AT&T’s “any year, any condition” Pixel 9 Pro trade-in promotion was real, but it was a 2024 offer—not a deal you should assume is still available. It covered the Pixel 9 Pro 128GB and Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB, with the device cost offset by 36 monthly bill credits. As of August 18, 2026, AT&T’s catalog centers on newer Pixel models; treat the old offer as historical unless it appears in your current AT&T checkout.
What AT&T’s original Pixel 9 Pro offer included
AT&T announced the promotion on August 13, 2024, ahead of the Pixel 9 Pro’s September 4 availability. Its launch announcement advertised the Pixel 9 Pro 128GB or Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB for $0 after 36 monthly bill credits with an eligible trade-in. AT&T’s follow-up coverage described the offer as accepting any Pixel phone, in any condition.

AT&T’s launch terms said the offer was open to new and existing customers, subject to installment, plan, credit, and trade-in requirements. That does not mean every type of transaction—such as a new line, an upgrade, or a switch from another carrier—had identical rules. Confirm the terms for the specific line and account before ordering.

Is the Pixel 9 Pro deal available now?
As of August 18, 2026, the available evidence does not establish that AT&T is broadly offering the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL under the old any-condition promotion. AT&T’s current phone catalog highlights newer Pixel 10 models, including a Pixel 10 Pro XL offer advertised at as low as $0 per month after 36 months of credits with an eligible trade-in. That current listing does not establish that the trade-in can be any year or any condition.

An accessible Pixel 9 Pro XL product page is not proof that the 2024 offer remains active. A legacy listing or old search result can persist after a promotion ends. A live offer displayed for your device and account in AT&T’s shopping flow is the useful evidence; a past announcement is not.
“Free” meant free after credits—not free at checkout
The original deal used financing and monthly credits to offset the phone’s installment payments over 36 months. You still had to meet the service and financing conditions, and credits could take up to three bills to begin. Taxes on the full device price, plan charges, and applicable activation or upgrade fees were not erased by the device credits.

The commitment mattered most if you left early. AT&T’s announced terms said cancelling eligible service stops future credits and makes the remaining device balance due. The historical terms also included a 90-day condition for new-line customers involving cancellation of service on other lines. Read the offer terms for your transaction; do not assume a future promotion has identical rules.

To judge the economics, compare the full cost of 36 months of the required service, taxes and fees, activation or upgrade charges, and any add-ons against the value of keeping or selling your old phone and the cost of buying the new phone another way. A $0 monthly device payment does not automatically make the overall transaction the cheapest choice.
What “any condition” did—and did not—mean
The phrase relaxed the physical-condition requirement for eligible trade-ins; it did not guarantee that every object, every phone, or every damaged device would qualify. AT&T’s announcement paired “any year, any condition” with a minimum trade-in value of $35. Its follow-up described Pixel phones as qualifying. Because the exact eligible-device list can depend on the promotion and the trade-in system, use AT&T’s live eligibility flow rather than relying on the slogan.

Answer condition questions accurately. A device that is locked, missing parts, not the model entered, or in a materially different condition from what you reported could create a valuation or acceptance problem. Check any remaining AT&T installment balance on your old phone as well: a trade-in promotion does not, by itself, establish that an outstanding balance is forgiven.

How to verify an offer before you trade in
- Start at AT&T’s phone trade-in page and select the Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL if it is still available to purchase.
- Choose the trade-in pricing option and enter the old phone’s make and model or IMEI. Answer the condition questions truthfully.
- Before accepting, confirm the exact monthly credit, how many months it lasts, the required plan, and whether your transaction is an upgrade, a new line, or another type of purchase.
- Check for a required installment agreement, any down payment, the full-price sales tax, activation or upgrade fees, and the consequences of cancelling service or upgrading early. Confirm how an existing balance on the trade-in phone is handled.
- Save screenshots or a copy of the terms shown in your cart. Keep the trade-in confirmation, IMEI, shipment receipt, and tracking details until the trade-in is accepted and credits appear.
- Before mailing the old phone, back it up, remove account and activation locks, factory-reset it, and follow AT&T’s shipping or store instructions. AT&T’s trade-in guidance warns that locks such as Google activation lock or Apple Find My should be disabled before mailing.
If the Pixel 9 offer is gone
- Consider AT&T’s current Pixel offer. The catalog shows a Pixel 10 Pro XL at as low as $0 per month after 36 months of credits with an eligible trade-in. Check the live terms; do not assume the older “any condition” language applies.
- Compare direct purchase and trade-in. The Google Store offers direct purchase and trade-in, but its trade-in value depends on the device model and condition. Google says its trade-in partner generally must receive the old phone within 30 days of the new phone arriving. This route may avoid tying the phone discount to AT&T service for 36 months, though a badly damaged phone may receive little value.
- Look at used or refurbished phones. These can avoid a carrier bill-credit commitment, but check battery condition, warranty, return policy, carrier compatibility, and whether the device is still being financed. Compare actual listings rather than assuming a particular price.
- Keep your current phone if the numbers do not work. If an eligible AT&T plan costs more than your current service or you may leave before credits finish, the apparent phone savings may not justify a new 36-month obligation.
For any option, compare the total service and device cost over the period you expect to keep the phone—not just the advertised monthly device payment. If you can sell your old phone for more than the trade-in benefit, include that foregone resale value in the comparison.
