The entry-level 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro fell to $1,399, while the largest listed discount was $400 off a separate 16-inch M4 Max configuration. Since then, Apple has introduced newer M5 MacBook Pro models, so shoppers should verify current prices, seller details, and stock before buying older M4 inventory.
The original deal was documented by MacRumors. Prices below are U.S. prices before sales tax and describe that 2025 promotion.

MacRumors described many of these as solid second-best prices rather than uniformly verified all-time lows. It is more accurate to call them substantial discounts or among the better reported prices than to label every model a record-low deal.

What did the $1,399 model include?
The starting price covered the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD. It was not an M4 Pro or M4 Max model.
That configuration was based on a MacBook Pro launched at $1,599 in the United States. Apple’s original announcement also listed the 14-inch M4 Pro model at $1,999 and the 16-inch MacBook Pro at $2,499. See Apple’s October 2024 announcement for the launch pricing and product details.

The base model makes the most sense for buyers who need macOS, a high-quality display, and more sustained performance than an entry-level laptop typically provides. However, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage may be limiting for large development environments, extensive video libraries, virtual machines, or demanding creative workflows.
When M4 Pro or M4 Max is worth paying for
M4 Pro is the more practical upgrade for software development, music production, photo editing, and moderate video work when sustained multicore performance, memory bandwidth, or additional external-display capability matters.

M4 Max is aimed at workloads that can use substantial GPU resources, such as professional video processing, 3D rendering, simulation, and some local-AI workloads. A $400 saving does not automatically make the $3,599 model good value. If the workload does not use its additional GPU capacity or memory, the cheaper M4 Pro may be the better financial decision.
The M4 family offered Apple silicon options, Liquid Retina XDR displays, unified-memory configurations starting at 16GB on some models, SSD options starting at 512GB on some configurations, professional connectivity, and Apple Intelligence support. Apple’s performance statements should be understood as manufacturer claims based on specified systems and workloads, not universal independent test results. Does an M4 MacBook Pro still make sense?
In 2026, M4 is a previous-generation platform. Apple introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 in October 2025, starting at $1,599, and introduced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max in March 2026. Apple listed starting U.S. prices of $2,199 for the 14-inch M5 Pro and $2,699 for the 16-inch M5 Pro.

An M4 can still be sensible when:
- The discount is substantially larger than the price of an equivalent M5 configuration.
- You want the MacBook Pro display and chassis at a clearance price.
- The selected memory and storage meet your needs.
- You do not need the newest generation’s features, connectivity, or potential resale advantage.
- The listing is new, from a reputable seller, and covered by acceptable return and warranty terms.
Choose M5 when:
- The comparable current model costs only modestly more.
- You expect to keep the laptop for many years.
- Your work involves local AI, video processing, 3D rendering, or large development projects.
- Newer-generation performance, features, or resale value justify the price difference.
There is no verified current price comparison here, so the M4-versus-M5 value decision depends on the live configuration prices when you shop.
Amazon buying checklist
Older M4 inventory may appear as remaining stock, renewed products, or marketplace listings. Amazon pages can also combine multiple configurations under one product page. Before purchasing, confirm:
- Exact chip: M4, M4 Pro, or M4 Max.
- Screen size: 14-inch or 16-inch.
- Memory and SSD capacity.
- Color and model year.
- Condition: new, renewed, or used.
- Seller identity and whether Amazon fulfills the order.
- Delivery date and current stock.
- Return eligibility and the applicable return window.
- Warranty language and Apple service eligibility.
- Final price after shipping and applicable sales tax.
Do not rely on a search-result headline or “starting at” price. Select the exact variant and check the final listing details. The original 2025 report also noted estimated delivery dates, which illustrates why availability should be checked at checkout.

Bottom line
The June 2025 promotion was real, but it combined two different headline figures: $1,399 for the base 14-inch M4 model and $400 off the much more expensive 16-inch M4 Max configuration. It should not be presented as a live August or September 2026 deal without current listing verification.
For a current purchase, buy an M4 only when the exact clearance price is meaningfully below an equivalent M5 model and the configuration meets your needs. Otherwise, the newer M5 generation is the safer long-term comparison.
