Amazon’s 10th Prime Day took place July 16–17, 2024. In the U.S., the two-day sale began at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on July 16 and was open to Prime members. The dates are historical, not an upcoming sale; Amazon announced the event in June 2024. Amazon’s announcement described millions of deals across more than 35 categories, but inventory and offers varied by market and seller.
What Amazon announced
Amazon set Prime Day 2024 for July 16 and 17. The U.S. event started at 12:01 a.m. PDT on July 16; shoppers elsewhere should not assume the same local start time. Amazon said deals would appear across more than 35 categories, with new offers dropping during the event—at times as often as every five minutes during selected periods. Those figures and descriptions were Amazon’s, not a guarantee that every shopper would see the same offers or savings. Amazon’s date and event guide has the original details.
Who could shop—and what membership cost then
Prime membership was required for Prime Day deals. Customers who were eligible could join or start a free trial, subject to Amazon’s terms. In its 2024 announcement, Amazon listed U.S. standard membership at $14.99 per month or $139 per year. It also listed then-current reduced options for eligible students and young adults ($7.49 per month or $69 per year after a six-month trial) and qualifying government-assistance recipients ($6.99 per month). These are 2024 figures, not current prices; membership pricing, eligibility, and trial terms can change. Check Amazon’s membership page and the applicable terms before signing up.
If considering Prime just to access a sale, compare the membership cost with the savings on the specific item you want. A free trial may convert to a paid membership if it is not canceled in time, so note the renewal date and cancellation terms. The value may be different for someone who also uses other Prime benefits, but those benefits should not be counted as savings unless they are useful to you.

Deals, categories, and timing
Amazon promoted offers in electronics, kitchen, home, beauty, apparel, school and dorm supplies, Amazon devices, groceries, entertainment, travel, outdoor, and sporting goods. Its announcement named brands including Sony, KitchenAid, Coach, Clinique, Allbirds, Kiehl’s, Dyson Beauty, Peloton, HP, New Balance, and Amazon Basics. These were examples of participating brands—not a promise that every product from each brand would be discounted, available, or offered at the same price in every country.
Some offers were available before the main event. Amazon scheduled influencer-led deal drops from July 8 through July 15, 2024, and promoted other early offers involving services and grocery delivery. Those promotions are over; their eligibility and availability varied. Amazon also said deals could appear throughout both event days, so an item in a preview was not necessarily available for the full sale.

How invite-only deals worked
For selected products, Prime members could request an invitation from the product page, near the Add to Cart button. Amazon said selected customers would receive an email during Prime Day with instructions for completing a purchase at the special price. Examples in the announcement included Sony wireless headphones and Peloton products. Amazon expected these offers to sell out.

The offer could also be less attractive than a competitor’s price. Treat an invitation as a chance to buy, not as a reserved item or a guaranteed bargain.

Which countries were included?
Amazon said the July event began in 23 markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. India was scheduled to receive Prime Day later in the summer rather than in the July event. For the 2024 event, Amazon recommended using Wish List, cart, or Save for Later to keep track of products; setting deal notifications in the Amazon Shopping app; and using Alexa for product tracking and alerts. Shoppers could also use the Prime Day event page to find offers and request invitations where available. These are Amazon shopping features, not a reason by themselves to buy.

- Compare the actual price. Check price history and compare the exact item with other retailers. A large percentage off a stated list price does not prove it is the lowest recent or available price.
- Match the product precisely. Confirm model number, generation, storage, size, color, and bundle contents. Similar-looking listings can have different specifications.
- Check who is selling it. Review the seller, fulfillment and delivery date, return policy, and warranty. Be cautious with unfamiliar marketplace sellers and listings marked used, renewed, or refurbished.
- Set a target price and budget. Alerts and limited-time offers can create pressure to buy. Decide what you are willing to pay before shopping, and skip an offer that does not meet that threshold.
- Compare the full cost. Consider taxes, shipping, subscriptions, and any conditions attached to a coupon or promotional price.
Prime Day can put many offers in one place, but Amazon’s scale claims and advertised savings do not establish that a particular item is the best value. The sensible comparison is the same model, in comparable condition, with delivery, warranty, and return terms included.
What the announcement means now
Prime Day 2024 has ended. Its July dates, prices, trial offers, and promotions should not be read as a current sale or as a guide to current Prime membership terms. The announcement also does not establish the dates or conditions of a future Prime Day. For a purchase today, check current retailer listings and terms rather than relying on expired 2024 deal pages.
