Best Buy did not provide enough reliable evidence for a currently active, storewide “massive sale” as of September 14, 2026. The latest documented snapshot, dated August 18, showed several worthwhile unlocked-phone prices—but also expired promotional banners and carrier offers whose headline savings depended on activation and trade-in requirements.
The clearest bargains were the unlocked Google Pixel 10 Pro 128GB at a documented $699, the Pixel 10 Pro 256GB at $849, the Pixel 10 Pro XL 256GB at $949, the 512GB Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 at $699.99, and the unlocked Samsung Galaxy A17 5G at $199.99. Check the exact product page before paying because these prices, stock levels, sellers, conditions, and expiration dates can change.

What the latest documented Best Buy deals actually show
The strongest evidence is for a group of discounted Android listings, not one uniformly active promotion. Some products were labeled “Black Friday in July Deal,” even though that label does not prove the price remained active in August or September. A prominent Galaxy Z banner showed an August 6, 2026 expiration date, which had already passed by the August 18 snapshot.
That distinction matters. A $150 reduction in the phone’s price is not equivalent to “save up to $1,200” after a qualifying trade-in, carrier activation, installment plan, and months of bill credits.

The first five are the clearest specific prices in the documented snapshot. The remaining five are promotional lanes, not guaranteed prices. Treat them as opportunities to inspect—not as confirmed discounts—until the product page displays the terms.

Best overall value: Pixel 10 Pro 128GB
At the documented $699 price, the 128GB Pixel 10 Pro was the most compelling lower-cost flagship candidate. It is the logical choice for a buyer who wants a premium phone without carrier activation. The trade-off is storage: 128GB is adequate for light users who rely on cloud storage, but it leaves less room for large games, offline video, and years of photos.
Best long-term storage value: Pixel 10 Pro 256GB
The documented $849 256GB version costs $150 more than the 128GB model. That premium can be sensible if you keep phones for several years, take lots of photos and video, or dislike managing storage. It is not automatically the better deal for a light user.
Best big-screen bargain: Pixel 10 Pro XL
The 256GB Pixel 10 Pro XL appeared at $949. Choose it for the larger display and extra physical space, not simply because the sticker price is higher. Confirm the exact model and whether the listing is new and sold by Best Buy before comparing it with the smaller Pro.

Best foldable price: Motorola Razr Ultra 2025
The $699.99 documented price for the unlocked 512GB Razr Ultra was potentially the most eye-catching offer. Its storage is generous for photos, apps, and video, and the foldable design gives it a use case conventional phones do not.

Foldables also carry different risks. Check hinge and inner-screen coverage, repair pricing, water- and dust-resistance limitations, case availability, battery expectations, and Motorola’s remaining Android and security-update commitment. A conventional flagship is safer if durability and low repair risk matter more than compactness.
Best budget pick: Galaxy A17 5G
The Galaxy A17 5G was shown at $199.99, down from a displayed $249.99 reference price. That is a direct price reduction rather than a carrier-credit figure, but it is still a budget phone. Expect a greater compromise in camera quality, processor performance, display quality, charging, and materials than with the Pixel or Razr.
It is a sensible choice for calls, messaging, streaming, navigation, and light photography. It is a poor fit for demanding games, flagship cameras, or buyers who want the longest useful life without checking Samsung’s current support policy.

Carrier deals: when “save up to” is really worth it
Best Buy’s Galaxy Z and Galaxy S26 promotions may produce a lower effective cost for the right customer, but they are not equivalent to buying an unlocked phone at a sale price.

The advertised maximum is not the checkout price. It can depend on your trade-in device, its condition, a new line or upgrade, a qualifying unlimited plan, installment billing, and bill credits spread across many months. Taxes, activation fees, and the required service plan remain part of the real cost.
Use this calculation:
Effective cost = phone price + activation fees + required plan cost during the credit period + taxes − immediate trade-in credit − bill credits actually received
Do not count future bill credits as cash in hand. If you cancel the line, change to an ineligible plan, or leave the carrier before the required period ends, remaining credits may disappear and the unpaid phone balance may become due.

These promotions are most attractive if you already want the carrier’s plan, have a qualifying trade-in, and expect to keep the line active for the entire credit period. They are poor fits for people using a low-cost MVNO, changing carriers frequently, or wanting a phone that is paid off and flexible immediately.
Unlocked does not mean universally compatible
Verify the exact product page rather than relying on Best Buy’s category label. Look for “unlocked,” confirm that activation is not required, and check the model number. A U.S. unlocked model should support the relevant bands and 5G technology for your carrier, but compatibility varies by network and device variant.
Also verify whether the phone works with your physical SIM, eSIM, or both. A phone can be sold in an unlocked category while nearby results show carrier-specific versions, so selecting the wrong listing can change both the price and the activation requirements.
Storage guide: 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB?
- 128GB: Fine for light users, cloud backups, modest photography, and a small app library. It is the cheapest choice but offers the least flexibility.
- 256GB: The safer middle ground for long-term ownership, frequent photos, games, and downloaded video. It is often worth considering when the price gap is reasonable.
- 512GB: Best for heavy camera users, large games, extensive offline media, and foldables that may not offer expandable storage. Do not pay for it if you will never use the capacity.
Clearance, open-box, and marketplace warnings
Clearance describes pricing, not necessarily condition. Before checkout, distinguish among new, open-box, refurbished, pre-owned, and marketplace-sold listings. Confirm who sells and ships the phone, the return window, warranty coverage, battery condition where applicable, and whether accessories are included.

A cheap third-party listing may not provide the same warranty or return experience as a new phone sold and shipped by Best Buy. Do not rank it alongside new inventory without making the condition explicit.

Software support can change the value equation
Before buying any older or clearance model, check the manufacturer’s Android-version commitment, security-update period, date updates began, and whether the phone is already partway through its support window. Unlocked and carrier versions can also receive updates on different schedules.
That check is especially important for the Galaxy A17, the 2025 Razr Ultra, and any clearance device. A lower purchase price is less attractive if the phone has only a short remaining support period.
Checkout checklist
- Confirm the exact model number, storage capacity, color, and U.S. version.
- Make sure the listing says unlocked if you need carrier flexibility.
- Check whether the phone is new, open-box, refurbished, pre-owned, or marketplace-sold.
- Confirm the seller and fulfillment method.
- Test the listed price after selecting the exact color and configuration.
- Read the return policy and warranty terms.
- Check compatibility with your carrier’s bands, SIM, and eSIM requirements.
- For trade-in offers, record the promised value, condition rules, return deadline, credit schedule, and required plan.
- Calculate taxes, activation charges, installments, and service costs—not just the banner savings.
- Check the expiration date and inventory immediately before paying.
