BLACKPINK and Samsung were an exceptionally strong creative and cultural match, but “perfect” goes too far as a business verdict. Samsung supplied phones, wearables, audio products and a global distribution system; BLACKPINK supplied worldwide recognition, visual identity, music and a highly participatory fan base. The fit was clearest in Samsung’s 2019–2020 Galaxy A campaigns, including the #danceAwesome TikTok challenge.
Samsung reported 4.7 million user-created videos and more than 20.2 billion TikTok views, and the campaign won D&AD recognition. Those are substantial reported engagement results, not proof of a particular number of incremental device sales or a disclosed return on investment. The official material available through August 18, 2026, also documents historical campaigns rather than a confirmed continuing group-level endorsement.
What the BLACKPINK–Samsung relationship actually was
The relationship was a portfolio of activities, not one universal contract covering every Samsung product and country.
- Galaxy A ambassadorship: Samsung’s April 2019 event coverage introduced Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo as Galaxy A ambassadors. Samsung’s event account associated the group with the Galaxy A70 and A80 launch period.
- Product advertising and regional promotions: Campaigns connected BLACKPINK with selected Galaxy A devices and local activations.
- Limited-edition merchandise: Samsung Singapore announced a BLACKPINK Edition bundle, rather than a worldwide product release.
- Social-media collaboration: The #danceAwesome campaign combined BLACKPINK’s music and choreography with TikTok participation.
- What is not established: An all-Samsung, worldwide, continuing endorsement contract through August 2026 is not shown by the cited official sources.
A member appearing at an event, appearing in an old advertisement or being seen with a Galaxy device should not automatically be treated as evidence of a current exclusive contract.

Why the pairing made strategic sense
Audience alignment
Samsung positioned Galaxy A around younger, mobile-first users interested in cameras, displays, battery life, creativity and social sharing. BLACKPINK’s digitally native global audience was naturally reachable through those behaviors. Exposure alone does not prove that fans became Galaxy buyers, but the intended demographic and media habits overlapped unusually well.
Cultural credibility
The collaboration linked a Korean technology company with one of the most internationally visible Korean music groups. That gave Samsung a culturally legible way to localize campaigns in Asian markets while retaining a recognizable global identity.
Visual and fashion fit
BLACKPINK’s name, styling, color palette and music-video language translated easily into black-and-pink device treatments, fashion-oriented product photography, customized interfaces and limited-edition packaging. The aesthetic connection made a midrange phone family feel more aspirational without changing the underlying hardware category.

Behavioral product fit
The campaigns could show devices doing something relevant: taking photos, watching content, listening through Galaxy Buds, wearing a connected watch, customizing a phone and creating short-form video. That is more persuasive than placing a celebrity beside a product with no visible use case.

The BLACKPINK Edition: a regional fan bundle, not a global phone
Samsung Singapore’s announcement described a limited BLACKPINK Edition combining:
- Galaxy A80
- Galaxy Watch Active
- Galaxy Buds
- BLACKPINK-themed software and visual elements, including boot animations, watch faces, icons and wallpapers or home-screen content
- The Kill This Love album
The announced recommended retail price was S$1,198 on July 26, 2019. Sales were scheduled to begin August 1, 2019, “while stocks last.” These details apply to the Singapore announcement; they do not establish worldwide availability or a current price. Read Samsung Singapore’s announcement.
The bundle illustrates both the strength and limitation of fandom marketing. Combining hardware, software and music creates urgency and collectible value. It also limits reach: a scarce regional bundle can generate conversation among fans who cannot buy it, and its appeal may be strongest to existing BLACKPINK supporters rather than undecided smartphone shoppers.

The #danceAwesome campaign used TikTok, BLACKPINK’s choreography and user-created videos as the media mechanism. Instead of asking people only to watch a commercial, it asked them to perform and share a recognizable cultural behavior.
Rank #3
Samsung reported 4.7 million user-created videos and more than 20.2 billion TikTok views. Those figures are Samsung’s campaign-reported metrics; they should not be read as unique people, independently audited organic views or sales. Samsung also reported that #danceAwesome won a D&AD Graphite Pencil in Entertainment / Use of Audience, while “AWESOME is for Everyone” won a Wood Pencil in Sound Design & Use of Music / Original Composition. Samsung’s campaign account provides the figures and awards.
The mechanics mattered. Music and choreography supplied a repeatable format, TikTok supplied distribution and fans supplied production. That combination can improve awareness and brand association, but it still does not identify how many participants considered, purchased or stayed with a Galaxy device.
Regional execution was important
The Singapore bundle and a Thailand activation show that Samsung adapted execution by market. Samsung’s Thailand coverage described a BLACKPINK-themed interactive installation promoting the Galaxy A51 with choreography, augmented-reality-style experiences and shareable content. See the Thailand activation coverage.
Regional variation affects price, availability, media channels, prizes and contractual scope. “Galaxy A ambassador” therefore should not be expanded into “global Samsung ambassador,” and a Singapore product announcement should not be presented as a United States or worldwide launch.

