Update: Apple’s 2026 Back to School/Back to Uni promotion launched on January 6 in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and South Korea, then ended on March 11, 2026. It is not currently claimable. During the promotion, qualifying higher-education customers could receive selected accessories free or buy upgraded accessories at a reduced price with eligible Mac and iPad purchases.
What Apple’s promotion offered
This was not one identical four-country bundle. The qualifying product, free accessory, upgrade price, and eligibility rules depended on the country and the specific Mac or iPad model. Apple’s regional education stores applied the offer alongside education pricing, rather than replacing it.
The clearest published details came from Australia. They should not be treated as the automatic offer in New Zealand, Brazil, or South Korea.

Apple staggers education promotions by region and academic calendar. This four-country launch was not a worldwide rollout, and later 2026 promotions in other markets had different gifts and exclusions. The launch dates, market list, and Australian examples were reported by MacRumors.

Australian offer: free items and paid upgrades
In Australia, selected iPad Air and iPad Pro purchases could include an Apple Pencil Pro, listed at an A$199 value, or standard AirPods 4, listed at an A$219 value, at no additional charge. Buyers could upgrade to AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation for A$80.
For iPad purchases, some Magic Keyboard upgrades cost an additional A$210–A$350, depending on the model. Those were discounted upgrade options—not free accessories.
For iMac purchases, the reported free option was AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, listed at an A$299 value. An upgrade to AirPods Pro 3 cost A$130.

These figures were historical Australian promotion figures from January–March 2026. They are not current prices, and they do not establish what customers in the other three countries received.
Which products qualified?
The reported Australian offer covered selected:
- MacBook Air models
- MacBook Pro models
- iMac models
- iPad Air models
- iPad Pro models
Not every Mac or iPad automatically qualified. Buyers needed to select an eligible configuration through the relevant education store. Apple’s later 2026 promotions excluded products such as MacBook Neo, iPad mini, entry-level iPad, and some desktop Macs in several markets, illustrating why readers should never infer eligibility from the product family alone.
Who was eligible?
Eligibility generally focused on higher-education students and education personnel. Depending on the country’s rules, eligible groups could include:
- Full- or part-time higher-education students
- Students newly accepted by a higher-education institution
- University lecturers, faculty, and staff
- Teachers or lecturers at approved education establishments
- Parents purchasing for an eligible student
Apple may request proof of enrollment, acceptance, institutional affiliation, employment, or the parent-student relationship. Australia’s education policies, for example, describe qualifying students aged 18 or older, university staff, certain teachers, and parents buying for an eligible student. Local rules in New Zealand, Brazil, and South Korea may differ. Institutional, business, government, bulk, and reseller purchases may not qualify for an individual education promotion. A school or university should check Apple’s business or institutional purchasing rules instead of assuming that an employee promotion applies to an organizational order.
Where could customers buy?
During the promotion, eligible customers could use the regional Apple online education store, the Apple Store app, or an Apple retail location where the offer was available. Customers generally needed to buy through the applicable country’s store and arrange delivery within that market. A buyer should not assume that ordering from another country’s education store creates eligibility.
For any future promotion, start at the local Apple education store rather than a general product page. Confirm the eligible model, accessory selection, delivery country, proof requirements, and expiry date before paying.
How the savings worked
The potential value had three separate parts:
- Education pricing: a reduced price on the qualifying Mac or iPad.
- Promotional accessory: a free accessory or a discount toward a specified accessory.
- AppleCare+ pricing: the launch report said AppleCare+ plans were available at up to 10% off for students in the covered countries.
“Up to 10%” is not a universal 10% discount. The actual saving could vary by product, plan, country, and purchase channel. Check the price shown at checkout.

Returns: do not separate the device and accessory
Promotional terms generally require the qualifying device and promotional accessory to be returned together for a full refund. If the customer keeps, redeems, or cannot return the accessory, Apple may deduct its full original value from the refund or exchange value. If the customer keeps the qualifying device, Apple may remove the promotional pricing and charge the difference.
The detailed wording in Apple’s U.S. 2026 promotional terms is a useful example of this return logic, but it is not proof that every clause was identical in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, or South Korea. Local terms and consumer law control.
This matters financially: an accessory advertised as free can become a substantial charge if the Mac or iPad is returned without it.

- The value of the accessory you would actually use
- Any upgrade payment
- Local taxes and delivery charges
- Reseller discounts or bundles
- AppleCare+ pricing and coverage
- Warranty, financing, and return policies
A reseller might offer a lower device price, but its bundle may include a different accessory, an older configuration, or a different return process. Verify that the seller is authorized, that the product is the current model advertised, and that the accessory is genuinely included rather than merely discounted separately.
Apple’s listed accessory value is also not the same as cash savings. If you already own wireless earbuds, AirPods may add little value. An Apple Pencil Pro may be more useful to an iPad user who annotates documents or takes handwritten notes; a Magic Keyboard or Trackpad may be more valuable to someone building a desktop setup.
A practical decision checklist
- Confirm that the promotion is active. The 2026 four-country offer ended March 11.
- Open the correct country’s education store.
- Check the exact Mac or iPad configuration for eligibility.
- Confirm your student, parent, faculty, staff, or teacher status.
- Price the device with Apple education pricing and compare it with authorized resellers.
- Choose an accessory based on practical use, not only Apple’s listed value.
- Separate the free item from paid upgrade options when calculating savings.
- Read the local return terms before ordering, especially if you may return the device.
What readers should do now
Because this promotion has expired, readers cannot use its historical Australian accessory prices or assume that the same bundle remains available. For a current purchase, check the local Apple education store for any replacement promotion and compare its final price with authorized resellers, refurbished products, previous-generation models, and buying the accessory separately.
The safest conclusion is simple: Apple’s 2026 offer could be valuable for an eligible buyer who already needed a qualifying Mac or iPad and wanted the included accessory. It was not automatically the best deal for someone who did not need the accessory, wanted an excluded product, or could obtain a substantially lower device price elsewhere.
