The configuration is documented in the B&H product specifications. The original deal report from AppleInsider described the price as the lowest tracked price at that time for this particular 24GB/512GB configuration. That is a retailer-tracking claim, not a guarantee that it was the lowest price ever for every M5 MacBook Pro.
Why the configuration mattered
The main value was the 24GB of unified memory. It provided more headroom for developers running multiple IDEs, containers, simulators, or local AI tools; creative users working with large photo or video projects; and anyone planning to keep the laptop for several years.

That does not mean the M5 chip itself became faster because the laptop had 24GB of memory. The practical benefit is capacity: demanding workloads are less likely to pressure the system into swapping memory to storage. For web browsing, email, office software, streaming, and similar tasks, the cheaper 16GB model may have been sufficient.
The trade-off was storage. This deal included 512GB, not 1TB. Buyers handling large media libraries or local project files may have preferred more storage over additional memory, especially if external storage was inconvenient.
How it compared with Apple’s pricing
Apple announced the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro with a U.S. starting price of $1,599. Apple also listed a $1,499 education price, subject to eligibility, in its launch announcement.

Those figures are not identical comparisons. Apple’s $1,599 starting price referred to the base retail configuration, while the B&H promotion reportedly offered 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage for $1,499. Apple’s $1,499 figure was an education price and may not have been available to every shopper or represented the same configuration.

The battery figures are Apple’s “up to” claims; actual endurance varies with brightness, applications, workload, and settings. Apple’s performance claims should likewise be understood as manufacturer claims measured under its stated testing conditions, not universal real-world results.

- 16GB/1TB: $1,599. This made more sense for buyers who needed local storage more than memory headroom.
- 32GB/512GB: $1,899. This suited heavier professional workloads but cost substantially more.
- 32GB/1TB: $2,029. This combined the greater memory capacity with more storage at a much higher price.
These were historical Cyber Monday prices, not current quotes. An Apple Certified Refurbished model may also be worth considering when new inventory is unavailable, but refurbished availability and pricing are inventory-dependent.

Who should have considered it?
- Good fit: programmers, creative professionals, multitaskers, local-AI users, and buyers seeking more memory headroom for long-term use.
- Choose more storage instead: users with large local photo, video, or project libraries who could manage with 16GB of memory.
- Choose 32GB instead: users running virtual machines, large codebases, local AI models, professional video workflows, or complex graphics projects.
- Consider a MacBook Air: buyers prioritizing lower weight, lower cost, and silent operation over the Pro’s XDR display, ports, and sustained-performance design.
Important conditions and price traps
This was a B&H retailer promotion, not an Apple Store price cut. The advertised deadline was 8:59 p.m. Pacific Time on December 1, 2025, or earlier while supplies lasted. Retailer prices can differ by finish, memory, storage, payment method, condition, and inventory.
Before buying a comparable listing, check that it is new rather than open-box or refurbished; confirm the model number, 24GB memory, 512GB SSD, standard display, and finish; and review shipping, taxes, return terms, protection-plan costs, and delivery timing. The original coverage also disclosed that AppleInsider could receive a commission from purchases through its links, so commercial deal coverage should not be confused with independent testing.

If a new 24GB/512GB M5 MacBook Pro is currently close to $1,499, that historical price is a useful benchmark. If the price is materially higher, compare it with the 16GB/1TB model, Apple education pricing if you qualify, or Apple Certified Refurbished inventory. The right choice depends on whether your work needs memory headroom or additional storage.
Verdict
The $1,499 Cyber Monday price was an unusually strong deal for the 24GB/512GB 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro because it combined a higher-memory configuration with a price matching Apple’s education figure. It was not, however, a current offer, a universal “lowest-ever” price for every M5 model, or automatically the best choice for buyers who needed 1TB of storage or only basic laptop performance.
