volume store. A complex catalog or custom ERP, wholesale pricing, tax rules or checkout flow may call for development work or a specialist managed WooCommerce, VPS or cloud setup.

How customizable is it?
WordPress themes and page builders let you adjust the storefront’s look; WooCommerce settings and extensions add store functions. Premium’s bundled plugins expand the available toolkit, but they do not automatically implement bespoke business logic. Custom PHP, JavaScript, CSS or template work may be needed for unusual pricing, checkout, integrations or workflows. WooCommerce is open source, so Bluehost’s plan does not define every feature that can exist in a WooCommerce store; the trade-off is that custom work and ongoing compatibility remain your responsibility.

Before adopting a plugin-heavy setup, document each extension and what data it owns. If you later move hosts or replace a bundled tool, you may need to migrate its settings or data, and custom integrations can make a move more involved.

- Choose the plan and term. Review the full checkout total and renewal terms before purchase.
- Set up the domain. Register a new domain or connect one you already own, and note when any introductory domain offer ends.
- Complete the WordPress and WooCommerce setup. Bluehost says WooCommerce is pre-installed; confirm the store is ready to configure rather than assuming every business setting is already complete.
- Choose a theme and establish branding. Check mobile layouts, accessibility and how product and checkout pages render.
- Set store fundamentals. Enter business details, store location and currency, and determine how tax rules apply to your business.
- Configure payments. Choose an available gateway, complete its merchant approval steps and test both successful and failed payments. Confirm recurring-payment support if selling subscriptions.
- Add products. Create products and variations, images, inventory and shipping classes; check that descriptions, stock status and prices display correctly.
- Set operating policies and communications. Configure shipping zones and rates, refunds, transactional emails and required pages such as privacy, terms, shipping, returns and contact information.
- Enable only needed Premium tools. Set up bookings, memberships, subscriptions, gift cards or other extensions only when they fit the business and have been tested for compatibility.
- Test the full customer journey. Check browsing, search and filters, cart, checkout, payment success and failure, refunds, emails, mobile use, coupons, tax calculations and shipping rates.
- Prepare for launch and updates. Confirm backups and security controls. Test theme and plugin changes on staging before applying them to the live store when staging is available.
- Monitor operations. Watch orders, errors, abandoned carts, uptime and performance after launch; revise the setup based on real store behavior.
The cited Bluehost pages confirm migration tooling, support and managed updates, but they do not establish every current dashboard label or setting path. The sequence above describes tasks, not a promised menu-by-menu interface.
Moving an existing store to Bluehost
Bluehost lists a site migration tool on both plans and describes migration as possible without downtime. That should not be read as a guarantee of uninterrupted checkout: DNS changes, plugin compatibility, email configuration or order synchronization can still cause problems.

Bluehost versus other options
| Option | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Bluehost eCommerce Essentials | A basic WooCommerce store that does not need Premium-only tools | Lower displayed plan price, but individual extensions may be needed for additional features. |
| Bluehost eCommerce Premium | A WordPress store that will use several bundled commerce tools | More features do not prove greater performance; verify the renewal price and extension terms. |
| Another managed WooCommerce host | A merchant that needs specific staging, caching, database support or developer-level assistance | Compare the actual service scope, performance evidence, support boundaries and full renewal cost. |
| Shopify or BigCommerce | A team that prefers a hosted commerce platform and less responsibility for WordPress infrastructure and plugin upkeep | Different subscription, app, payment and customization models; assess current terms for your market and needs. |
| VPS or cloud infrastructure | A technical team needing control over configuration and scaling | More control also means more responsibility for security, deployment, monitoring and operations. |
No platform is automatically cheaper, faster or more scalable for every store. Compare on the same workload and include both software and operating effort, not just the advertised monthly rate.
A simple cost check before buying
- Initial hosting commitment: displayed monthly rate × required term. At $21.99 for 36 months, that is $791.64 before taxes or other charges.
- First-year effective cost: allocate the hosting commitment across the first year, then add domain or renewal costs, required add-ons and any setup work.
- Renewal-year cost: multiply the checkout-confirmed renewal rate by 12; use the conflicting published figures as a reason to verify, not as a settled quote.
- Three-year ownership cost: add the initial commitment, any renewal periods that fall within your horizon, payment fees, extensions, themes, email, SMS, shipping services and maintenance.
A store can be inexpensive to launch and still costly to operate. Make the decision based on the features you will use, the renewal price you can confirm and the work your team is prepared to manage.
