Amazon’s 2024 Black Friday Week ran November 21–29, and Amazon said selected HP, Lenovo, and Acer laptops would be discounted by up to 45%. The strongest laptop prices reported around the event were not all Amazon offers, though. The $160 ASUS Vivobook Go and $299 Acer Chromebook Plus 514 were budget standouts; a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus at about $700 was a better-equipped performance-value example, but should not be mistaken for a confirmed Amazon deal.
These are historical prices, not offers available now. Black Friday 2024 was November 29, 2024, and retailer pages, stock, and configurations have since changed. Prices and “was” prices are what the cited coverage reported, not proof of a product’s usual street price, lowest-ever price, or availability at checkout. Forbes Vetted’s 2024 deal coverage and Yahoo’s Amazon-focused roundup include offers from multiple retailers. Treat the retailer label as part of the deal, not a footnote.

A large discount badge alone did not make a laptop good value. A sensible comparison considers the actual configuration, its fit for the buyer’s work, and who sells it. For Windows, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD are useful targets for a laptop expected to handle everyday multitasking for several years; 8GB RAM is a practical floor for light productivity. For demanding development or creative workloads, 16GB is a starting point and 32GB may be preferable. These are buying guidelines, not hard compatibility rules.

For ChromeOS, 8GB RAM is preferable for longevity, although lighter use can work with less. Storage needs depend on how much work stays local: 256GB is a practical Windows minimum for many buyers, while 512GB offers more room for applications and files. Gaming or GPU-heavy creative work calls for a verified discrete graphics processor, adequate cooling, and a suitable display—not merely a fast-sounding CPU.
Also compare the processor generation and class, display resolution and quality, upgradeability, ports, warranty, and total cost. A laptop with soldered RAM cannot be upgraded later. A listing titled only “Core i7 laptop” or “MacBook Air M3” is too vague to judge without its exact model and memory and storage configuration.
Best lowest-price example: ASUS Vivobook Go
Forbes reported a 15.6-inch ASUS Vivobook Go with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD at $160, reduced from $230. That was an eye-catching entry price, but it is better understood as a bare-minimum example than as the best overall Windows value. Four gigabytes of memory leave little room for modern multitasking, and 128GB fills quickly once Windows, applications, and personal files are accounted for.

It could suit someone who needs only light browsing, simple documents, and streaming and accepts the limitations. It is a poor choice for heavy multitasking, large files, demanding creative software, or a buyer seeking a laptop to keep for many years. Before buying a similar configuration, check whether memory and storage are upgradeable; do not assume they are.

Best browser-first budget option: Acer Chromebook Plus 514
Tom’s Guide reported the Acer Chromebook Plus 514 at $299, down from $379, in early Black Friday coverage. It was a clearer fit than a low-spec Windows laptop for people whose work happens mainly in a browser: Google Workspace, school portals, web apps, streaming, and cloud-based documents. The cited report establishes an early-event price, not that this was the final Black Friday price or a confirmed Amazon listing.
ChromeOS does not natively run standard Windows desktop applications. Compatibility for Android apps, Linux tools, specialist peripherals, professional software, and games varies. If you rely on a Windows-only application, full desktop versions of specific software, or a workplace tool that requires Windows, a Chromebook is not a direct bargain substitute. Best performance-value benchmark: Dell Inspiron 16 Plus
The reported Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7640 configuration paired a Core i7 processor with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Forbes put it at about $700, down from $950; Yahoo reported $699.99, down from $999.99. Those different reference prices illustrate why a displayed reduction should not be confused with a verified normal street price. More importantly, the deal was reported in mixed-retailer coverage and is not established as an Amazon offer.

Portable and premium choices: what the evidence supports
Contemporary coverage reported a 2024 16.2-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro, 24GB RAM, and 1TB SSD at $2,199, down from $2,499. This was a substantial premium configuration, not a low-cost portability pick, and the report does not establish it as an Amazon offer. A 16-inch-class laptop may be powerful, but screen size and configuration alone do not tell you its total travel weight, battery life, or comfort on the move. Compare the laptop and charger weight and look for independent battery testing before buying for frequent travel.
MacBook Air M3 prices in historical listings varied substantially, and the configurations were not interchangeable. A reported price around $849 and a higher-priced 16GB/512GB listing should not be combined into one deal claim. Because Mac unified memory is not user-upgradeable, choose enough at purchase.