Was it commercially successful?
The evidence supports a strong distinction between attention, engagement, brand association and sales.
| Outcome | What the evidence supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness | Very strong reported TikTok reach and extensive campaign visibility. | That 20.2 billion views represented unique individuals. |
| Engagement | 4.7 million reported user-created videos show substantial participation. | That every video was organic, positive or created by a prospective buyer. |
| Creative effectiveness | D&AD recognition for #danceAwesome and the related film. | A specific financial return. |
| Product integration | Phones, Buds, Watch, customization and content creation appeared in connected experiences. | Technical superiority over competing devices. |
| Incremental sales and profit | Not publicly quantified in the available evidence. | Any precise sales lift, market-share gain or ROI attributable to BLACKPINK. |
Yonhap reported that Samsung did not disclose how many collaboration products were sold or how much they contributed to profitability. Yonhap’s analysis is why the commercial conclusion must remain qualified.
A transparent scorecard for the “perfect match” claim
| Dimension | Assessment | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Cultural relevance | Excellent | Korean technology and globally prominent K-pop connected authentically. |
| Visual identity | Excellent | Fashion, color, music and choreography translated directly into creative assets. |
| Audience fit | Very strong | Mobile-first younger audiences aligned with Galaxy A’s intended positioning. |
| Product demonstrability | Strong | Camera, audio, wearable and customization use cases were visible. |
| Social participation | Very strong | #danceAwesome made fans part of the distribution system. |
| Regional execution | Strong but uneven | Singapore and Thailand show useful localization, not universal availability. |
| Proven incremental sales | Not publicly demonstrated | Sales, profitability and ROI attribution were not disclosed. |
| Long-term continuity | Unclear | The strongest verified evidence is concentrated in 2019–2020. |
Where the partnership could fall short
Attention can eclipse the product
Fans may remember the song, styling or choreography more clearly than the Galaxy A’s camera, battery or display. A campaign can be culturally dominant while product differentiation remains weak.
Fandom is not the same as conversion
Someone can create a dance video, stream BLACKPINK content and admire a limited edition without wanting an Android phone. Without transaction or survey data, conversion cannot be inferred from participation.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
Authenticity and exclusivity create tension
Questions can arise if members later appear to use competing devices, or if a scarce regional bundle is promoted to a worldwide fan base. Individual appearances and group-level contracts also become more complicated as members pursue separate solo careers and brand portfolios.
Brand risk runs both ways
A product or software controversy could affect the group’s image, while a change in the group’s public positioning could affect Samsung’s campaign. The more tightly the identities are linked, the more important consistency becomes.
Is there a current BLACKPINK–Samsung partnership in 2026?
The cited official Samsung pages document the historical Galaxy A campaigns and regional activations. They do not establish a continuing group-level endorsement as of August 18, 2026. That is an evidence limit, not proof that no private, individual or regional relationship exists. Current claims should rely on a separate, dated announcement rather than archived campaign pages or fan sightings.

The 2019 BLACKPINK Edition is a historical product, not a current buying recommendation. Readers interested in the same ecosystem can review Samsung’s current categories for Galaxy smartphones, Galaxy Buds and Galaxy watches, but current models should not be represented as BLACKPINK editions or as currently endorsed by the group. Prices, trade-in terms and availability change by market and model.
Competitors such as iPhone with AirPods or Google Pixel with Pixel Buds may suit readers who prioritize iOS integration or Google services. They are ecosystem alternatives, not direct evidence that one platform offers better value for every buyer.
Verdict
BLACKPINK and Samsung were a near-perfect creative and cultural match, especially for the Galaxy A line. The campaigns aligned audience, aesthetics, Korean cultural credibility and product behaviors, and #danceAwesome demonstrated unusually strong reported participation and creative recognition.
They were not a provably perfect financial match. Public evidence does not disclose attributable sales, profit, market-share change or ROI, and it does not confirm that the group-level partnership continued through August 2026. The most accurate conclusion is therefore: excellent strategic fit, impressive documented engagement, and an unproven full commercial return.
