Best overall value: buy an unlocked, reputable refurbished or pre-owned iPhone 14 Pro and keep a low-cost wireless plan. Best warranty: Apple Certified Refurbished, if a suitable configuration is in stock. Best mainstream-retailer choice: a Best Buy-sold unlocked unit with clearly stated returns and warranty. A carrier deal wins only when its bill credits and trade-in value exceed the extra plan, financing, activation, tax and lock-in costs.
The iPhone 14 Pro launched in September 2022, so in 2026 most inventory is refurbished, pre-owned or remaining stock rather than ordinary new retail stock. Prices and availability change quickly; verify the live listing before paying.
Are iPhone 14 Pro carrier deals still available?
Public carrier promotions now concentrate on newer iPhone generations. Apple’s carrier page is a useful starting point, but do not assume an advertised “free iPhone” applies to the discontinued 14 Pro: Apple carrier offers. An existing customer may still see an account-specific upgrade or trade-in offer, so check your account rather than relying only on public advertising.

Apple Certified Refurbished: safest option when available
Apple says its refurbished iPhones receive full functionality testing, replacement of defective modules, a new battery and outer shell, and a one-year limited warranty. Apple also states a 14-day return policy and AppleCare eligibility on the product page. See the 256GB listing at Apple Certified Refurbished iPhone 14 Pro. The cited $759 256GB and $1,019 1TB figures are inventory snapshots from earlier crawls, not guaranteed August 2026 prices. Apple stock can disappear without notice. Pay the premium when a new battery, Apple-backed warranty and straightforward returns matter more than the lowest purchase price.

Best Buy-sold pre-owned
The referenced 128GB Pre-Owned Excellent listing showed $549.99 when crawled. “Pre-Owned Excellent” means the phone was inspected and verified to function but may have cosmetic blemishes and may arrive without original packaging or accessories. Marketplace phones are sold and often shipped by third parties. Observed examples ranged roughly from $420 to $600; a 512GB listing showed $598.99 in one crawl. Seller warranty, battery policy, grading and returns can differ materially from Best Buy’s own terms. Review the seller box and return conditions on each checkout page. How to compare the real cost of a carrier deal
Use the same ownership period for both choices. A carrier’s device payment is only one line on the bill.
True carrier cost = required plan cost + device payments + activation or upgrade fees + taxes and surcharges + trade-in opportunity cost − promotional bill credits − sign-up credits or gift cards.

True unlocked cost = phone price + sales tax + optional protection + wireless plan cost over the same period.

Suppose an unlocked phone costs $500 after tax and your current plan is $25 per month. Over 36 months, the combined cost is $500 + (36 × $25) = $1,400. A carrier advertises a $0 device payment but requires a $70 plan for 36 months, a $35 activation fee and a $300 trade-in. If credits cover the device, the carrier total is still (36 × $70) + $35 + $300 = $2,855, before other taxes. The “free” phone is not cheaper because the plan difference dominates. Replace these hypothetical figures with the carrier’s actual quote.

What carrier offers must require
- Qualifying trade-in device and condition.
- New line or eligible upgrade.
- Specified unlimited plan.
- Installment financing.
- Trade-in submission by the stated deadline.
- Continued service until every bill credit posts.
Also confirm whether the phone is unlocked at purchase or only after eligibility requirements. “Compatible with all major carriers” does not necessarily mean unlocked. An unlocked purchase is generally simplest for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and compatible prepaid or MVNO services.

What you are buying in 2026
The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro has a Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, Dynamic Island, Always-On display, A16 Bionic, a 48MP main camera plus 12MP ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, 5G, Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, Face ID, Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite. Apple rates up to 23 hours of video playback under its stated conditions. U.S. models use eSIM rather than a physical SIM tray, and the U.S. model shown in Apple’s listing is A2650: Apple specifications and model details.
The phone uses a Lightning port, not USB-C. A package may include a USB-C-to-Lightning cable, but USB-C accessories do not plug directly into the phone.
How to buy a used or refurbished model safely
Before checkout
- Confirm iPhone 14 Pro (not iPhone 14, 14 Plus or 14 Pro Max), storage and color.
- Verify the U.S. model where appropriate (A2650), fully unlocked status and eSIM compatibility.
- Require an activation-lock guarantee, clean IMEI and confirmation that the device is not lost, stolen or tied to unpaid financing.
- Obtain a stated battery-health policy or percentage; cosmetic grading does not guarantee battery condition.
- Check Parts and Service History terms, warranty provider, return deadline, restocking deductions and included accessories.
- Include sales tax, shipping, activation fees and optional protection in your comparison.
First-day inspection
- Photograph the package and phone before setup, and keep packaging until the return window closes.
- Record the IMEI and serial number.
- Confirm the setup screen appears without an Activation Lock prompt.
- Open Settings → General → About and verify model, capacity, serial number, IMEI and carrier-lock status.
- Check Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.
- Check Settings → General → About → Parts and Service History, if shown.
- Test Face ID, every camera and flash, microphones, speakers, vibration, buttons, charging port, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and cellular service.
- Inspect the display for dead pixels, burn-in, touch faults and abnormal brightness.
- Activate your intended eSIM and place a call or use mobile data.
If the phone is locked, activation-locked, blacklisted, materially misrepresented or has unacceptable battery health, document the issue immediately and request a replacement or refund before the deadline.
When a newer iPhone is a better deal
Do not assume an older Pro is automatically the bargain. A newer standard iPhone may provide a longer remaining support horizon, fresher battery, newer modem features and USB-C, depending on model. The 14 Pro remains attractive when its 120Hz display and telephoto camera matter and its total cost is clearly below a comparable newer phone. If the 14 Pro price approaches a newer model after protection and battery-replacement costs, compare both before committing.
