Apple Kawasaki opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Lazona Kawasaki Plaza in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. Apple announced the opening earlier that month; the store is no longer new, and the original “will open” headline refers to a date in the past.
Why Apple Kawasaki’s opening mattered
At its opening, Apple Kawasaki was reported as Apple’s 10th directly operated store in Japan and the company’s first Japanese Apple Store inside a shopping mall. Contemporary coverage also described it as Apple’s first direct retail location in Kanagawa Prefecture. Those are historical distinctions, not a current count of Apple’s Japanese stores. The location placed Apple’s retail and support services in a large shopping complex linked to JR Kawasaki Station, making it accessible to commuters as well as mall visitors and families.
Where the store is and how to check current details
Apple Kawasaki is on the second floor of Lazona Kawasaki Plaza, near the open-air Ruufa Plaza. Its listed address is 72-1 Horikawacho, Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa 212-0013, Japan. The mall is directly connected to the west side of JR Kawasaki Station; from the station, follow signs toward the west exit and Lazona.

Apple’s store page lists regular hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the phone number 044-577-5100. Hours may differ on holidays or during exceptional closures, so check the current Apple Kawasaki page before setting out. The Lazona listing can also help with mall access information.
Opening-day design and activities
Reports ahead of the 2019 opening described a glass frontage facing the plaza, product areas for hands-on use, and a central Forum with a large video wall. These details describe the store at launch and should not be taken as a guarantee of its present layout. (PC Watch)

The launch coverage highlighted free Today at Apple sessions covering photography, music, art, programming, augmented reality, and creative activities for children. Apple’s store page continues to list Today at Apple alongside shopping help and support, but schedules and registration requirements vary. Check Apple’s current session listings rather than relying on old launch announcements.

Apple Kawasaki’s current page lists Genius Bar support and repairs, product setup and support, specialist shopping advice, online shopping consultations, sign-language interpretation services, and pickup for online orders. Service and appointment availability can vary. For repairs, confirm options before visiting; Apple’s Japan repair page explains how to start. For a particular product or configuration, check stock and choose the store during checkout on the Apple Japan online store rather than assuming it will be available in person.

What happened on opening day
Macotakara reported that more than 1,600 people queued for the opening. Contemporary reports also said early visitors could receive a limited Apple Kawasaki tote bag, pin badge, and sticker on a first-come, first-served basis.
