What ZaloPay does

In Vietnam, ZaloPay combines an electronic wallet with payment tools for transfers, bills, merchants, online stores and entertainment providers. Mobile top-ups and travel tickets are included too.

Money can move between wallets through a phone number, a contact or a QR code. Users may include a note or greeting card, and a Zalo conversation can handle the transfer without a separate app for that action.

Fees and plans

ZaloPay's listed plan costs nothing. Moving money between ZaloPay wallets is free, while charges and limits for other transaction categories differ. There is no free trial.

The schedule shows no charge for wallet-balance payments or payments made from linked domestic banks. Fees can apply to international-card transactions and to transfers beyond the monthly free allowance.

Customer-initiated transfers include 5,000,000 VND a month before charges begin. Beyond that amount, the listed charge is 3,100 VND plus 0.65% of the transaction value. ZION sets merchant fees by agreement. Exchange rates are variable, and fees are shown upfront.

Support is available at 1900 545 436 and [email protected]. Calling the hotline costs 1,000 VND per minute.

Where it runs

Downloads are provided for iOS and Android. The operating rules state that the app has no other download addresses, so no separate web or computer app is listed.

An app-to-app SDK lets partner apps hand off payment to ZaloPay and receive the result afterward. A transfer may also start in a Zalo chat without a separate app for that action.

Protection and rules, as published

ZION Joint Stock Company is listed as licensed by the State Bank of Vietnam for payment-gateway, collection and disbursement support, and e-wallet services. ZaloPay reports PCI DSS and ISO 27001 information-security certifications.

According to ZION's privacy policy, payment-intermediary services can handle sensitive data such as identity, account, funds, transaction and location information. ZaloPay tells users not to reveal PINs, passwords or OTPs and says it will not ask for login credentials together by phone or email.

Strengths

The wallet brings together transfers, bills, merchant QR checkout, online purchases, top-ups, tickets and entertainment payments.

Phone numbers, contacts and QR codes are available for wallet transfers, with an option to attach a message or greeting card. One account can link multiple banks, including Vietcombank, BIDV and Sacombank.

ZaloPay says its network covers hundreds of services and thousands of payment locations in Vietnam.

Catches to check

The monthly no-fee amount for customer-initiated transfers is 5,000,000 VND. Amounts above that are charged 3,100 VND plus 0.65% of the transaction value.

Costs and limits outside that allowance depend on the transaction category. International-card transactions may also carry fees, and exchange rates vary.

Only iOS and Android app downloads are listed. Merchant prices are negotiated with ZION, and hotline support is billed per minute.

Who should skip ZaloPay

It may not suit someone who requires a listed web or computer app, a fixed published exchange rate, or complete fee details for every transaction type.

People outside Vietnam or without access to the supported Vietnamese payment network may not be able to use these features.

Verdict

ZaloPay suits people in Vietnam seeking a mobile wallet for domestic transfers plus bills, merchant payments, shopping and entertainment. Wallet-to-wallet transfers are free under the plan, but the monthly allowance and transaction-specific charges matter for heavier use. iOS and Android are the listed platforms, with no separate web or computer download shown. ZION's State Bank of Vietnam licensing, along with ZaloPay's PCI DSS and ISO 27001 certifications and login-safety guidance, are published by the provider.
