What Revolut Business does

Revolut Business is a business finance account for startups through established companies. It lets businesses send and receive money, hold more than 25 currencies, issue cards and manage spending.

Payments can arrive through IBAN and SWIFT/BIC details or through online and in-person methods. The service also includes expenses, bills, purchase-order matching and financial-operation tools through its API.

Fees and plans

There is no free plan. A free trial is available. Basic costs £10 a month and includes 25+ currencies, no fee-free international transfers, 10 fee-free local transfers each month and a £1,000 exchange allowance. Grow costs £35 a month and includes five fee-free international transfers, 100 fee-free local transfers monthly, a £15,000 exchange allowance and the Business API.

Scale costs £125 a month, with 25 fee-free international transfers, 1,000 fee-free local transfers monthly, a £60,000 exchange allowance and the Business API. Annual Grow is £360 a year; annual Scale is £1,080 a year. Enterprise uses custom pricing and includes custom allowances, the Business API and an account manager.

Transfers outside a plan's listed allowances can incur fees. Expense management is listed at £8 per person monthly. The UK comparison page lists payment acceptance fees starting at 0.8% plus £0.02 per transaction. Other transfer or exchange charges are not published in these facts.

Where it runs

Revolut Business runs on the web, iPhone and Android, and offers an API. Revolut directs customers to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for the Business app.

The iOS listing requires iOS 15.0 or later and iPadOS 15.0 or later. The mobile app requires an official store build, current operating-system security updates, a locked bootloader, certified firmware and no root access.

The Business API is hosted by Revolut and has no published self-hosted deployment option. It is available to Grow, Scale and Enterprise customers, not personal Revolut accounts.

Protection and controls, as Revolut publishes them

Revolut describes machine-learning identity checks, biometric device binding and a security control centre for device and merchant controls. It also lists biometric checks, 24/7 transaction monitoring, two-factor authentication for sensitive transactions and 3D Secure.

The plans page lists 24/7 English-language support for every plan. These are Revolut's published features and support terms; the facts do not state a licence, regulator or deposit-protection scheme.

Strengths

The account combines multi-currency balances, global and local account details, transfers and payment acceptance in one service. Businesses can spend in more than 150 currencies.

Cards include physical and virtual options with controls for limits, categories, currencies, spending periods, approvals and permissions. Expense tools capture receipts, categorize transactions and export spending data to accounting software.

BillPay handles invoice entry, approvals, payments and reconciliation. Purchase orders can link to bills for two-way matching, with custom approval rules.

Catches and conditions

Plan allowances matter. Basic has no fee-free international transfers, while Grow and Scale include five and 25. Fees may apply beyond listed transfer allowances.

UK applicants must have a fully incorporated, active company registered in the UK and cannot operate in unsupported industries.

The Business API is limited to Grow, Scale and Enterprise. Payment acceptance starts at 0.8% plus £0.02 per transaction, and expense management is an extra £8 per person monthly.

Who should skip it

It may not fit a UK applicant whose company is not fully incorporated and active, or a business in an unsupported industry. Basic may also be a poor match for a business that needs included international transfers.

Businesses wanting a personal-account API cannot use one, because the public API is for eligible Business plans. A business seeking a self-hosted service will not find that option in the published product.

For other digital-wallet options, see Digital wallets. Readers comparing business account alternatives can also look at Monzo or Monese.

Verdict

Revolut Business suits companies that need one account for international balances, transfers, cards, expenses and payment collection. Its plans set different transfer counts, local-transfer limits and exchange allowances, with the API reserved for higher tiers.

It is less suitable for a company that needs a free plan, a personal-account API, self-hosting or clearly published charges beyond the listed allowances. UK eligibility rules and payment-acceptance and per-person expense fees should be part of the cost picture.

Who it suits

Pick it if

  • Companies managing international balances and payments
  • Teams needing cards, controls, expenses and bills
  • Grow, Scale or Enterprise customers needing the API

Skip it if

  • You need a free plan or a personal Revolut account API.
  • You require self-hosted deployment.
  • Your company does not meet the published UK eligibility rules.
