Amazon discounted its newly released 2024 Kindle lineup during Black Friday 2024. In the U.S., the basic Kindle fell to $84.99, the 12th-generation Kindle Paperwhite to $129.99, and the Paperwhite Signature Edition to $154.99. These are historical November–December 2024 prices—not live offers for September 2026.
Amazon’s Black Friday Week ran from November 21 through November 29, 2024, followed by Cyber Monday savings through December 2. Amazon said selected devices were discounted by up to 55%, but that headline did not apply equally to every Kindle model. Amazon’s announcement identified the new Kindle and new Kindle Paperwhite among the deals.
Black Friday 2024 Kindle prices
The phrase “new 2024 Kindle” can refer to two different products: the compact basic Kindle released in 2024 and the 2024, 12th-generation Paperwhite. Amazon also discounted their premium and Kids editions.

The prices were reported by deal publications on specific dates and could vary by color, storage, advertising status, inventory, and configuration. One report rounded the basic Kindle price to $85. PCWorld’s November 22 report and The eBook Reader’s deal list provide the contemporary pricing.

Which Kindle was the best value?
For most readers, the standard 2024 Paperwhite was the strongest overall choice at $129.99. Its $45 premium over the basic Kindle bought a larger 7-inch glare-free display, adjustable warm light, waterproofing, and faster page-turning. Contemporary reviews generally treated it as an evolutionary improvement rather than a radical redesign.
The Paperwhite Signature Edition was the best premium value. At $154.99, it cost only $25 more than the standard Paperwhite while adding 32GB of storage, wireless charging, and an auto-adjusting front light. That small sale-price gap made it attractive for readers with large libraries, audiobooks, manga, or a preference for automatic brightness adjustment. TechRadar described the Paperwhite prices as new lows at the time; that claim should be understood as a contemporary, attributed assessment rather than a guarantee about every historical price.
Model-by-model breakdown
2024 basic Kindle: $84.99
The basic Kindle was the lowest-cost option and the smallest device in the group. It offered a 6-inch display, adjustable front light, 16GB of storage, and black or Matcha color options.

It did not offer the Paperwhite’s larger screen, warm light, or waterproof design. Choose it when price, portability, and a simple reading experience matter more than those features. The official product page is useful for checking the exact configuration, availability, and current price.

2024 Kindle Paperwhite: $129.99
The 12th-generation Paperwhite combined a 7-inch glare-free display with adjustable warm light, waterproofing, 16GB of storage, and improved performance over the previous generation. It was the practical middle ground: substantially more comfortable and versatile than the basic Kindle without paying for the Signature Edition’s extras.

At list price, those additions cost $40 more. During the reported Black Friday deal, the difference was only $25. That made the upgrade worthwhile for buyers who would use the extra storage or wireless charging; it was less compelling for someone who simply wanted an e-reader for ordinary novels.

Kids editions: $94.99 and $139.99
The Kids models were bundles rather than merely cheaper versions of the adult devices. The packages included an Amazon Kids+ subscription and a two-year worry-free replacement guarantee, according to contemporary deal coverage. Exact subscription terms and package contents can vary by market, so buyers should verify them on the product page.
The $94.99 Kindle Kids was the smaller, cheaper option. The $139.99 Paperwhite Kids added the Paperwhite’s larger, waterproof reading platform. Choose the Paperwhite Kids when screen size and water resistance justify the extra cost.

Kindle Scribe: $269.99 after a later update
The 16GB Kindle Scribe was initially absent from the first Kindle deal list. The eBook Reader reported its price falling from $339.99 to $269.99 in an update on November 28, 2024.

The Scribe made sense for handwriting, annotation, and large-screen reading—not for buyers seeking the smallest or simplest Kindle. Its discount should therefore be treated as a later addition to the promotion, not as part of the initial November 21 rollout.
What was not discounted initially?
The Kindle Colorsoft was reportedly not on sale when the initial deal list appeared on November 21, 2024. The same report said its availability was several weeks out. That is a dated observation, not proof that it remained excluded throughout every day of the promotion.
It is also inaccurate to imply that every new Kindle received the same discount or that Amazon’s “up to 55% off” claim represented a discount available on all Kindle models.

Older 11th-generation Paperwhite covers were also reported at discounts of approximately 26% to 40%.
Check the generation and model before buying a case. A cover made for the 2021 Paperwhite is not automatically compatible with the 2024 Paperwhite, even if the product names look similar.
Could trade-in savings be combined?
The eBook Reader reported a 2024 Amazon promotion offering an extra 20% off when trading in an eligible older Kindle, plus at least a $5 credit for a broken device. Eligibility, credit values, and promotional terms can change, so this should be treated as a historical offer and verified at checkout rather than assumed.

Buying guide
- Choose the basic Kindle if the lowest price, compact size, and a 6-inch screen are your priorities. Skip it if you need waterproofing or warm light.
- Choose the standard Paperwhite if you want the best balance of screen size, comfort, features, and price.
- Choose the Signature Edition if $25 more is acceptable and you will use 32GB storage, wireless charging, or automatic light adjustment.
- Choose Kindle Kids for a child when the Kids+ bundle and replacement coverage are valuable.
- Choose Paperwhite Kids when a child needs the larger, waterproof Paperwhite format.
- Choose Scribe when writing and note-taking are central requirements and a larger, less pocketable device is acceptable.
Bottom line on the 2024 Black Friday Kindle deals
Amazon did discount its new 2024 Kindle lineup in the U.S. The basic Kindle at $84.99 was the budget winner, while the standard Paperwhite at $129.99 was the best fit for most readers. The Signature Edition was unusually attractive at $154.99 because it narrowed the premium to $25. The Kids and later Scribe deals broadened the promotion, but the Colorsoft was not included in the initial deal list.
All of these figures describe Black Friday 2024. They should not be presented as current September 2026 prices without checking Amazon or another retailer for a new offer.
